My first experience at Wilmer Eye in Bethesda- I loved Dr. Xu, very sweet and knowledgable. The front desk receptionists were 50/50, I waited longer than I needed to especially since there was no line. There was a young, curly haired, possibly Hispanic receptionist that completely ignored me. All in all, loved my Dr., the customer service people could use some retraining

Overbooking is their downfall. Twice now I have taken massive blocks of time on appointments. They want to maximize billing. I get that. They see patients for an initial visit, then you wait, then the doctor sees you, then you wait, then the doctor sees you a third time. But EVERY patient is having to do this. In my case, as an example, my child's appointment was for 1:30pm and it wrapped up at 4pm (2.5 hrs). My other personal appointment (at another location, still JH Wilmer) ran similarly long. OTHER EYE DOCTORS DO NOT DO THIS. I had an eye exam at another doc that was sequential, not broken into 3, and that lasted 45 minutes. I stayed so long I had to cancel an oncology appointment which I'm still salty about. I find the medical care to be excellent. Just know that you will be there longer than is reasonable.

I had an appointment and arrived 15 minutes early to sit there for 45 minutes, and then made a complaint. I am blind in one eye and have Nystagmus in my good eye. The doctor obviously was upset and rushed me through asking me 1 or 2 which my eyes were shaking, I couldn't see either, she was going too fast to push me out the door. I will never go back there again! I loved my previous eye doctor, Dr. Gire. She was great. The doctor I saw walked in late after I had been sitting there for 10 minutes. The office staff is rude. Charged me $70, which I asked what it was for, and the young man couldn't even tell me what it was for. I would give a "0" if I could! I am a teacher for the blind and visually impaired, and would never recommend any of my students ever go here!!!!

Dr. Emerson Que performed my cataract surgery (rt eye). He is a top notch, skilled surgeon who is also thoughtful and has an excellent bed side manner. I was very nervous about this entire process and having significant amount of cataract in my rt eye, my vision was significantly compromised in the past several month. Dr. Que is a blessing in my vision healing journey, and I am grateful for his professionalism and respect for his patients' livelihood.

I have had glaucoma and many surgerirs to try to slow down the process of getting worse.3 years ago I spent $1200 getting new glasses. the glasses the optomotrist had made for me were awful.i had no clear vision w the glasses they made. I recently saw the glaucoma specialist who was not the kind doctor who I knew years ago. I dont know how else to say this she wasnt helpful at all. I font drive so getting there and back cost me $50. I am extremely disatisfied with the exam. Dr Harry Quincy wouldnt keep the opthomologist that saw me. A true waste of my time and money! Not up to Wilmer eye institute standards!

I was recommended this eye institute, sadly i was highly disappointed. I was given a same day appt for an eye injury that required an ophthalmology evaluation (broken glass eye injury). Unfortunately, upon my arrival I was told by the front desk staff that their office policy is to be seen by an optometrist first, and I would only be allowed to see an ophthalmologist if the optometrist recommended the referral. However, I wouldn't be able to see both providers on the same day. I told her my insurance did not require a referral, but she repeated it was office policy to be seen by the optometrist first. I was not comfortable being charged for an optometrist visit when my condition clearly required an ophthalmologist so I sat in the waiting room for just a few minutes, made one phone call to another practice, and was immediately able to book an ophthalmologist appointment for the same day--without needing to see an optometrist first- which proves the extra step required wasn't about medical necessity; but about generating unnecessary charges. Forcing patients to go through an unnecessary step just to get a referral felt like a billing tactic rather than patient care. Also front desk staff did not have good customer service skills. Save yourself the very expensive parking fee.

Dr Chen was great , knowledgeable and patient . She answered all of my Mom's questions. The front desk for the most part tries to be helpful although I think that that part of the office could be a little more welcoming. We were at the Bethesda office on Thursday Dec 12 /24 at 2h40pm .One particular check-in front desk personel ( a black lady perhaps mid-forties ) really tended to give the type of service you would expect from a government office where the expectation is that you need the government's services . She was just simply unwelcoming. She should realize that private practices thrive on great costumer service. Front desk personal are the first and lasting impressions on an office . They shouldn't undercut the hard work that the doctor are doing behind the scene by exhibiting an unwelcoming demeanor.

I had cataract surgery with Dr. Nakul Shekhawat on both of my eyes. As a 40-year-old active person with cataracts, thinking that I was never going to see properly again was traumatic to me; it was affecting not only my quality of life but my work. Thanks to Dr. Shekhawat, I not only regained my 20/20 vision, I no longer need corrective lenses. I haven't seen this well without corrective lenses since I was probably 15. Dr. Shekhawat brought my vision back, and I couldn't be thankful enough.
