I recently had cataract surgery at Solinsky Eye Care. My experience was excellent - the staff was efficient and caring. They kept me informed every step of the way and Dr. Alan Solinsky was superb. I would highly recommend them.
I had cataract surgery this past Summer, one eye on July 1 and the other on July 8. I chose Solinsky because of the very positive reviews. Overall, I am glad that my eyesight without glasses is almost 20/20 in both eyes. However, I had a number of negative experiences and so I'm giving feedback in hopes that those who have the power to make improvements will do so.
Firstly, I chose the 'second to the most expensive' option/type of lens/surgery to have. The poster in the office described the result as one that would mean I would not need glasses for distance, mid range, or close (reading a book) use. For this result the poster advertised an estimated cost of $2950 per each eye. It was explained to us that the bill from Hartford Hospital would be additional to this. At this point we have been billed about $14,000 total (all providers involved). The lenses and a piece of Dr. Solinsky's time were not covered by insurance, nor did they count to our max out of pocket. This accounts for $8000. The communication about cost has been very confusing.
I was and am very surprised and frustrated that I do not have 20/20 for close reading as I was led to believe I would. When I asked Dr. Solinksy, who did both my surgeries, about this, he replied in a flip manner "Well, you can always buy readers at CVS".
Less important but concerning issues:
My experience throughout- initial consult, description of options, pre surgery, surgery, and post- was one of being on a 'cataract conveyor belt'. In the surgical 'suite', patients were lined up like sardines while waiting for surgery. Only a curtain separated each patient from the next. I could hear all the personal and medical information being given by patients near me. This is a HIPAA violation. We were shuffled through the 'system' with almost no personal care. One woman next to me was highly anxious, but was shuffled along anyway. One elderly man fell asleep while waiting and the medical staff were struggling to rouse him, including 'fist in the sternum'- "Mr. Jones!" efforts. It was worrisome to witness.
While I was lying on the gurney waiting in the OR for one of my surgeries, the doctor was delayed in the next OR. The medical staff with me at the time chatted away with each other about various 'amusing' subjects, including sexually charged TV shows they liked, and the fact that whenever patients write negative evaluations of their experiences, those evaluations are "posted in the staff lunch room". (WHAT? Can that be real?) Their choice of conversational topics was unprofessional.
As my husband tried to sort out the financial realities post surgery, he made a call to the person in the office who had first explained all this to us, asking for a return call. He never received one.
If I could give them a zero I would. They are completely unprofessional. I will never return.
I had my second cataract operation this past Thursday. The care I received from the staff was outstanding. They were kind and explained the procedure step by step from the prep to the recovery.
I was treated very well by Solinsky eye care. Scheduling the appointment was done quickly and with ease. The office staff are helpful and pleasant. As to care, Dr. Lyndon Lee is a true profession, capable and competent with a friendly manner. He quickly and capably diagnosed and treated an eye condition. I would highly recommend Solinsky Eye care.
How fortunate I feel that Dr. Alan Solinsky was the clinician to perform cataratic surgery on both my eyes.
Not only did I have complete faith with Dr. Solinsky's skill as a surgeon, I found him to be a very kind, thoughtful man.
I couldn't be happier with the results. I feel as if I now have xray vision. I'm making my friends feeling I little uneasy with my new powers!
My experience at the Hartford HealthCare Eye Surgery Center was just as impressive. I found the staff to be exceptionally professional and knowledgeable. This is very important to me so I wasn't disappointed. Singerly, Jill Price
I'm basing my review based on 3 separate visits to the Newington office. The girl that greeted me (front desk) with a smile. She was professional and through when she explained the paperwork that was necessary because I was a new patient. Kelly then did a pre-exam and explained what the doctor would be doing when she came in. Kelly was also very knowledgeable and friendly. Dr. Janek was great. I like her personality! I would say my experience was a 10 out of 10!!! Great job ladies !!
Everybody in this office were extremely upbeat when I went in for my first visit for an ocular migraine. It was a scary event for me but apparently as they explained it's not as uncommon as one would think. I had a second appointment for furthering eye exam and felt very relaxed. I will add that I looked at glasses in the shop even though I cannot buy from the shop and the woman who helped me had a great sense of what looks right. Be assured you will be well taken care of at this business. I will be back next year. Thank you for a super experience.
