★☆☆☆☆
Very unprofessional staff who is argumentative and does not take accountability. A simple apology would have sufficed. My sister who is disabled and was referred to this clinic for services, by Gulf Coast Independent Living Center back in November. She called and was placed on hold for over 40 min then hung up on. She called back and was placed on hold again for another 15 or so minutes before whoever answered the phone took down her information and promised to call her the following day to schedule an appointment. She has lived without needed glasses for years due to constantly being denied Medicaid for erroneous information attached to her account or for not working. She had constantly applied to for SSI and disability over 8 times and denied 8 times due to one very poor assessment of her abilities / disabilities. At the time we contacted the Lions center she 1.) did not have Medicaid or SSI 2.) needed glasses for years but did not have any primary care physician due to not having insurance and therefore could not obtain a referral to any eye center. At any rate, today 1/24/25 my sister calls for fourth time, only to be told she could not be seen due to the fact that we learned on 1/22/25 that she will receive Medicare in February. My sister clearly upset passed me the phone. I explained to the women with a defensive attitude on the other end, that she did not have it yet and had been waiting a long time to communicate with this office, what she she do now. The response was to wait for the Medicare information and contact a provider through them. Ok great. However, I explained to the women that although I understood, we actually had been trying to communicate with their office for months and it was disappointing that good news of her being eligibility finally came it's Medicare comes at the expense of yet again waiting several more months for an eye exam and glasses. (A call in December went to VM and her information was left after weeks went by with no one calling her back...there being holidays we thought we were being understanding to give the office extra time to return her call) she got defensive and began arguing that this wasn't a large cooperation, that it however answered the phone was in clinic and it was our responsibility to call again if we didn't get a call back, etc. little did she know we had made several calls that went unanswered and did not go to voicemail. I had even called and left a voicemail about scheduling an appointment since I was without insurance. However, I then was able to get insurance through the marketplace and contacting the Lions club for myself was not on my to do list as I no longer was in a position of need. And thankfully my sister isn't either. I would never donate to this organization or recommend it to anyone in need due to the lack of common curtesy and the utter disregard and disrespect over the last several months. I understand something done out of charity is not the same as a paid service. But when someone is actually communicating with you their negative experience and your organizations short comings without needing your service, perhaps you should at least take the time to hear them, empathize and apologize for your error because that is the respectful, empathetic, generous thing to do and it can help you provide better services to others. Instead this women yelled at me, was callous, and defensive. I always thought the Lions Club was a respectable organization that did a lot of good for the community and was a beautiful civic organization. But I had never any reason to deal with them personally. After this experience the whole organization is marred and I am suspicious of just how much of the money that is donated to them is acutely given to the causes they claim and if the people who they claim to help are treated with any sort of dignity and respect at all.
