Been going here for many years. Final straw was today. They charged my union $300 and me an additional $150 out of pocket for a contact fitting and 2 boxes of contacts. They say I will need to renew with 2 new boxes in 6 months for an addition $400 out of pocket. Somehow my yearly contact bill jumped from $300 to $850. After asking questions and eventually leaving, I shopped the exact contacts around online and at other local eye doctors .. price ranged from $17 a box online to $70 a box being the highest at other local eye doctors, for this specific prescription.
DON'T GO HERE! CONSUMER BEWARE!
-PLEASE BE AWARE AND UP TO DATE ON YOUR INSURANCE COVERAGE and how much $ your insurance covers on your exam, frames, glasses/lens/progressive lens, and contacts (if you have insurance and coverage) because THEY WILL LIE, WILL RIP YOU OFF, AND TELL YOU YOUR INSURANCE DOESN'T COVER ANY OF THAT or they'll LIE and just give you a random amount without dividing all the add ons and FAKE/FLAT OUT LIE ABOUT THE COVERAGE AMOUNT/ALLOWANCE YOU HAVE ON FRAME, LENS, and CONTACT COVERAGE.
-BE SURE TO PRINT OUT A COPY OF YOUR INSURANCE COVERAGE that maps out your full coverage on frames, lens/glasses/progressive lens, and contact allowance because THEY WILL LIE AND TRY TO TELL YOU YOU ONLY HAVE A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF COVERAGE/ALLOWANCE ON A FRAME, LENS, or CONTACT.
*** In my experience they told me that with all of their frames I was only allowed $170 for them and that my insurance DID NOT cover any of the add on (I wanted transition lens, blue light protection, and polycarbonate/non-scratch tougher lens).
This was a flat out lie.
I went and researched on my insurance which now has an online shop for frames and lens and it told me that I was allowed full coverage on all the add ons I wanted plus $250 frame allowance.
Either they really didn't check my insurance coverage in the first place which I highly doubt because I got my exams done and that was fine, just gave me a random # on my actual frame/lens/contact allowance with my insurance, stock up on luxury frames that for some reason only gave me $170 worth of coverage rather than my $250 (which they do, I will say their frame selection is amazing... BECAUSE THEY WANT YOU TO GET A FRAME FOR A HIGH PRICE and I know some name brands give a lesser amount on frame allowance, but still...stocking up on just the most expensive priced frames is an unethical business practice for those who need a cheaper option), and or all of the above and they just want to RIP ME OFF.
-PLEASE BE AWARE AND CHECK PRICES OF NAME BRAND FRAMES AT OTHER RETAILERS AND ONLINE/THE ACTUAL NAME BRAND STORES BEFORE PURCHASING THEM THROUGH BROADWAY EYE CARE because THEY WILL RIP YOU OFF WITH THEIR FRAME PRICES.
-BE SURE TO DO A FREE ONLINE PD TEST (pupillary distance test) AT HOME BECAUSE THEY WILL TRY TO CHARGE YOU $25 OR MORE AFTER YOUR ACTUAL EYE EXAM IF YOU DO DECIDE TO BUY YOUR FRAMES SOMEWHERE ELSE OR SHOP ONLINE.
-In my experience the man working the front desk told me that he couldn't do a PD test on me because I wasn't buying frames from them and that every frame and lens is different and that he'd needed to test out each frame I tried out because the PD would be different.
THIS IS A FLAT OUT LIE!
I #1 don't wear progressive lens so dividing where my pupils are from the top and bottom of the frames doesn't matter.
#2 for people who do wear progressive glasses. Yes it does matter how big your frames are because you will need a good amount of space from the bottom of your glasses to your pupils because that's where your progressive lens will sit, but when measuring PD it doesn't matter because PD IS LITERALLY A MEASUREMENT OF WHERE ONE PUPIL IS TO THE OTHER, AND IN STORES/OPTOMETRIST OFFICES IS ALWAYS MEASURED WITH YOUR GLASSES TAKEN OFF.
The amount of BS and LIES they tell their customer is astounding. Do not be fooled by their new renovations and name brand frames. It's all a front. Their practice is a joke and is more of a malpractice than anything else.
Like other comments say if I could I'd give them 0 stars I would.
I will make a complaint to news sources and 311, but I doubt it will be of any help.
Just be aware before entering and taking your business to this place.
DO YOUR RESEARCH AND BE UP TO DATE ON YOUR INSURANCE and even your rights as a consumer.
