I have been dealing with Flatbush Optical on Flatlands Avenue for years. There is now a new 'doctor' called James. He is terrible! I had to return my glasses three times because they were not right. First, I kept falling because everything appeared shorter/lower than it really was. I was stumbling just walking, and falling o& steps or ledges. I went without glasses 2 or 3 weeks while he corrected the wrong prescription he had given me.When I went to pick up my glasses, they were not transition as I had paid for. No fuss. I went without glasses for another 2 weeks. After getting them back, I went in to explain that they were tinted glasses and not transition, and that I had to squint in the sun. This same 'doctor' who had given me a wrong prescription, and failed to make the lenses transition --without any problem from me, was condescending, arrogant, and disrespectful. When I questioned his attitude toward me, and told him he was making me out to be an idiot, he told me I was proving myself an idiot, because I did not know what I was talking about. When I called him out on that, he said he said I was proving myself a liar -not an idiot. If he were as smart as he claimed he would have seen that nowhere in that exchange was there room or cause to suggest/imply anything about lying. (I should have asked him if he knew as much as he says he does why it was necessary that I walked around stumbling and falling, then had to do without glasses for more than a month after paying more than $1000.00 for them. I was too angry to remind him of that). Rather than listen to my experience with the glasses, and remember that I made no fuss about the inconvenience he had caused me on multiple occasions, the so-called doctor treated me with disdain, as if I were a bothersome inconvenience, when I refused to believe that my cap acted as a visor to block the sunlight; thus preventing the transition from taking place. At that point, I informed him that I did not always wear a cap, and there was still no transition. It was then he told me that if I wanted them darker I would have to pay more for a di&erent process that does that. When I told him no, and that I would not set foot in their facility again, he smugly smirked, waved his hand and repeated "bye" countless times. I became really angry. My sister was urging me out the door and he followed me taunting me with "bye", "go". It almost got physical.
Prior to this incident, I had no problem with the staff or the previous doctor there. Honestly, the staff is courteous, personable, pleasant, and respectful. This 'doctor' who gave me the wrong prescription following his 'thorough eye-exam' needs some lessons in personality and proper people-people communication. A refresher course in his :eld of study would not hurt either. The next person he gives the wrong prescription to could seriously hurt himself/herself. Other people's experiences with James might be di&erent, but whatever it is about me that made him disrespect me and talk down to me, my experience with him is de:nitely worth no more than a negative one (-1) star.
I called the Flatbush Avenue location and was told to come in. I went, and Michael was the exact opposite of James. He treated me with respect, listened to me, explained what the problem was, and gave me a short-term solution to the situation, with the invitation to call should any further problem arise.THANK YOU, Michael. Flatbush Optical on Flatbush Avenue is my new eyecare/eyewear stop.
I visit the clinic on Saturdays. The staff is helpful. The doctor explains the prescriptions and procedures. We ordered glasses and contact lenses. The contact lenses process was a bit complicated and confusing. I take part blame because of my ignorance, it was my first time ordering contact lenses. The process of ordering contact lenses could have been explained better.
Absolutely Horrible Service!!!
Beware!! The doctor is good . But, the heavy set young man at the front desk is lazy, stays on his phone while office is full with patients.. He lies and lie about when he sent out order to UPS. Yet no tracking number, He claims he cant get through to insurance Co yet each time I call no problem getting through.
Absolutely Horrible Service!!!! Go at your own risk! You've been warned!
