While everyone in here was lovely and attentive - I have to agree with the other reviews here regarding the price and the confusion around the optional(?) retinal scan. I saw the reviews prior to coming and wanted to avoid having a particularly high out of pocket cost. I called ahead, asked for the price, and asked if I could opt out of the retinal scan and lower the price. They confirmed over the phone that was no problem.
I went in filled out my forms, and again requested to opt out of the retinal scan and declined consent to dilate my eyes. All was understood by the team checking me in.
When I went back, the doctor went to do the retinal scan, and the team that checked me in mentioned that I opted out. The doctor said it was medically necessary and moved forward without any option for me. I was then charged the full price including the scan.
If the policy and price requires the retinal scan, that is completely fine. However, the team needs to be upfront, clear, and consistent in this messaging to avoid confusion when I validated multiple times beforehand that it was not required. I completely respect policies, and had I known I would be required to get this scan + pay the higher price, I would have gone somewhere else.
Noted for the future!
I purchased frames and lenses at this location and really enjoyed my experience. Cassie was very helpful and immediately gave me some suggestions for frames. She made the process so much easier and I was in and out happily satisfied with the frames I bought. Ask for Cassie--she's great!
Wish zero stars was an option. Really terrible experience at this location. After checking in, I was taken back to the eye photography room by the assistant / technician. His attitude was immediately dismissive, and unprofessional. His instructions were delivered rudely and with an extremely condescending tone. I was having trouble keeping my eye open for the pressure test (which is something that I have historically had trouble with during eye exams; however, have been able to do with a little additional time and patience). He quickly (less than 2 minutes elapsed) became obviously annoyed, impatient, and aggressive in his mannerisms. He at one point attempted to touch / hold open my eye lid with his un-gloved hand. It was an extremely uncomfortable situation especially given the fact that he was a heavy-set male that was standing over me while I was seated. I have never felt more uncomfortable in a "medical" setting and elected to end the appointment without seeing the doctor. Would HIGHLY suggest looking into alternative providers,
The eye exam was competent but I was disappointed by a charge that felt skeevy. I went for an eye exam (covered by my insurance, confirmed in network). They took a retinal photo that cost 4x my copay. They said it was part of their standard eye exam (so it's automatically part of an eye exam booking), but didn't tell me that it would be an extra charge or that even though it was part of THEIR standard eye exam, it's not generally covered by insurance. It is a good medical thing to do, but I wish they would've said something upfront so I could have decided for myself. It really changed what I expected to pay for the exam.
It was quite the mystical journey that I experienced from the moment that I stepped in, the guide to the starship enterprise was named Alex. I am left with so much wonder about a man who can make an eye appointment feel like a magic show. Thank you Alex for your hospitality. You made eye appointments fun again!!
I have never written a poor review in my LIFE and yet, I can literally feel my blood boiling over this situation and feel it necessary to write this out. I went in for an appointment in SEPTEMBER, purchased new glasses, and was told I would be notified once they were ready for pickup. I never received the notification. I called twice to check in and was told both times that they were not ready yet. Finally, on October 20th, nearly a month after my appointment, I called again, only to be told that someone else picked up my glasses and they have no idea where they are. I get it. Mistakes happen and I definitely don't want to blame the staff, especially when they are as kind as they are. HOWEVER. I'm still receiving the runaround. No one can give me an ETA for when my glasses will be ready for pickup. At this point, I'm ready to file a complaint and ask for a refund. Truly so disappointing.
My father hadn't had an eye exam in YEARS, and I was nervous letting him go to his exam alone because he's elderly, but not only did the staff take care of him but they called me with updates, made sure to explain everything not only to my father but to me as well, they even made sure to call me when he was done so I he wouldn't be waiting to leave. Amazing experience, will definitely refer others!
This was my first time visiting/shopping at Big City Optical. I was assisted by Cassie Vega and I must say, Cassie was so kind, helpful and knowledgeable. She showed me which frames were covered by my insurance and also helped me pick out several frames that fit my eye and face shape. Highly recommend coming here, the ambiance is very welcoming and don't forget to take a look at their wall of pets! He sure to ask for Cassie, she'll be able to assist you with anything you need.
