Pros: they were able to get me in quickly and were flexible when I needed to come in earlier.
Cons: let me start by saying I'm actually pretty confused that no reviews mention the office, and even more confused that nearly all reviews are 5 stars.
My appointment was at 9am and Dr. Prentiss' trashes were overflowing, and the desk was a total mess of paperwork, old water bottles, febreeze, mouthwash, lotion, etc. Crumbs all over the carpet and wires dangling everywhere. The diploma was just taped up on a wall, no frame or anything. Old shoes were thrown under the sink. The window blinds were ripped nearly in half, and the general office space of the practice was just shy of abysmal.
I have been to MANY doctors, a few eye doctors included, and this made me so uncomfortable to see everything so cluttered and unkempt. I tried to look past the mess, until of course he began mansplaining how female hormones work- to me, a 26 year old woman. When I mentioned a medication I was on was for migraines, only because he asked my medication history, he went off on a tangent how they were likely caused by hormones and it's common because I'm in the hormonal age range and glasses or contacts won't fix hormonal changes. I confirmed I'm working with a headache specialist in Boston, have had headaches consistently for 15 years, and it's already been established that my eyes and headaches have no correlation, but he continued to "doctor" me about different kinds of headaches and causes and symptoms. Weird.
And the creme de la creme of the appointment? Seeing him wash his hands for approximately 10 seconds before putting contacts in my eyes himself. No gloves, just his hands all over my face. Is this normal? I've had a dozen friends say no and my surgeon boyfriend is also very concerned that no gloves were used.
Oh, and his mask was pilly like he's worn the same one for weeks. But I digress...
Overall, nice guy, but out of touch maybe? The office was seriously awful and I felt like he was talking to me like a child the entire time. I won't be back, but you can try your luck if you're in your 70s and half blind anyway. Maybe you can overlook the mess?
Go somewhere else ... don't waste your time going here. I'm super disappointed. I've been going here for years and had good experiences but then in January I referred my parents to go here and they have had the worst experience. They ordered glasses in January and when they tried them on neither of their glasses were correct. The Dr sent them back to the lab to get adjusted and it's now July and they still don't have their glasses. I've called many many many times and no one ever calls me back with updates. It's very disappointing and now my parents can't go somewhere else because this place already charged their insurance so if they go elsewhere they have to pay out of pocket. Also, one of my dad's glasses were safety glasses for work so he's been without prescription safety glasses now for 7 months. Just very disappointing in the poor customer service. I won't be going back either now.
The doctor was half an hour late for my appointment, did not help me at all and in fact I subsequently found out that his treatment plan and his "diagnosis" for my severe dry eyes were incorrect. And, he tried to sell me glasses when I do not need them. Do not go here.
Honestly I feel really mixed about this place - but I probably won't come back. Dr Prentis did do a more thorough exam than most eye doctors I've been too so I appreciated that. I also enjoy that he takes time to chat with you and make you feel welcome but because of all our chatting my appointment took a really long time, after already waiting 20 minutes for the appointment to start. I was the last patient of the day and I work in healthcare so I understand running behind but 20 minutes is a bit much especially followed by an hour+ exam. The office is disgusting and very unprofessional looking- Papers and boxes and trash overflowing everywhere. They also seemed to struggle with my insurance even though I was able to call my insurance myself in less than 5 minutes and get answers about my coverage. I will say that one other positive was they gave me trials to hold me over until my contacts came in and also offered to send them to me while I was away on vacation. The front desk staff is very kind as well. SO ... if you're not in a rush or time crunch and you're able to overlook the mess (see pics from other reviewers).... I'd say go for it. For me... I think I'll be looking for a new eye doctor next year.
UPDATE: finally got the prescription sent to me and it is the wrong script!! Beyond frustrated. Please do yourself a favor and save the aggravation and go to a different practice.
Dr. Prentiss is nice. Trying to get a prescription is something else. Dr. Prentiss told me that an order of contacts would be placed and I would be called. A little over a month passed, and I called the office, but the order was never placed nor did they have a record of an order to be placed. I requested a copy of my prescription and was told it would be emailed to me, a week and a half later no email, no call. I called again today and was told again they would email it to me. We shall see, or not, no pun intended. The office is small and not busy, dirty, disheveled and unorganized.
I'm traveling and needed an eye dr. to get a glasses prescription. I've been to numerous eye drs through the years and have never had this uncomfortable or unprofessional of an experience. To start it was very hard to find the office inside the building. When I did I was checking in with the front desk lady who I felt was very off putting. I asked her questions about the paperwork and she was kind of rude and not helpful. I am pretty sure it was late when he called me in but that was not a big deal. The issue I had was the messy office. As previous reviews state- papers and boxes everywhere. The pictures of the office on the reviews are still accurate. He had me take out my contacts on the sink next to a bunch of cleaning supplies piled on the sink. He said "don't mind the cleaning supplies" how about just move them so people don't have to take out their contacts on a dirty sink? The place was in disarray. The 10 min eye exam turned into an hour full of Dr. Prentiss talking about random things and yawning in my face saying "sorry I don't sleep much". I get trying to make conversation and he was nice enough but I really just wanted a quick exam to make sure my headaches weren't due to my eyes. I also felt like it was weird that there was no tech that did the little machines (the puff of air in the eyes etc). I did have my retinas scanned and that was also uncomfortable. He grabbed my head and shoved my eye into the lens. I didn't even want to look at glasses there after the whole ordeal. I paid my money, got my prescription and got out. I'll find glasses elsewhere. Safe to say I will not be going back and honestly I would just skip this dr. And go somewhere more professional.
Not what I expected when I scheduled an appointment here. Office is very outdated. Once in the exam room, I was appalled at the papers all across the desk. Zero organization. Not the cleanest either. Dr. Prentiss spent more time talking about other things than discussing my eyes. He got into a political convo that I wasn't comfortable discussing. I got a second opinion and he had my prescription doubled what I needed so I couldn't even see out of my glasses.
It's been a few years since I had an eye exam but have been seeing Dr Prentiss for many years. I got an appointment quickly and my eye exam went well. The selection of frames is extensive. Dr Prentiss is the only one that gets my prescription right. I've never had a problem with being unable to see or wear my glasses. It was a great experience!
