Horrible experience with Dr. Ashmore. I agree with Juana review... the rest of the staff and office was very nice and respectful and helpful. Dr. Ashmore was cold, rude, unhelpful, and disrespectful. She literally told me she couldn't predict the future when I asked her about my retinal disease and what it meant for me going forward. I left the office in tears and complete hysterics. She is the worse of the worst and I would not reccomend her to anyone ever.
Dr. Farber is an exceptionally professional and compassionate doctor. Even though we've now moved to Australia, my mom still remembers him with so much gratitude. He treated her eyes with such great care and kindness -- truly going above and beyond. We wish there were more specialists like him, and we really hope my mom can find someone here as wonderful as Dr. Farber!
This must be the friendliest, most professional, caring physician office I have ever been to. I'm a registered nurse and had to bring my teenager here. They were absolutely wonderful! Dr. Farber 10/10 They must be great to their staff, because everyone seems so happy and such a diverse team! I love it
Dr. Brooks is nice and an expert in his field. His assistants are kind and very professional, especially, Aries and Neshla. Carlos, front desk, also is helpful and knowledgeable. In all, we are pleased with their service.
UPDATE: The CEO called my mom-today 03/03/2025 to notify her that she has been discharged from their practice.
So incredibly disappointed with the business office and CEO of Southern Vitreoretinal Associates. My mother had an appointment in February for her 8 week injection. The business office knew since 01/01/2025 that the funding (to help pay for my mother injections) was not available. The Business office called the day before her procedure (to save her eye sight) to tell my mom that she could either pay $450 for her injection or cancel her appointment. We figured out a way for my mom to have her shot because if she doesn't get the shot in her eye she will go blind. We get into the office the next day. We share our experience with Dr. Newell and he brings in Peter, the CEO of the practice. Peter listens to our concerns and assures me that this issue will be taken care of and their office will find alternative funding to help my mom. My mother signs funding paperwork that was given to her by the clinical staff. Two weeks go by and my mother calls the business office to check on her funding (as she was told to do by the staff that had her complete the paperwork). She is told by Carla Trammel that the paperwork was not submitted. When my mom asks why, she is told its because their office is short staffed. Ms. Trammel, then tells my mom that she can call the funding company herself to secure the funding. My mother tries this and is stopped at step #1 because her doctor's office is supposed to supply the funding company with this requested information. So TODAY I call the business office to find out what is going on and I get to speak with Carla. I questioned their level of empathy and caring because they asked an elderly person-that cannot see very well to complete paperwork that she cannot see nor does she have all of the relevant information to submit the paperwork. I have to explain to Carla that NO ONE IN THEIR OFFICE told us that we would be responsible for taking care of this funding. How can a medical providers office treat patient for blindness and conduct their facilities like this? Carla then has the audacity to ask me why I don't handle my mother's affairs better. I LOST IT and I hung up on Carla Trammel. I will be making an in person visit to their practice and their business office on Monday, so we can try and get to the bottom of why they are treating an elderly patient, who is losing their eyesight in such a deplorable manner. Carla Trammel's customer service leaves something to be desired. Too bad this is the only practice in town that does this kind of work. Dr. Newell is awesome. But he needs a new business office manager.
Thoroughly enjoyed my experience here. Staff were pleasant and Dr Brooks is phenomenal! Very thankful for my referral here.
My wait time was probably 20 mins.
Dr. Charles Newell was HORRIBLE! I visited him yesterday for the second time during my lunch time, it was three months from the first visit. Besides the time I spent on the exam, I waiting only for him over half hour. Until I asked the staff my time was running out, they let me to see him. I said it took me such long time to see you every time. He said that's just half hour, I always took one more or two hours to see other doctors. I said that's your problem. Then he said: Nobody confront with me, you are the first one, I don't want to treat you, YOU ARE DISMISSED. I was shucked, it sounded he didn't let me waiting for two hours in stand of half hour was his mercy! I followed his instruction from the first visit to wait for three months till this appointment yesterday to solve my eye's issue, he dismissed me, for not even my fault. However, I am glad he is just a doctor, not a leader of a country, otherwise he would certainly be a dictator.
It is scary to have vision problems that impact EVERY aspect of daily life, and I have experienced several retinal detachments that have put me on a horrible roller coaster of vision upheavals. Dr. Newell is outstanding and has done everything possible to help me through this nightmare. He took the time to listen to my concerns and treated me as a person. I wasn't just a number to him - he genuinely explored every possibility to improve my vision. He cared, took the time to explain my options, and performed extremely high risk surgeries with talent and skill. We are blessed to have someone of his caliber in Tallahassee! If he didn't know the answer, he knew who to call and where to send me to get the best possible care. Thank you, Dr. Newell and staff, for helping me along this difficult journey! I cannot sing your praises loudly enough!
