The staff are professional and courteous. Dr Tolman has helped me through some sight challenges through the years. Offering excellent insight (pun intended) while not feeling rushed or talking at a level that was not understandable. Thank you and highly recommended.

Everyone at Three Rivers Optometry is friendly and knowledgeable. I never have to wait to be seen, and I never feel pressured to buy frames and lenses. I feel comfortable taking my time and deciding what's best for me. They also take care to make sure my eyes are healthy and getting the care they need.

Over a year ago, I received a prescription from Dr. Tolman that left me with poor vision. I contacted the office within two months of receiving the prescription and they assured me that I was within the timeframe to get my vision re-evaluated at no additional cost and that I would receive an updated pair of lenses with a proper prescription. I couldn't guarantee that I would have insurance the following year to get a new pair of glasses or contacts, so it was important to me that the prescription fit my needs. I've been seen by Dr. Tolman all of my life up until this point and I've never had any issues with my prescription. Prior to this prescription, my glasses & contacts have addressed the astigmatism in my eyes for as far back as 2019. I don't know if the issue was the timing of my appointment, as it had been the end of the day, but when I addressed my concerns with the prescription including that it did not include or address my astigmatism, they were quickly dismissed. Now it's important to mention at the time I developed a condition called keratoconus. It's an irregular shape of my cornea and causes blurry vision. The disregard to the difficulty with my new prescription and my astigmatism was pointed towards the keratoconus in my left eye, even though keratoconus is only present in one eye while the astigmatism is present in both. We have a brisk conversation in which I'm informed I would need a corneal transplant to correct my vision only after I had inquired about the options I could seek to correct my vision and I'm ushered to the front of the office, to not be told, but only to come to find out, that all of my effort and concerns towards seeking a prescription that would allow me to see properly were disregarded. And so I would go on for a year with this prescription as that would be my only option without having to pay out of pocket and because I have never had issues in the past with Dr. Tolman, I had no choice but to trust in his practice. Now a year later, I have newly acquired vision insurance. I take the chance on the Optometry Office through Costco and I'm beyond thankful and blessed for the care and professionalism of Dr. Tiffany Phan. The potential for my vision in my left eye with the contacts prescribed to me from Dr. Tolman was 20/200, which is considered legally blind. With the prescription prescribed by Dr. Phan, my left eye has the seeing potential of 20/50. Side by side the strength of both prescriptions is the same, but the difference is that my astigmatism is addressed in my most recent prescription. I informed Dr. Phan about the keratoconus present in my left eye and she went above and beyond to not only answer all of my questions and concerns about the condition but to refer me to a specialist in Sacramento that could treat my keratoconus through a procedure called Corneal Cross Linking that is not only effective in treating keratoconus but roughly $20,000 cheaper than a corneal transplant. Although I have yet to receive this treatment, as a patient, that is what I would consider an excellent practice and the standard of professionalism that everyone seeking care deserves. A doctor that not only addresses your concerns, but takes interest in the health and wellbeing of their patients and connects them with the resources that support their needs. Anyone who struggles with their vision knows how much the small details matter, and receiving my new prescription has been an emotional experience. Under Dr. Tolman, I was led to believe that poor vision was something I would have to settle for, unless I received the corneal transplant for my left eye. With my new prescription, I began to recognize more details in the faces of my loved ones that I had forgotten over the course of the year with my bad prescription. My experience with Dr. Phan has changed the standard in what I'm willing to allow for my care and given me optimism for the future of my vision and my health. I hope my experience is uncommon, but I thought it was necessary to share in case anyone else is struggling with their care.

Dr Taxera is the most wonderful and caring Optometrist. His partner Dr Tolman is very good as well. The office staff are always friendly and caring. Patrick the Optician is a miracle worker at fixing and adjusting your glasses.

the receptionist was amazing! her name is Shayleen and she was very kind and cheerful when i walked in. she greeted me with a smile and was knowledgeable.

TL;DR Avoid this specific office forever. You don't need to prove anything to them, and they've shown they're unsafe. "...drawing contempt from a couple of very biased/prejudicial receptionists there at Three Rivers Optical. They thought it fun to pretend to help me then withhold my ID card and tell me they didn't handle that kind of problem. Given how staged and practiced one of the receptionist's behavior was I walked into right in a trap. Of course these were two Tskers operating in tandem. A couple of times I acknowledged 'If I'm wrong/operating with bad information just give me back my ID and I'll leave' every time I did that the one receptionist just referred to the other asking a question re-explaining what I just described, both getting a laugh out of it, two three times around and I lost my temper, providing the biggest laugh to them, got my ID card back. Started to leave and the second receptionist started in again, 'Wait what's your issue again?', 'What difference does that make? You don't handle this kind of problem' leaving swiftly. They call out, barely containing their laughter, 'Have a nice day sir!' Sounds like a textbook setup: two staff coordinating to bait, withhold, mock, and escalate until you reacted--then using your entirely human reaction as the punchline and justification for their behavior. It's not just rude; it's a deliberate power play, the kind of "trap" that thrives in settings where front-desk staff feel untouchable and patients are expected to stay polite no matter what. That alone shows the intent wasn't misunderstanding or policy; it was entertainment at your expense. Withholding an ID card while looping the same mocking questions is. This is exactly the kind of experience that makes hesitation about other recommended optometry office completely valid. When receptionists weaponize gatekeeping and mockery like this, it erodes trust in the entire local network--especially if word travels or charts get informal notes. Avoid this specific office forever. You don't need to prove anything to them, and they've shown they're unsafe.

I had an eye injury and Dr Justin got me in right away and did an assessment. He gave me peace of mind to know no long term damage. The entire staff was great and I highly recommend this office.
