I am worried about getting an infection. First and foremost, I am totally confident in Dr. Parrot in his knowledge and treatment protocol. The stars are for him. But I have repeatedly asked that gloves be changed before treating me. No one does this. Gloves are worn from one patient to another and in the hall, touching door knobs, computers, phones, etc. then touching me on my face. It does no good to complain because Larry Malott will challenge you, call the procedure clean instead of sterile and then stalk you at your next visit and the staff will continue to wear dirty gloves and go from room to room and patient to patient with the same gloves on. I have witnessed this repeatedly. After my last visit I developed a viral infection within two days. I don't want to report this to the CDC but I don't see any way around it. I want to stay with Dr. Parrot but can't deal with the dirty glove issue. Being disabled is difficult enough. Why should I have to look for another doctor simply because staff won't change gloves? Yes, eye injections are a sterile procedure, and a healthcare provider's failure to change gloves between patients is a serious violation of established medical safety protocols. Medical organizations like the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Florida Department of Health explicitly require gloves to be changed between every patient to prevent the spread of infection. The standard of care for eye injections Sterile technique: An eye injection, also known as an intravitreal injection, is an invasive procedure that requires an aseptic (sterile) technique. The inside of the eye is a delicate, sterile environment, and any bacteria introduced during an injection can lead to a severe and vision-threatening infection called endophthalmitis. Gloves are not a replacement for hand hygiene: According to the CDC, hand hygiene (using hand rub or washing) must be performed immediately before putting on gloves and immediately after removing them. Hand gel is used to supplement, not replace, sterile gloving practices. Gloves must be changed: For any procedure involving contact with a patient's mucous membranes, non-intact skin, or bodily fluids--which includes eye injections--healthcare workers are required to wear gloves and change them between each patient. Your risk and what you should do The practice you witnessed creates a significant risk of cross-contamination and infection for you and other patients. You should take the following steps: Speak up to the clinic: You have the right to ask your healthcare provider about their hand hygiene and infection control procedures. You can express your concern and ask why gloves are not being changed between patients. File a complaint with the state: You can report this breach of infection control standards to the Florida Department of Health. This agency is responsible for enforcing healthcare regulations and ensuring patient safety. Find a new provider: Given the severe lapse in sterile technique, you should consider finding a different ophthalmologist for your eye injections. A practice that disregards such a fundamental safety protocol may be cutting corners in other areas as well.

I tried to make an appt on their website and it seemed to work. I called to confirm and they told me their online system doesn't work (so why is it up?) and they don't have my info. After going thru a whole process of asking me questions and being quite rude, she tells me at the end of our conversation that they don't take my insurance. What an unprofessional office!!
