This hospital truly understands how to care for children. From the very first phone call, the process was simple, organized, and stress-free. The staff verified our insurance upfront and sent all the forms in advance, which saved so much time especially helpful when visiting with young kids, since you never know what surprises the day might bring.
The whole unit is dedicated to pediatrics, with different pediatric specialties under one roof, which makes it even more convenient for families. The hospital is spotless, easy to access, and has convenient parking. It's very kid-friendly, with cheerful children's pictures, and a TV playing favorite kids' shows that kept our little one happily occupied while we waited. The staff were warm and welcoming, which immediately put both us and our child at ease.
Dr. Rajesh was friendly and great with kids. He took the time to answer all of our questions and made the consultation both reassuring and informative.
Our visit lasted about an hour, including the initial check-up, dilation, and consultation. We appreciated that they told us upfront to plan for up to two hours. Even with the waiting time in between, the environment was pleasant and well organized. Overall, an excellent experience for families seeking specialized pediatric eye care.
Couldn't be happier with the service we received today at the West Bloomfield location, from check-in to finish! My 7yr old son failed a state vision test at school for "other", and we booked an appointment to have this checked. They tell you up-front to plan for up to three hours with dilation, and I have to be honest, I was DREADING this appointment. My son gets anxious in new situations, and this was his first time seeing an eye doctor. My fears were absolutely unneeded, as we found out fast: we spent less than five minutes in the waiting room, the staff were fun and engaging, and my son is convinced that several of the tests were actually magic tricks! Dilation can be offered with drops or a spray that can be applied to closed eyes, and after a few initial nervous tears, my son had the spray applied. The quick follow-up exam after went flawlessly (he was already totally comfortable), and we were out in less than an hour. Really happy!
Warning! Do not take your kids here. My son is misdiagnosed. My son had a lazy eye and was mistreated. At the time he was 2 and half years and the glasses they prescribed to him was tooo strong. He is now 4 years and gotten worse. We took him to different eye doctor and told is the glasses are too strong and they made it worse . Everytime we go for check up doctor keeps saying his eyes are not getting better and that he needs stronger glasses. This place all they care about is prescribing glasses and having patients come back for money. This is defenetly an issue that i will take further.
Great Doctors, amazing staff! Stephanie B was awesome with her assistance in scheduling for me. Everyone here is fantastic! Thanks again Stephanie B. (patient A.R.)
Amazing location!
Every single employee was very nice, informative and awesome working with my son! Highly recommend Dr. Shaza Al-Holou.
We had a wonderful experience from start to finish. The office is bright, clean, and welcoming, the front staff were so friendly and helpful, and Dr. Rotberg and Katrina (the orthoptist) were incredibly kind and patient. They really helped put our child at ease. Highly recommend!
This place is great. That's why they have so many great reviews.
HOWEVER
Stephen Burwell's behavior is concerning. Our kiddo has a lazy eye and needed to have her eyes dilated. He (a stranger) got close to my daughter with that eye drop and attempted to put the drops in her eyes. Instead of calmly explaining what was happening, since she's only been on this planet for 3 years, he FORCED her eyes open and put the drops in.
I get it. We gotta get the eye drops in the eyes. What I don't understand is how you cannot communicate to a small human being what you are doing or why it's important. Afterall, this place is called CHILDREN'S Eye Care and you deal with *drum roll* children. Stephen mentioned having a child. And maybe that's how he treats his child. But in our eyes, a child is a human being with autonomy. You are a stranger.
I mentioned this to someone else who worked there and they defended his behavior. I asked if there are other options and she said yes, they could put the eye drops on closed eyes near the tear duct. So why wasn't this offered?
My stomach is in knots at how the next dilation will go. I hope we don't get Scary Stephen again. I apologized to my child for that whole interaction. As a first time mom, I want to advocate for my child. I feel like I failed her by not telling him off.
What's crazy is that you fill out paperwork and if I remember correctly, it explicitly states that you have to be respectful to the staff. But what about the other way around? You're dealing with small children. Experiences like this are why adults don't go to their doctors.
ANYWAY
The rest of thr staff, GREAT! Nicole, the optometrist, WONDERFUL! Probably our favorite person there. Would i recommend? Yes, but proceed with caution if you run into Scary Stephen.
I'm sorry but I don't care how deep in west bloomfield your office is, you don't make 6month old babies wait in a sweaty waiting room for over an hour and not even offer any baby amenities, then another hr in a shush room that almost 80 degrees, see pictures. So yeah amenities like maybe a bottle warmer or fun sensory toys for them to play with....Well thank goodness I came prepared for my daughter but I was not prepared for over and hour wait. To top it all off the visit seemed a bit rushed, like really we wait our time when we all know you are triple booking you appointments and then you don't even give us our time. Please make some changes soon!
