After a routine eye exam with my optometrist, it was determined that I had a partial retina detachment and was immediately referred to Illinois Retina Associates. I met with Dr. Syeda who, after a thorough eye exam, scheduled my emergency surgery that day. Although Dr. Syeda did not perform the surgery, she explained in detail what her colleague, Dr. Fard, was going to do. I truly believe that because of Dr. Syeda's calm, yet professional and sincere, explanation of the surgery and its urgency, I was not as nervous going into surgery.

Dr. Sarah Syeda was born in Ireland and received a richly diverse international education. She spent her formative years attending an international school in Saudi Arabia before relocating to England for high school. From there, she went on to pursue her medical education at the University of Glasgow in Scotland. After earning her medical degree, she completed two years of clinical training as a Foundation House Officer with the National Health Service (NHS) in Scotland. Dr. Syeda went on to complete her ophthalmology residency at the Kresge Eye Institute in Michigan and completed her vitreoretinal surgery fellowship at the renowned Illinois Retina Associates and chose to join the practice following her training.
