I have been going to Dr Davidson for years. His staff has always been pleasant and helpful. Dr Davidson has always taken time with me, has listened to me, and tries to dig into a complex situation when he needs to. At my last appointment, he went with a gut feeling he had, even though much of my initial exam went well, and found the problem. Thank you Dr Davidson!
Dr. Davidson was the only ophthalmologist in Statesboro that was immediately available, all the others were a 4-5 week wait and I immediately understood why. I needed some forms completed by the FAA and needed them back quickly.
The office ladies were unbelievably friendly and I feel very empathetic that they have to work with Dr. Davidson.
The office displays signs every 5 feet or so, "Keep your mask on, if you feel the need to take it off, go outside!" Which I understand especially in 2020 but it's a little much in 2023.
His assistant took my paper work, and secured a mask using tape under my glasses. After a long wait, Dr. Davidson came in for my eye exam.
The first thing he said was, "Please keep your feet on the chair! I move around a lot and don't want to trip over your feet!"
He started the eye exam and audibly "huffed" and said, "you need to fix your mask! Your glasses are fogging up!"
my face was sweaty because it was very hot in the examination room and the tape was lose on my mask. I attempted to re tape it, which lasted a few minute but of course it came lose again and fogged my glasses. He was visibly annoyed and raised his voice asking me to "fix it!" Every time it came loose, almost insinuating I was sweating on purpose or somehow it was my fault.
When it was time for the eye pressure test, he still uses the same antiquated equipment from the 1970s. I accidentally flinch and said, "I'm sorry, it just appears like it's going into my eye." He said, "You will not feel it! Your eye is numb!"
When I accidentally flinched a second time, he yelled for his assistant to come in and said, "He can't hold his head still! Hold him in place!"
I honestly started to believe I was on a hidden camera show. I have heard about curt doctors with god complexes but I had never experienced it.
After my exam, I went to check out and the receptionist made a copy of the forms that I brought in. He told her, "no, do not give him a copy. She even said, "he brought the forms in."
He said, "he can pick them up after we send them to the aviation doctor.
I should have simply demanded that he return the forms that I brought because they were my property but I was speechless. After they were sent, I found out that he had said, "patient was extremely nervous during the eye examination," (I guess he moonlights as a psychiatrist too?)
No where on the forms, did it ask any details about the patient's behavior, he literally had to write the judgmental notes in the margin.
The following day, I went to My Eye Dr. and had a great experience. 40 minutes later, the forms were completed, sent and I even received a copy! The test results were almost identical, but the optometrist at My. Eye doctor didn't randomly include behavior observations in the margins of the form. When I told him what had happened, he laughed and said, "I don't even know where he could have wrote that on this form."
The equipment they used was up to date and I wasn't flinching (or nervous as Dr. Davidson shared on my form without being prompted) with the eye pressure test.
They were very down to earth and I would highly recommend My. Eye Dr. if you must have an Ophthalmologist, wait for one that is several weeks out. The next day service isn't worth it for Dr. Davidson.
It honestly is flabbergasting that a doctor would be that rude and then afterwards, go out of their way, to make his patient/ customer look bad.
I have been going to Dr. Davidson for over 25 years. He is thorough, he takes time with me, and he is interested in the total patient. He takes a personal interest in patients and goes above and beyond in being of service.
