Dr Kaufman is by far one of the best doctors ever , my daughter and I are so grateful to have had him treat my child he was very professional great w kids caring compassionate, & dedicated. His front desk receptionist Julie was also amazing sweet and compassionate , thank you both so much for your professionalism and you're amazing service!

Dr Kaufman is an excellent clinician, with years of experience, on the staff at several top hospitals, and most importantly, he is personally committed to his patients. I understand how difficult it is with "little kids" who are scared, and don't want to be in a doctor's office. His office staff are kind and caring, and help the families throughout the appointment. Dr. Kaufman seemed to be fine the first time we went to him regarding our daughter. My parents are in the medical field, so I understand that skill sometimes need to come before bedside manner. That said, I was floored by how incredibly rude this man was. I made an appointment to follow up and schedule my daughter for surgery. When I arrived and attempted to check in, the receptionist said "Next time you are gonna be late, make sure you call". Her tone was demeaning and accusatory. I pulled out my phone to show her my appointment time and realized I was wrong and mis read the time. I felt so stupid, I apologized and offered to come back at their convenience. She was dismissive, but, let me stay. We go in to the room to see Dr. and he walks in, zero eye contact.. sits down, looks at my daughter's chart. I immediately try to tell him how sorry I was and he totally cut me off and did the exam on my daughter with zero eye contact with me while explaining her case and his rec commendation. I could see if he was really busy, behind or whatever.. but the office was empty! I have read on many reviews about how good he is.. I just don't trust anyone who treats their patients or customers that way.. he is the last person I would trust with my child's vision. It's too bad too, his office is cool.

Dr.Kaufman is one of the best known ophthalmologist in the Chicago land. I've gone to Dr. Kaufman since I was a 2 years old & that was 25 years ago. Now I take my children to Dr. Kaufman and I truly don't trust anyone else. He's honesty, helpful, & addresses my concerns.

I'm actually really shocked by all of these bad reviews. My wife and I have a 13 week old daughter and we recently noticed that one of her pupils is typically larger than the other. After seeing our pediatrician, she really urged us to see a pediatric ophthalmologist ASAP to rule out the possibility of a tumor causing the issue. We called around to a few referrals and Dr Kaufman's office was the only one that could get us in quickly but after reading some of these reviews, we were a little nervous about the appointment. With that being said, this was an overwhelmingly positive experience! First, the staff was super friendly when scheduling. Then, when we arrived for the appointment, I was pleasantly surprised to see that they had parking so that made things much easier. The office staff was quick and efficient as we were seen within 5 minutes of checking in. Dr Kaufman was super kind to our daughter. He was soft spoken and gentile with her and he was thorough when explaining the various aspects of the exam to us. After dialating her eyes, we had to go back to the waiting room for about 30 minutes but we were promptly called back in for the remainder of the exam (so, no extra waiting around as if we had been forgotten). Seeing that our daughter is only 13 weeks old, she has limited patience and started to get fussy. Dr Kaufman was sympathetic and quickly completed his exam and reassured us that there's nothing wrong with her. He asked us to come back in 3 months for a follow-up and we'll happily be there. Overall, Dr Kaufman was very kind and gentile with our infant daughter and we'd be happy to see him again.

Dr. Kaufman was highly unprofessional when treating my sister. Not only did he misdiagnose her, he also dismissed her concerns and made it clear that he questioned her mental state. Thankfully, she eventually found a different physician who was competent, took her concerns seriously, and successfully treated her binocular vision dysfunction. A while after my sister was successfully treated, Dr. Kaufman's office eventually called her back. She relayed to Dr. Kaufman that she had already found treatment elsewhere. When she encouraged him to improve his bedside manner and be more mindful of his patients, he hung up on her. I implore anyone who has considered seeking treatment from Dr. Kaufman to look elsewhere. Please save yourself from wasting time and money. Most importantly, spare yourself the blatant disrespect you will receive from him and his team.

I am over-satisfied with the services both Dr. Kaufman and his staff (especially July) provided us. They both were very kind and informative. I have not met with any other medical professional as July, who has put tremendous time and effort to support us getting the right referral for my daughter's surgery. She made numerous calls to keep me posted. Thanks a billion.

Don't judge by negative reviews. Have patience when you come here!! Dr. Kaufman is wonderful! He caught my 1yr old daughters tumor in her right eye right away. Within 10 days of seeing him she had surgery and had the tumor taken out, that was 4 years ago. If he didn't catch it when he did, God knows what would of happened! He is a very good dr. Not much of a sense of humor but he is wonderful and patient with kids and parents. I do have to agree the staff is unfriendly but I'm sure they deal with a lot.
