I had a bad taste from the beginning when i took off work to head to her first apt and got a call on my way that doctor Goei was not in the office today... like what???? How can you call a person the day of let alone to hour of to cancel there apt. when trying to reschedule it was horrible however I am very grateful to her for fixing my child's eyes. She did a wonderful job on the surgery to remove cataracts. Bed side manners were never something i saw to be her strong suit, but lately it has gotten so bad. If she is out of the office almost no one can help you with anything, when going in for an apt you will wait at least 2 hours to be seen. The last 4 times we went there we stayed 4 hours only 1 of which the doctor actually saw my daughter and 2 hours waiting to be seen and 1 hour waiting to be dilated. i am so disappointed because i wanted my experience to be great because i will be coming and going from here for the foreseeable future and i am just not happy. i Was told in the beginning she would have the same glasses until 2 years old only to be told actually its every 3-6 months and her prescription is definitely not cheap. I will do whatever it takes for my daughter to be able to see properly so i will continue to go since she is the one that did her surgery but i am not impressed. Scheduling is also a nightmare on 2-4 occasions i was told i canceled or did not make an appointment so they had to "squeeze me in" which is crazy because i never canceled any appointments and call to verify apts 90% of the time. Over all my daughters care has been fine and i haven't thought that she gave ill advice on her well being however everything combined is just not a good experience.
I would not say I like writing these reviews, but I think they are helpful, especially when choosing a doctor for your child. My son has seen Dr. Goei for about two years now, so I believe we can write a fair review.
First, Dr. Goei does not have much patience for children, which I find strange for a "pediatric" ophthalmologist. She performed strabismus surgery on our son when he was two, with no complications; everything seemed fine. But after the surgery, he had to see her several times for post opt check-ups within that year. He was uncomfortable and wasn't the best at cooperating, but he's two. She always seemed frustrated with him. But she was supposedly one of the best, so we stuck it out.
Then, about a month ago, she performed a second strabismus surgery, we were informed that we might need a second one as he grows and his eyes and eye muscles change, so it was not a surprise. After the surgery, she spoke with us and said the needle went too far and punctured his retina. So less than a week after this second strabismus surgery, he had to go under anesthesia again for a retina specialist to laser around the puncture. We got back to the retina specialist in weeks to ensure no further damage was caused.
We asked Dr. Goei about the cost of this second surgery because we had already paid over $400 before they would perform the strabismus surgery. She said "insurance should cover it," but she would speak to her office manager, who handles insurance. A month later, we have gotten an almost $400 bill from the retina specialist and another statement from anesthesia. We are also worried that he will need additional surgeries in the future.
I would not recommend her. Try someone else.
Update as of 2024: We have yet to receive any compensation from her office, and she has not reached out to check on our son. There was a noticeable lack of apology or accountability on her part, as if these issues are simply a part of her practice. As a parent, it's disheartening to see such indifference.
Since my original review, my son has had to visit a retina specialist annually, resulting in significant out-of-pocket costs, even with insurance.
BEWARE OF DR. GOEI
This is a very caring and patient oriented group of staff. They're a true definition of team members.
Each appointment we arrived about 15 minutes early, checked in, and before we could get comfortable in the waiting room we were called to the back. Total time at the office, never ever over 45 minutes to ONE hour. We always waited for any early morning appointment and had plenty of time after seeing Dr. Goei to do some shopping before lunch at 11am!
We could not find a more attentive doctor. Her patience with her patients gives me hope for the future of our upcoming physicians. Her thoroughness in the exam removes the need for extra appointments in which other doctors seem to thrive.
I pray my mother and my grandchildren will never have to see another doctor for their eyes.
I put 1star just so I could write a review
If I could put - 5 stars I would!
The reason I feel this way is because of the way my son who has special needs (down syndrome) was told he had a slight but not enough to matter eye sight problem.
We went to Another ophthalmologist and was given glasses that he refuses to take off. he started to read he started to love books:)
I have spoken to many many many other special-needs parents and have learned that their children have been told the same. I highly recommend if your child has special needs to seek a different ophthalmologist Dr. Goei does not believe that their site matters enough to do anything about it.
Just sad:(
*** Update - never received a real answer on what happened from the billing department but in all fairness to Dr. Goei she is great and I feel I should move that to the top of my review. Just watch the billing department like a hawk.
- Goei gets 5 stars
- billing department gets zero stars

My daughter had a different guarantor for her account that was incorrect. I noticed it at the beginning of the summer (2019) when they sent me a visit cancellation notice to my address with a different name. I corrected it with their office and addressed that I should be the guarantor on her account. So they fixed it, but no one informed me of a medical bill from a previous visit that wasn't fully covered by insurance when the other guarantor was on the account. I had never received a bill, statement, or phone call concerning such matters. Even after being changed to the guarantor I did not receive a bill or any records. Today, at the end of summer, I received a bill from a collection agency for a bill I was never informed about. I have always paid my bills on time and have excellent credit and now my credit is in jeopardy over a small bill I wasn't even aware existed. I hope this can be resolved because Dr. Goei has done a great job with my daughter outside of this circumstance. I am not sure if this is an Augusta University, or Goei staff issue but unfortunately it is all lumped together at the moment and I have to give one star. I hope this can be resolved on Monday when I can speak to someone.
A professional, very talented doctor! A truly rewarding experience! Great communication with everyone in the ophthalmology office and the hospital where I had a surgery on both eyes at once. Everyone, from the very beginning to the end, was so very helpful and positive! Thank you Dr. Goei for helping my eyes see straight again. Bye bye heavy prisms, bye, bye glasses... I feel liberated and I feel elated.
Dr Goei demonstrated care and concern for me every time I saw her. She inspired confidence and demonstrated competency. I had surgery in May 2017 and was very satisfied with the care I received.
Loved her! She did cataracts surgery on my special needs daughter! Compassionate! And showed us exactly what she was doing for our girl.
