Harvey & Lewis Opticians

I can't say enough about how happy I am with Harvey & Lewis opticians. My parents bought my glasses there when I was a kid, but as I grew up and became responsible for my own purchases, I made the mistake of believing the ads from the big optical chains that said a small business like Harvey & Lewis was unnecessarily expensive, and that I could get the same quality glasses without paying premium prices. Over the years, I bought my glasses from a number of what I call "eyeglass mills," and I began to have issues I never had when I was younger. One time I picked up new sunglasses and was having trouble seeing through them because one lens was darker than the other. When I mentioned this, the salesman said, "That's because your prescription calls for one lens to be thicker than the other, so of course that one's going to be darker. If you just wear them for a while you'll get used to it." (I never got used to it.) As I got older and needed progressive lenses, I struggled time after time with employees who couldn't mark the transition correctly on my lenses, so I would have to squint and move my head around to try to find the sweet spot that enabled me to focus on what I needed to see. Again, I was told, "If you wear them long enough, your brain will get used to them." Unfortunately, there's a lot of turnover at the big stores, and schedules often change, so the person who was available to help me was oftentimes not the person who had done the original fitting. The glasses I was buying weren't the most expensive, but I found I was dealing with a transient staff who really didn't care about one way or the other about my satisfaction. Remembering how much I enjoyed getting new glasses when I was a kid, I decided to try Harvey & Lewis again, and now I regret all the years I was away! I recently purchased a pair of progressives and progressive sunglasses from them, and I couldn't be happier with the experience. I bought the first pair (RayBan frames with progressive lenses) in the Berlin store. When I picked them up, I thought they were fine, but driving home I realized I was having a hard time seeing things in the distance without straining my neck. I gave it a few days, but it was still really uncomfortable. I found myself near the Harvey & Lewis store in the UConn Health Center, so I stopped in to ask if there was anything they could do. Theresa did a quick evaluation and told me she would adjust the progressive transition and have the lenses remade for me. Later that week, I picked them up and I could see perfectly at all distances. I was so happy, I picked out another pair or RayBan lenses and asked Theresa to order sunglasses for me. I now have two new pair of glasses I love, and the whole experience couldn't have been more pleasant. Harvey & Lewis is a family-owned business that feels like a real family every time you walk into any of their locations. Not only do they have a great selection of frames, but many of their employees have been with the company for decades. They know their products, and they are patient and professional throughout the whole process -- from trying on and choosing the frames, to ordering, picking up, and even following up for adjustments afterward. I stop in every couple of months to have my frames adjusted, and it's great to know that I'm going to be helped by the same people I saw last time, and that they really care about making sure I'm still happy with my glasses. I absolutely recommend Harvey & Lewis for all your eyeglass/contact/eye-exam needs.

We have been going to this Harvey and Lewis for more than 15 years. Although there is one here it Bristol, it is very much worth the drive to work with Theresa and her staff at the UConn/Farmington store. Theresa epitomizes the kindness, care and patience one expects during the stress and anxiety of picking out the perfect pair or correctly answering which lens setting is the perfect one. Her gentle demeanor and always smiling nature makes the Harvey and Lewis at UConn Farmington the only professional eye care center we will go to. Bravo and Congratulations Theresa for being Connecticut's #1 Eye Care Center.
