Costco Optical Department

The Opthamologist for this location was very helpful and apologetic for the long wait, though we expected it because we were just fitted inbetween appointments. She gave sound advice on a retna tear and we were able to get it all fixed with a specialist before it became a detachment. Thank you for your great care.

If you match the energy of the people at the counter you might get somewhere. But damn, that lady wouldn't even let me finish my sentences. Very rude. Lay off the caffeine, go to therapy, or find another job.

Some of the reviews here are misreported for the independent Doctor of Optometry next door. I have always received superior service here. Just had Bruce adjust my two year old glasses and I am thoroughly satisfied. Great service, amazing prices and quality. I will keep coming back.

Today I had my eye appointment checked for the first time in a long time since I was little. So I was clearly not very knowledgeable on what the whole process is. Everyone was lovely especially when I got to pick out my frame and lenses, but the doctor was horrible. So I have to rate it low as thats sorta a crucial part of the place. The doctor, she was talking down, impatient and never showed any ounce of kindness towards me, making me feel stupid. Just felt like I was wasting her time, nearly walked out. I hope if someone is thinking of coming here with uncertainty with what they're wanting checked I don't recommend coming here. As she won't be patient with you about it.

I got new lenses there and one lense was .50 off of what my prescription said. I had to wait 2 weeks for them to fix it. Now I can't read out of that lense except if I tilt my head way back and read out of the very bottom of my lense and don't move my head. I'll never get glasses from Costco again. Whoever makes them must be drunk all the time. I've noticed too that nobody from Costco responds to these reviews.

I paid $170 for a pair of glasses that was very similar to what another place was asking $700 for. The person who helped me was super helpful. They explained why the first frame I chose wouldn't work well on me due to how the frames sat on my nose. They proceeded to help me go with my second choice (which were actually cheaper frames, so I know they weren't trying to upsell me). I could just tell they knew what they were talking about. They talked me through the whole process, and it's the first time in a long time I've been completely happy with a glasses purchase. Last time I spent $500 at Eyeglass World out of pocket with insurance. This time I spent $170 at Costco out of pocket for essentially the same features WITHOUT insurance. I understand others have been giving bad reviews, but I'm guessing they have no idea how bad the glasses industry can actually be. If you want a cheap price, go to Costco. If you want an experienced person to help you choose frames, go to this Costco. Also, the optical department is not the same as the optometrist as Costco. A lot of people have been giving reviews for the optometrist. The optometrist is where you get the exam. The optical department is where you buy the glasses. I came in with a prescription, so I don't know how the optometrist here is. But the actual optical department where you buy the glasses? They're a godsend. If I could give 6 stars I would.

I can not with a clear conscience recomend the Optical Department at the COSTCO on Eubank in Albuquerque. I have no respect for the Employees in this department They talk down to you for one. They try to impress you with their "Knowledge" which I found lacking. They talk down to customers. The product that comes out of there is a joke! They only sell plastic lenses with a "Protective Coating" that is Scratch resistant. LOL I recently spent over 170.00 for frames and lenses that were horribly scratched within 1 week. I went back to the Optical Department to discuss the issue. I was accused of not properly taking care of the glasses. Keep in mind when not being used they are kept in the hard case I was provided by COSTCO. They could care less that I have been a member since the mid 80's when it was originally Price Club. Their attitude is too bad! We got your money don't waste out time. I would recomend you spend your money else where if you are in need of glasses.

I haven't bought contacts at Costco before. I've always gotten them from my Optometrist. When I walked up to there were a few customers sitting or looking at glasses. There was no obvious line or place to queue. I walked up to the counter with two employees, each standing behind a register. I stood close to the counter waiting to be acknowledged. I waited an ackwardly long time (to the point where I thought I must be missing something and started looking around for any signs I may have missed). At first I thought they were finishing their conversation before they got to me and then I thought they were figuring out some issue with their computer system. Then the gentleman employee just walks off so I speak up and say hi to the woman and tell her I have a prescription. She responds "you gotta get a ticket over there. There are plenty of people in front of you"...as if I was trying to cut in line. The ticket dispenser was on the opposite end of the side from which I entered, so I didn't see it. And even then it was incredibly rude/poor customer service of them to not greet me when I was standing there for that long. A simple "hi" and guidance in the right direction was all I needed. You don't ignore a human being standing a foot in front of you. Is management policy really "only acknowledge people who have a ticket in hand"? I just left because I didn't want to give such undeserving people my business. If the low price is worth your dignity, I recommend patronizing this place.
