Specialty Eye Institute

I enjoyed meeting and have confidence in Dr. Halm going forward with my eye care. However, the office experience was not as good. The waiting rooms feel cavernous and cold. You can hear staff all around but the warm feeling is missing. Not much personal interaction when checking in as kiosks are used. Just my opinion.

The specialty eye Institute was the most professional and thorough place I have ever been to get my eyes examined. They gave me answers that I never got my whole life from going to other eye doctors. I would highly suggest them because of their professionalism and thoroughness.

Fantastic, professional eye care. I had my annual eye exam at Specialty Eye. Staff is pleasant, professional, courteous, and on time. They explained what they were doing and escorted me from station to station as my exam progressed. The results of my exam were explained in a way that could be understood and my questions were answered. Overall a good experience!

Great place and people! Dr Ernest and everyone else I saw were very personable and thorough. I spent the most part of my exam with Steve. He is very good at his job and he made the whole experience very enjoyable actually. I would highly recommend.

This practice was recommended by two friends. I had the most thorough eye exam of my life with explanations about everything! The staff is friendly and excellent. I had cataract surgery and couldn't be more pleased with my care. I wish I had known about them sooner.

DO NOT LET THEM TOUCH YOU. My situation began in October 2024, when I was diagnosed with cataracts and referred to the Specialty Eye Institute for surgery. My initial consultation took place in November 2024. I underwent the first eye surgery on February 13, 2025, in Jackson, Michigan, followed by the second on February 19, 2025, also in Jackson. Unfortunately, the outcome of these procedures has left my vision significantly worse than before. Despite paying nearly $8,000 out of pocket for these surgeries, my eyesight has deteriorated, not improved. I've had multiple follow-up appointments, during which I was repeatedly told to "give it time," no solutions, no improvement to vision, nothing and it was even suggested that I may require yet another surgery. After seeking a second opinion, I was strongly advised not to allow the same providers to perform any further procedures. My vision has been severely compromised, forcing me to return to wearing glasses. Despite paying in full and having documentation confirming this, the Specialty Eye Institute has continued to send me bills. I am currently trying to get reimbursement as my quality of life--and my vision--have been irreparably harmed. These events have had a devastating impact on every aspect of my life. As the primary caregiver for four of my grandchildren, the effects of this situation extend beyond just me--my entire family has been affected. My life has been permanently changed. If you care about your vision DO NOT GO HERE.

I was very, very pleased with the way I was seen The technician did a great job and I felt I got a very thorough examination. Dr. Joshua Halm explained thoroughly each procedure and what I have to continue to do till I see him again. I left feeling very pleased with all that was done.

Highly recommend this practice. Staff is friendly, helpful, and professional. We are so fortunate to have such a talented doctor as Dr. Ernest in Jackson and the group practice he has assembled.
