Dr Blackburn is excellent for special cases. Yes, you will wait months to get in and he usually runs quite late, but that seems to be mainly bc he takes very careful time and attention for each patient.
That being said, Dr Pok is much easier to get in to see and runs on time. However, and this is a significant however, she doesn't have the people skills of Dr D'Talia who she replaced. She isn't warm or friendly. Much more interested in eyes than patients. Talks to herself more than to you. More than once she has walked out of the room after an exam and I wasn't even sure if we were finished or she was coming back ...?
The glasses specialists are friendly and helpful.
Some of the front desk people are too; some not so much. I stood out in the hallway for 5 min (yep, timed it on my watch) before my last appt bc no one could be bothered to buzz me in. (What's with the need to lock the door anyway??)
Bottom line - if you need a specialist, wait for Dr Blackburn. If you just need an exam and glasses, go somewhere else.
Really liked Dr
Pok, she was very friendly and explained everything to me. When it came to seeing the person about glasses was another store. I waited 45 minutes before getting up and leaving and if I had waited I'm sure I would of been there much longer before even getting to be seen. I understand that picking out new glasses can take some time but that was way to long to sit after already sitting there to be seen by Dr then the exam. They really should have more than one person working that area .
I've been a patient for several years. The providers are amazing and everyone is really nice... however, the office runs in a disorganized manner. It's not uncommon to spend at least 2 hours in the office for a simple annual eye exam. They do not tell you that you need referrals until you arrive for your scheduled appointment, forcing you to reschedule. And food luck getting in for an appointment if you need it in 6 months or less. My kids and I all are patients here. They see infants and toddlers to try to correct vision issues as they're developing, which is great. However, getting my toddler in for a 6 month follow up is a nightmare. Also, my 12 year old had a concussion that wasn't healing. Tried to bring her in for a scheduled appointment and it was canceled, with the nearest reschedule date 2 months out. Truthfully, if it wasn't for the innovative skill of the providers, I'd go somewhere else without looking back.
I have been a devoted patient for MANY years of Dr. Pok. However, the unprofessional behavior and lack of professional standards have made me question if this is where I need to receive best practice eye care. If the staff can't remember simple instructions, how can I trust the whole establishment to safe guard my eye health. I likely won't be going back. Find professional staff that meet your needs elsewhere. I am VERY disappointed.
Delaware Vision Academy is the best place to go for a thorough eye exam and they have an excellent eyeglass selection if needed. There is something for people of all ages and they are catering even more to the kiddos these days. Check out these kitty cat glasses. Lots of young and little man selections as well.
We could write a long positive review about their vision therapy program as well. It's best to check it out yourself if you think vision challenges are not just about vision correction.
My exam is always very thorough! They double check everything but yet are very efficient and you're not sitting there for ages! Dr Pok is fabulous!
The gal in charge of the glasses was amazing? She directed me to styles that totally suited me! Spot on!
I've been coming here for 18 years and have had great experiences with Dr. Blackburn, Flo, Noelle and most of the staff. It seems, lately, however, that the front desk staff are less than polite and helpful. I arrived today at 1:45 to see the optician to pick up my glasses after having been told they would be at lunch from 12:30 - 1:30. The woman at the front desk told me that the optician was still at lunch. Okay, that happens. But when I tried to ask her about an ETA , she was rude and dismissive - as if I were annoying her by showing up to pick up over $1,000 in glasses. I got that same vibe the last time I was here as well, but chalked it up to just her just having a busy day or a bad day. My suggestion would be to have people out front who represent the company well. If I were new here and had to base my experience on my last two visits, I would be looking for another practice. However, I reiterate - the doctors and most of the staff are great, it's just the whole front desk experience.
We always had a wonderful experience here. My Wife had therapy sessions after her AVM brain surgery and specially the therapist and Dr. Blackburn make us so comfortable and made every effort to cure the problem(/they know that somebody came with some hope and they value it) - dated 2012.
Now my whole family visit for normal/ routine eye checkup/ follow up as well.
Kudos to Dr. Blackburn and all his staff. Keep doing the right thing.