My recent phone interaction was very disappointing. The representative continually spoke over me and didn't allow me to talk. They gave unsolicited advice and made assumptions that were neither relevant nor helpful. Overall, the entire conversation felt pushy and condescending, which made the experience frustrating and unprofessional.
If I would have researched the reviews prior to visiting I would have saved $700. Seems like it is there goal earning per customer.
I purchased glasses for my 8 year old, seemed expensive but I had already waited over 4 hours for service so just wanted to get it over with. stay away, please do. My sons glasses were run over by a car but since I had purchased shatter proof lenses they survived. Since I only needed to replace the frames I went online and searched for the same frames and found them for $18!!! Now I am extremely upset.
The location is dingy, dirty, dusty the rugs look like they've been there for years past their lifetime boxes surround you everywhere even in the customer area and the customer service is mediocre. The dumb lady that was testing my son was catching an attitude with him because he didn't know how to properly situate his face on the old testing machines. I mean at least charge for an experience being that you are not charging for product.
I recently moved to the Kingsbridge area. I'm in my 40s. Not unusually, my vision has been on the decline as I've gotten older. I decided that it was time to finally get some glasses, and Broadway Eye Care was under the subway line. It is an older establishment, but that is not uncommon for the neighborhood. I was tested and measured and I purchased a pair of Progressive Lenses in a steel frame that were not cheap, but I wasn't looking for a bargain either. I paid a little more than I had hoped. The problem was that, despite their assurance that I would get used to them, the lenses seemed very wrong. I have never worn glasses before, so I did not know what to expect. I was prepared for the progressive transition at the bottom of the lenses, but my problem was vertical. The outsides and the center of the lenses were very distorted. It was preventing my brain from putting together a complete image. Everything was split apart. It felt very wrong. So after a week I decided to go back and see what they would do. At that point I read a number of very negative reviews on Google that made me extremely apprehensive. These glasses were a lot of money for me, and suddenly it seemed like all that was about to go in the garbage. My experience could not have been better. Esther was very attentive. My eyes were re-examined. The owner came from across the street (he also ones the Cohen's Optical on the other side of Broadway. That's why the optometrist comes over from there. She goes back and forth). He carefully reviewed the cut of the lenses. Took some new measurements. Made some adjustments, and my glasses were replaced a week later. The new lenses are much better. Progressive Lenses are a new experience and do take some getting used to, but this is obviously something I can get used to. I really could not have asked for better service. I think that people today are very quick to feel angry, frightened, and taken advantage of. We don't seem to try to resolve situations. Instead we walk into them angry and turn them into a conflict. Then we post angry reviews when we never really tried to work anything out. No one is going to confuse Broadway Eye Care with a state of the art optical facility, but it's not supposed to be. It's just a small business on the corner of America, selling eye glasses. I found them to be pleasant, helpful, and concerned about my situation. I could not have asked for anymore. I will go back when I need a new subscription.
DONT GO HERE!! Make sure to report them!!! ..I took an eye exam which was paid for by my health insurance. I call back 3 days later after doing some research to ask and get my prescription numbers which was suppose to be given to me before leaving the store. The female clerk gave me an attitude and three different answers to something I have the right to receive. First she asked me " what do you need the proscription for ?". Then after I asked the second time on second call she said " you have to make a payment before I give you the prescription" then on the 3rd call she said " you have to pay off the glasses in full to receive your prescription s" . According to the paiten rights I am suppose to receive the prescription after my fitting. These people are basically practicing fraudulent business practices and praying on there own community. I reported them to 311 And the FCT. Don't go here
STAY AWAY THESE PEOPLE WILL STEAL YOUR MONEY. These people took advantage of my mother and charged her $700 for lens!!! Yes you read that correctly LENS- NOT INCLUDING FRAMES. They advertise cheap prices (glasses and exams - $100) BUT WILL CHARGE YOU AN ARM AND A LEG. If I could give them zero stars I would. Currently disputing their OUTRAGEOUS charge with my bank. STAY FAR AWAY!!!!!!
first time going to get contacts and it was horrible, 1st i got the wrong contacts, then the 2nd time i went with an appointment i had to wait an hr to be seen, then on another visit the doctor was like yea it makes sense you arnt seeing 100% because we are ignoring your astigmatism. so after about 6 visits and endless testing out contacts the doctor says there was nothing else she could do. So $120 for nothing. Do not go here.
