Sharing my mixed experience at this practice. Dr. Chan is an outstanding provider, and I have consistently appreciated her expertise and care during my visits. However, I am concerned about the conduct of the front desk staff. On multiple occasions, I found them to be unhelpful and at times dismissive, which unfortunately detracted from an otherwise positive clinical experience.
After my exam, I intended to order glasses through the office, but ultimately chose to take my prescription elsewhere due to the manner in which I was treated by the front desk. Regrettably, this has influenced my decision not to return to the practice.
This office has a little sign on their desk stating they do not have enough staff. You should believe this sign and trust they will use this as an excuse every step of the way. Upon initial visit, Dr Chan was extremely dismissive of my long-term health problems and the effects they may or may not be having on my eyes. In my opinion, she rushed through the exam and wasn't interested in diving deeper into the questions I had, rather she shut them down. When picking out my glasses, I had no help. The glasses took longer than I was told to arrive and I received no call telling me when they actually arrived. I had to call to ask about them. When I picked them up the first time, the transition lenses I had paid for were not installed. When I finally got the transition lenses, the glasses made me dizzy and nauseated. I made another appointment, my fourth time going to this office for one pair of glasses. I did not receive a confirmation of any kind and when I showed up, they told me I had the wrong time. Don't waste your time on an office that doesn't seem to care much about the second generation optometrist brag they have on their website.
I had to get a new eye doctor due to my doctor retiring. So my mom and I went to Dr. Mamie Chan to get eyes checked and new glasses. Dr. Chan was very respectful and thorough with the exam.
That's the end of the positives...I pick out glasses and the receptionist staff are either on their phones or not paying any attention to what they are doing. My mom paid out of pocket to get me thinner lenses and not the coke bottle like glasses. My prescription is higher and the glasses normally take about a month to be ready.
We went on September 10th, a week goes by and they let us know that my glasses are ready, but not my mom's. Odd because higher prescription glasses and lenses take about a month to be ready. We go in and the glasses are coke bottle like glasses and blurry on the right side. The receptionist checking the glasses tells me "Well maybe you can try to wear these glasses for the weekend". How? How can I wear the glasses when they are coke bottle glasses and blurry. So I had to go back to get another appointment.
October 10th comes by and Dr. Chan reexamines my eyes to make sure nothing is off. She said that's odd on how off the right side of the prescription and I told her how bad the coke bottle glasses were, even though the lenses were paid for. She even had to get on the receptionist for sitting around and looking at her phone instead of helping out customers. We ordered another pair to be polished. A month goes by...nothing. No word or anything, even called them to check on them and nothing.
Just today I got a message that the glasses are ready, but the glasses aren't polished or thin lenses because their lab wouldn't do it. So waiting for three months that I never got and had to pay $75 for the polished glasses. What a poor excuse for an eyeglass place for poor communication, poor receptionists, and poor professionalism on the phone. Seek other optical options.
All in all, my experience was okay. It felt as though the doctor and support staff were very busy and didn't have time to give each client too much attention. Dr. Chan was professional, but spoke very fast. It was hard to understand some of the things she said.
When being shown to the eyeglass frame section after getting my prescription, I was pretty much on my own. Nobody offered to help, but if I went to the front desk, they would answer my question.
I was told that my glasses would be ready for pickup within about 4 weeks. When more than a month passed, I left a voicemail. The voicemail recording said they would respond within 24 hours. After not hearing back from them for two business days, I left a second voicemail and followed up with a text message. They called me quickly after I sent the text message.
When I picked up my new glasses (which were fine) I learned that my glasses arrived about three weeks prior, but I had never received a phone call, text, or letter. This was the most frustrating part of this experience for me.
This visit in many ways felt like a visit to a vision center found inside a big box store. I am thinking of visiting one of those stores the next time I need an eye exam.
Ms. Chan was the MOST efficient and pleasant eye doctor that I have ever worked with! I have astigmatism and am hard to fit. She was patient with me as I went through the various lenses to eventually end up with what she had me in first. Her office staff was always kind and helpful! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND her!
Dr. Chan and her office were amazing with my daughters. My girls were afraid of their first eye doctor appointment and the staff were so friendly and Dr. Chan was so engaging that they quickly got over their fears and had a great time! We were also very late to the appointment and they were understanding and fit both children in. What a great experience! We will definitely be back for eye exams in the future.
Wonderful practice! My entire family has seen Dr. Chan for years and we feel lucky to have found her. She is engaged and thorough and has always provided what we feel is exceptional care. She stays current in changes in the field and takes the time to explain her recommendations in a way that we can understand. Thank you!
I have been seeing Dr Mamie Chan for 16 years now and I'm so happy she always fit my contacts correctly and is so sweet I think she goes above and beyond to make sure it is right. I would recommend her to anyone I also love her staff they are always nice and answer the phones nicely. I also love how fast they are it's like your in and out in no time.
