I am disappointed with the scheduling team. They messed up our appointment twice without any apology, just blank stares and the promise to "squeeze" me into the schedule. Their communication is outdated, relying on snail mail, and they often forget to call to confirm appointments. They lack any system for text or email notifications.

I have been a happy patient of Dr. Hickner for the past couple of years, but today I would give him an extra 5 stars for seeing my elderly mother on short notice for an urgent issue. He was very kind, patient, and thorough with her even though she is hard of hearing and sometimes slow to respond. Many thanks to Dr. Hickner and his team.

I visited with Dr Hickner approximately 1 year ago for a cataract surgery consultation. Because sight is so important to all of us and I've never had a life altering surgery before, I got a few other opinions from other surgeons. After consulting visits with other doctors in the area, I have decided to move forward with cataract surgery with Dr. Hickner via a second consult with him. Here's why: 1) He was the only doctor who was not in a rush to be done with my appointment. I could hear the busy-ness of his office and the other patients waiting in other rooms, but he still took the time to explain how my particular type of cataract was affecting my vision. 2) He was the only doctor who could immediately answer my question as to why I could see so much better after having my eyes dilated. I asked other doctors this question at consultations and their responses were that they didn't know why dilation had this effect on me. 3) Dr. Hickner was calm yet candid with me regarding the degree of my cataract and advised that I make the decision how soon to have surgery done. 4) He seemed to be there for the same reason I was there; to help me with my specific condition. Other doctors ran me through their process like a number. 5) Dr. Hickner explained my lens options thoroughly to help me decide which option may work best for me. One of the other doctors I saw in the area advised that there were pamphlets I could read at checkout when I schedule my surgery. Dr. Hickner's office gals were to the point at check in and check out and not real talky because they were busy, but that's their role. His assistants / nurse techs (?) were very friendly and knowledgeable about my condition as well. They, like Dr. Hickner, took time to address all of my questions in great detail. They are the ones I'm relying on.

Dr. Hickner is, in my opinion, one of the best opthamologists in southwest Michigan. Very thorough, professional, friendly AND he is the only doctor that I have had who will personally call you to check up on you. I recently was referred to U of M's Kellogg Eye Center and, for me, I was not impressed. For my eye problems, I have more faith in Dr. Hickner than anyone else. The staff at the Singer Eye Clinic is just great as well. Thanks for all the help to the folks at the Singer Eye Center for taking care of me.

Had first cataract surgery at another place. Didn't like the results. I really like all the staff here. Very professional. Dr Hickner took time to explain things to me. He was very thorough with exam.

Great doctor! Made me totally at ease about the surgery. Great results! Exceptional staff.

They fit me in today and I am forever grateful. Wonderful, caring staff. I just decided to be a permanent client.

Dr. Hickner is a fine doctor. However, some members of the office staff are unprofessional and outright authoritarian. I received a rude and unprofessional message on my answering machine reprimanding me for requesting their office call in a prescription refill.
