I have been a patient of Dr Klein for 4 years, & had been more than pleased with the annual vision exams that I received from him. However, his office staff are brutal to patients. I had my annual eye exam last week, & asked that a copy of my report be sent to my primary care doctor so they could request an authorization for me to see a specialist. Dr K agreed to have his staff fax the one page report. I saw my primary care this morning, & they said they had not yet received the report from Dr K, which was from one week ago. I thought, no big deal, I'll just drive over to Dr K's office today, pick up a copy of my report, & drive it back to my doctor's office, so they could continue with the process of putting through my authorization. I arrived at Dr K's just before noon, while the office was still open, & there were no patients in the lobby, waiting area, or the counter. I asked staff for a copy of my report from last week. She went & pulled my file & asked me why; I said my dr didn't receive it & I need a copy to deliver it to them by hand so I can get my authorization. She said I had to fill out a form, wait 3 days for approval, before she makes the copy. I took objection to having to wait 3 days for the 1-page report she had in her hand & was looking at while talking to me; I also took objection to having someone approve my request to get my report that I paid for out of my own pocket. She said that was office policy & that was the only way it would be done. I firmly told her, not loudly nor using objectionable words, that was unacceptable, & there was no reason why she couldn't make a copy of the report for me now as there was nobody else here at that time. She turned red with anger, ran to the back & told someone she needed her out here now. Another woman came out, & she recited the same policy. She said they were too busy to take care of patient records requests on the spot. I looked around the office, slowly taking in the emptiness of it, & said I could see they were extremely busy right now taking care of zero patients. She told me their policy again. In the time that she spent reciting policies to me, she could have just made a copy of the 1-page report, handed it to me & got me out of the office. I ended up leaving the office with my request form but not my report, & sat in my car taking deep breaths to control the anger I felt from how they were treating me, when I saw Dr K walking in from the parking lot to the door. I ran up to him, introduced myself, & asked him if he could help me get a copy of my report. The woman ran out when she saw me talking to him, & told him he had an urgent phone call that he had to take right now. He apologized, went inside, & the woman closed the door behind him; I overheard her telling him I didn't want to follow their policy. While she was back there, I filled out the form & quietly stood there waiting to see what would happen. She came out with the copy of my report & handed it to me. I thanked her & left. I don't want anybody reading this to think of it as a criticism of Dr K. If it were not for the rude office staff, whom you will see many other negative reviews about on Google Business, I would continue to stay his patient. I understand policies are necessary when patients come in during busy times, or the record that needs to be copied is multiple pages long or has been archived somewhere else. I even understand if the requester is not the actual patient who the exam was performed on, then research would have to be done to see if it's appropriate to release the record to that non-patient person, which would require approval. No approval should ever be required, regardless of their policy, when the requester is the actual patient. Because of the unpleasant, rude office staff who are unable to do anything but adhere strictly to a policy that was never intended to be used this way to the detriment of patients, I will not be returning for future vision care.
I am from Michigan and have several eye conditions including retinal telangectasia. I have been going to what I thought was a competent optometrist up north for several years. I also see a retinal specialist the last couple of years I blamed my retinal condition for my waning eyesight and inability to see properly. Glasses, even with correction. I was reading and looking at up close things with one eye open Dr. Klein found the problem was with undiagnosed Astigmatism. I just picked up my glasses today and my god my God I can see
This place sucks. I'm a 66 yrs old disabled man and the glasses they gave me fog up, get so dirty fast ,and have to be cleaned with water. I really don't see any better with them on. I have Medicare insurance and still paid over 350 $. Now I have to wait another 2 yrs before I can get new ones. I complained but got nowhere. I would suggest you find a better place
