I had two corneal transplants at Mayo with Dr Ashley B. She restored my vision and did it professionally, yet she was kind and compassionate.
The staff were very helpful. I have absolutely nothing negative to say.
I made an appointment in mid November 2025 for January 20, 2026. Today, two weeks before the appointment, I get a notification that they're adding a second full day to the appointment. I don't live in Minnesota. I've already booked my flight and hotel, etc. so now I'm going to lose just about $500 on nonrefundable travel because they don't know how to schedule appointments. Screw you.
There is a reason Mayo Clinic ophthalmology is famous for their highly intelligent surgeons and skilled staff -- and everyone including me can attest to that. I have been a complex eye patient for several years and I leave every single visit with a smile and knowledge that I am truly in the best hands.

Being this was my first time at the Mayo Clinic, I did not have the best experience. Having a life changing and traumatic condition, I was excited to he healed and to receive new and great news and an even better treatment plan. I traveled several hours from a totally different state, and endured complete rudeness from staff.
The back "check in" staff did not help me at all and continued to blame a different department for the misleading information and their negligence. The staff was not personable at all; both, Benjamin and Teresa were both condescending, continued to interfere and interrupt me while I was trying to explain and ask for assistance and / or direction. The two had no intentions on assisting a patient or providing me with a simple number or resource needed. The continued to inform me that they would be following up with the department who sent me because they aren't sure why that department "keep sending people down there."
Both had name badges turned the opposite way, to prevent me from getting their names, completely unprofessional. This made me feel completely discouraging regarding my providers and my health. Staff seriously need training on interpersonal and communication skills as they are who patients come in contact with Before they see the providers!!
I was in awe of the wonderful care we received here. The doctors were so helpful, kind, and thorough with my daughter's multiple exams. They answered all my questions and took the time to read through all my daughter's records/charts from past years with other providers. We came here after trying so many other opthamologists and cornea specialists in Wisconsin, with no luck. I wish I would have gotten my daughter in here years ago! They were able to help her eye sight SO much more than anyone else--her grades in school have even improved significantly since having her vision strengthened by the prescription the doctors at Mayo were able to develop for her--truly an answer to prayer, and I felt like they GENUINELY cared. One very happy girl and momma here!!
Horrific. (except for nurse and check in staff who were good). Beware of Mayo's bait and switch. You think you will see a certain experienced doctor, then you only see a resident without much experience as I did. This guy made my eye worse than it was when I came in - much worse with a probably unnecessary and painful procedure. Then when I asked for a retinologist to see me, none did. The resident I saw did not wear gloves when touching my eyes and lips, no mask and worse was chatting allowing someone to come in and interrupt the delicate procedure he was doing to discuss non-essential matters. Just horrific. Money I don't have to get this fixed - if it's fixable. Go somewhere else.
My first visit to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester and the Ophthalmology Department. After a not so good experience in my hometown of Woodbury, Minnesota in which I did not feel comfortable with the expertise and integrity of a doctor who was to perform cataract surgery, I decided to put my health in the hands of Dr. Sanjay Patel. I'll begin my saying how organized and friendly everyone was at the Ophthalmology Department - very impressive. After a thorough exam in which everyone took their time to make sure things were being done right, I had the opportunity to meet with Dr. Patel. Dr. Patel immediately instilled a calming sense of confidence that I came to the right place. Excellent bed side manner; a genuinely nice person. Having looked at the results of all the testing that was done during my first two hours at the clinic, Dr. Patel, in no rush, took his time to carefully exam my eye. He then reviewed with me the results of the tests and his examination, went through my options, and recommended a course of action. I felt thoroughly comfortable with Dr. Patel's expertise and his integrity, knowing that he would do what was best for me. I am scheduled for cataract surgery in a few weeks and I will circle back to complete my review. As of now, I feel very comfortable that I am in excellent hands.
The surgery was a complete success. I was seeing 20/20 at the following morning with Dr. Patel. Within a couple weeks the eye was fully healed. This was an excellent experience and I am very thankful.
I've been a patient at Mayo Clinic in Rochester since May, 2019. I developed a rare form of eye cancer and have had nothing but excellent care by all those I've encountered in my cancer journey. I had dealt with admissions, billing, pharmacy, St. Mary's Hospital as an inpatient, radiology, surgery, and on and on. Everyone is all that I would hope for and I am grateful to have the folks at Mayo in Rochester caring for me.
