UPDATE 3/3/24: Looks like Fortney Ypsi is now closed with no warning? Was downtown a couple nights ago and walked past -- inside is all ripped out and there's a for-rent sign in the window. No warning, no notification. I don't even know where my records are or if they still exist. --- What happened to Fortney Ypsi?? I have been a patient there for some years, but I'm overdue for a checkup now and I... cannot seem to make an appointment. The online booking tool doesn't work -- every appointment time I select is always taken. (I get an auto-text telling me that someone will review my request, and then a few days later an actual person texts me and says the appointment is not available. Ok.. why is it up for selection then? Or, more recently, no one even responds to my appointment requests!) I can't call -- they're only open 3 days a week during times I am at work and CAN'T call. This location used to be amazing, I always felt comfortable and taken care of, and I could find nice frames for not too much money. But if I can't make an appointment at ALL now, then I suppose I have to look for a new eye doctor. :/ Disappointing. I see by other reviews that I'm not alone in having serious communication issues. To whoever is in charge of this location, please, fix things, or you won't have customers left.

I've been coming to the Ypsi location for years and have always had a very pleasant experience. Everyone is always friendly and seems to enjoy working together. Most recently, Kristina was very friendly and personable when I was checking in and helped with paperwork and the pre exam tests. Dr. Smithbauer is very knowledgeable and takes time to answer questions and address concerns, but also gets you through the exam efficiency. When it was time to pick frames, Sheila was incredibly helpful. She took the time to walk around the store with me, listened to what I was looking for and made great recommendations. I always enjoy working with everyone at Fortney and would recommend them to anyone who needs an optometrist

I had a 10:15am appointment scheduled. I arrived just after 10:00am to check in and complete all of the required paperwork in advance of my scheduled appointment time on 10:15am. By 10:45am it was 30 minutes past my scheduled appointment time and I still had not been seen. I inquired how much longer it would be before I would be seen and was told that there were still people ahead of me waiting to be seen. This was not acceptable. I took time off work for this appointment and needed to be back to work by noon. I likely would not have been seen until sometime after 11am and would not have made it to work on time after my appointment. I had to cancel my appointment and walk out of their office. This was a complete waste of my time. If you value your time do use Fortney Eyecare Associates.

I rarely write reviews, however I feel it might be helpful to know if you are considering your options. I started at Fortney a year ago and I got contacts. The office, staff, and exam were average. Not anything above and beyond, but not bad. First, they ordered me a pair of test contacts. Originally they told me they would arrive in a few weeks, however they ended up taking well over a month to arrive which felt unusually long. I had to call to check in on their status, they did not call me when the original timeline had elapsed. This was frustrating, but I was willing to look past it because they said it was an issue with the manufacturer. When it came to order a pack of contacts, I was told again it would be a few weeks. I waited again, and after the time had elapsed I gave them a call to check on the status. They told me that they had been in for several days, but for whatever reason did not call me. This was frustrating, but the worst of it was not until recently. I had called to get information about my contact prescription and through our conversation realized that they information they had on record for me is not the same as the information on my contacts box. I am unsure if this means they gave me the wrong prescription or the box was mislabeled, but regardless the lack of attention to detail and professionalism was incredibly frustrating and potentially damaging to my eyesight. I will not be going back.

Now that I've been, I will never go elsewhere! All personnel (at Fortney here in Ypsi) are affable, informative, obliging, unequivocally forthright and down-to-earth human beings!! Felt like family not moments after I walked in :) The environment within is very warm and very welcoming - Exam is quick and simple, optometrist is incredibly pleasant and patient - Tons of options for frames. While I do wish there were more frames from which to choose that fell within my price range, I was satisfied with the ones I chose in the end. I definitely appreciate the additional options for the lenses that were suggested as well! I guess I've been out of the loop, but I'd not heard of this "blue light filter" that could be added to the lenses until they suggested it, with my occupation being spent operating in front of 3 large monitors. I am very much looking forward to seeing how much this may help with that daily pain of screen-time! I am just insanely delighted to have become aware of you guys! Looking forward to picking up the new specs and to all my future visits!

The Dr. was very nice and welcoming, but the support staff minus the receptionist was very rude. I needed help on finding the glasses in my price range but was told to look on a tower in the corner which included both Male and Female frames. It took me a while to get through the frames as I was trying to figure out which is which as the lady kept running her mouth to a customer that could possibly be her friend, and just pushed me along as she continued talking. I'm not sure of her name but she has blonde hair. Poor customer service ladies!

Awesome experience. Michelle spoke to me on the phone for 15 mins just to give me information before my appt. She answered all of my questions. My kids felt very comfortable there. One of them got contacts for the first time and the teaching process by Michelle was seamless. The optometrist was very friendly and thorough. We will definitely continue to go here for our vision needs.

I recently ordered eyeglasses at the Ypsilanti Fortney Eyecare. I appreciate having a physical place to get my glasses that is local and reliable. This visit was as easy as the last times I have been there. Tere was very helpful and pleasant, and the process took 40 minutes at most.
