Ellicott City Total Eye Care

Yesterday was my first experience with total eye care in Ellicott city. From the front desk to the technicians to the doctor to the lady that helped fit me with glasses, I have not experienced Such great customer service and professional courtesy in a long time. It's a lovely business. I thought I had a great exam and was very pleased with the entire experience.

Dr. Baran and her staff are exceptionally great, very professional and so friendly. The office atmosphere is very comfortable. The doctor's instruction while she makes an eye exam is very simple and great to follow, she is fantastic doctor. I am so glad and fortunate to have her as my doctor.

Recently, I completed an appointment for my son and he was a new patient. The doctor Jennifer Duan was very patient, trying to diagnose my son as much fully as possible for his eyes. Eventhough my 8 year old son was not very cooperative, the doctor did her best and evaluated him, and provided results to the best of her ability. She recommended appropriate next steps. Truly appreciate her medical professionalism in dealing with us and my son, and her quality and knowledge of service was exceptional. The support staff assistant was very helpful in taking my son through the preliminary exam of his eyes, and took additional steps to help my son during the exam before seeing the doctor. Once again, truly exceptional medical professionals and treatment of care by all parties, and thank you to the staff at the front desk for their very good customer service. I recommend this provider for your eye exam if need arises. I sincerely hope you get top notch service, and eye exam/treatment procedure for people of different age groups. Thank you. This office has the most friendliest and professional employees. It is one of my favorite doctor's office to visit. I especially feel at ease and comfortable with Dr. Duan and her staff.

Highly recommend. The staff was very friendly, and knowledgeable. Saw Dr. Baran and she took her time with the exam. The ladies in the front gave wonderful service. Becky & Wisty took time to help me pick the perfect glasses. Who knew that you could spend an enjoyable Saturday morning at the eye doctors.

My experience with Dr. Duan was good- she was patient, thorough, and took time to explain what she was doing. I appreciated her seasoned perspective on my eye issues. However, I had a bad experience overall with the office. After dilating my eyes, I was lead to a pitch black room where bright lights were flashed in my eyes- I believe this was taking photos of my eyes. After that, I waited with no eye protection in a fluorescent lit, bright room with no space to move around, stretch or relax between the chairs, table and television crowding the space. I have not had my eyes dilated more than a few times before and have never had this experience with the bright light. I did not know that I was supposed to have eye protection and was not offered it. I was not told the timeframe for my wait time or what was happening to me. After several minutes in the waiting room, I began to feel nausea, anxiety, and the start of a migraine. I covered my eyes and head with my arms, started to cry, and called out to my fellow patients to alert an aide. No one acknowledged or helped me. One of the aides came by to get another patient from the room and did not acknowledge me or or ask me what was wrong. Several minutes later, they returned and brought me eye shades. They did not ask if I was alright, what I was experiencing, if I needed water or other resources, etc. I continued to cry and experience a migraine for several minutes until Dr. Duan was ready for me. When I was called back into Dr. Duan's office she was sympathetic and understanding and turned down the lights in her office. She let me wait in the dark office until an optician/receptionist called me up to the front. Once I got to her desk, she proceeded to do a different task in the back room "so that she wouldn't forget about it." I told her that I needed to be in a dark room and that I would be in the bathroom until she was ready to work with me. Several minutes later she knocked on the door, called me back to the desk and began the check out process. To be exposed to these tests/procedures of the dilation and bright lights without an explanation of how it would make me more light sensitive, and to not be offered eye protection afterwards was really surprising and disappointing, as well as provoking a migraine. I would have liked a more clear description of why I was waiting and how long it would be. I won't comment on how my fellow patients ignored my obvious distress. Dr. Duan was the only person who seemed even the least bit sympathetic, and I will say that I felt respected by her and that she gave me good medical assessment and advice. I would not recommend this practice based on this experience, though I appreciate the consultation that I got from Dr. Duan.

I brought my 96-year-old mother-in-law in for an appointment and absolutely everyone at Ellicott City Eye Care was extremely kind, patient, professional and friendly. They made a potentially very difficult time actually enjoyable.
