Sabates Eye Centers: Truman Medical Eye Centers - University Health

I am pleased with the first appointment...I was in and out ...but more importantly THEY WERE EXTREMELY NICE AND LET YOU KNOW everything they were doing as we went. GLAD I changed to a more convenient location and UNIVERSITY HEALTH is going out of their way to make things go as smooth as possible. Thank you for all your WELCOMING employees...here and in the building as a whole. Much appreciated

My daughter needed a follow up appt after an ER visit at Saint Luke's. I had NO IDEA this place is Truman Health clinic. They have no respect for anyone else's time. Her appt was at 920 and we are still waiting to be seen at 11:30. We would leave except they already dilated her eyes. If you have private vision and medical insurance, DO NOT COME TO THIS PLACE. Its literally like they are herding cattle. Its obvious that the majority of their patients are impoverished and it infuriates me that the patients are treated as such. Everyone deserves to be treated with respect and ALL patients time is just as valuable as the doctors. Ridiculous!!!

Poor experience overall other than just the long wait time after getting there for my first and last ever appointment The front desk staff charged someone else's bill to my card- this was resolved before I left, but still weird. When I had scheduled the appointment over the phone, I verified that they accepted my insurance, so after my appointment, I gave them my insurance and paid my out-of-pocket portion. Two years later they called me once and left a voicemail asking me to call them back and then sent me to collections stating that my insurance denied coverage. I called them as soon as I found out about the collection and asked why they didn't notify me of an outstanding bill before sending me to collections and they said that would break HIPAA. The voicemail didn't include any private health information and a simple payment reminder wouldn't have been HIPAA compliant, but I was able to pay immediately over the phone. (I'm currently working on reimbursement with the insurance company since I found Sabates through their list of providers but it was two years ago). As for the actual appointment-- I've worn a prism correction in my glasses prescription for over a decade but was told repeatedly by the Sabates optometrist that my glasses didn't have a prism in them, even though I had my last prescription from a different optometrist that showed the prism. The appointment ended up being a waste of money because the prescription I was given gave me such bad eye strain even after taking time to get used to it. I went to another optometrist shortly after trying to make the prescription work and was told that I'd been given a prescription that was too strong. I've been to a lot of optometrists because of moving around a lot and haven't really had negative experiences until this one- the staff was mostly friendly but there were too many things that went wrong.

I made an appointment with the kidney doctor and its scheduled in November which was just fine. The nurse from Sabates called me in May and said they can't schedule me until I renew my blue card which expires the end of September. 4 months away. I think its ridiculous to do this to me with diabetic eye and needing injection in my eye. They did surgery in my left eye that left me with about 20 to 30 percent of my vision left. This place really amateur and doesn't care anymore. Im checking into getting my eye fixed at Discovery now!

The least time I have ever spent here for an appointment is 2 hours. The last time was just over 3 1/2 hours! Their system sucks! With chronic back problems, by the time I left my back hurt so much because of sitting in a chair that long. When I got my appointment notice text, I cancelled through the system, but now I got another reminder... System obviously doesn't work. I called and sat on hold for 15.38 minutes wanting to cancel! Going for a new clinic.

Outstanding! Everyone was so helpful and polite! The surgeon was very helpful. She noticed the first corrective lens had a deformity in it and then apologized for the extra 5 minutes it took to locate a new lens. I'd recommend this office all day long.

Unprofessional staff in the optical shop at this location. I had to use this location to order my glasses as the Independence location didn't accept my insurance. They make you jump through hoops and talk you up on stuff you don't need, and the glasses come back blurry anyway. I had to go in for a recheck because the glasses were so blurry and giving me headaches. They had to put me in another room because the equipment that you look through to say 1 or 2 was so scratched up that I couldn't even see through it. Unfortunately I wasn't the only one there for a recheck, not to mention you could hear them on the phone with others needing to schedule for rechecks. The machines are severely outdated according to the optometrist that I seen, who did apologize. Seems like they need to get that situated before they start scheduling a ton of people. The wait in the waiting room for over an hour past your scheduled appointment time is pretty ridiculous.

Brought my mom to this place had a appointment at 2:00 pm. Did not see the doctors until 4:45 pm. This was our 3rd appointment each time the waiting time is 2 or more hours. U better bring your lunch because u will be just sitting and waiting. After the 3rd appointment they still didn't do anything for my mother eyes. We will never come back.
