I was very nervous on getting lasik but as soon as I walked in the staff made me feel better. Dr Burger and his team were the best from start to finish. Procedure was fast and now I'm able to have freedom without my glasses and contacts. I now have 20/20 vision so I highly recommend coming here for lasik. Thank you Dr Burger and staff!!!

I was looking at lasik for a while and had a few price ranges in the Peoria area when I stumbled upon the groupon for Lasik Specialists LLC. The ranges around town were on the low end of $3,750 to over $5,000! The groupon special was for $1,999 which is a heck of a deal so I bought it. Dr Burger has several offices in several states so your appointment will likely be a few weeks out. Scheduling was very easy, I called early March and had an appointment for the last week of March. When you get to the building, it's in the upper level of the US Bank building. I got there about 20 minutes early and was met by the receptionist who was very nice and we had a great chat! She scanned my groupon and informed me that they offer medicated drops for an extra $110 that has all 3 medications in one drop which to me was worth it. They were also upfront before I made the appointment that based on which laser is used, there may be a pricing disparity. With the drops and the custom laser for my astigmatism, it was about an extra $600 which is still 100% worth it! Still more than $1,000 savings compared to other clinics!! Your initial appointment will be similar to a typical optometrist appointment with the exception of an astigmatism mapper and the glaucoma test will be a device pushed against your eye with numbing drops; it's much more comfortable than the dreaded puff machine! After this, Dr Burger will get your prescription and describe what will happen in a few hours. My corneas are nice and thick which is required for lasik, the alternative is PRK which some people may need instead. After that, they gave me a time to come back. When I came back, the first group had finished up and my group had 2 people in it. We watched a video describing the process, how to use the drops, and what to expect afterwards. When I went in for the process, the first step is the numbing drop which isn't that bad - it's not like the yellow numbing drops that ophthalmologists use for their glaucoma test. It was interesting having the microkeratome done, there was a bit of a suction feeling then a slight sting and that was it! (Please, please, please don't get hung up on the microkeratome vs laser method!) The next part was the actual lasik part of getting your eyes corrected. The only part that made me a little anxious was the part where your vision goes black, this was because I couldn't tell if my eye was looking in the right spot or not! After that, your corneal flap will go back in place and Dr Burger will examine you again to make sure it's in the right place. My right eye flap kept moving because my eye lid kept hitting hit, this was easily fixed with a temporary contact that came out the following day. The worst part of the whole procedure was the little sponge used to make sure everything is in place. After the procedure, they recommend wearing these pseudo safety glasses for the rest of the day and to take a nap when you get home, also to wear the glasses when you sleep for the next week. Also take your drops as prescribed for the following week! At my follow up appointment, my vision was significantly better than the date before and continues to improve every few hours! I can't recommend getting lasik with Dr Burger enough! Some of the best money I've ever spent! If you're thinking about doing it and you're on the fence, just do it! You won't regret it!
