I and Eye Optometry

Terrible service. Brought in my existing frames to get new lenses; was exceedingly clear to staff that I would need them by October 3 as I would be traveling abroad for 6 months. Glasses did not arrive back in the store by promised date, instead I got a call on Oct 16 that the glasses had arrive (after I was no longer in NY). After repeated calls from me, on October 24, staff finally agreed to express mail them to a temporary address that I would be stopping at (but only for a limited time), for which they charged me an additional $20 for that privilege. I was quite clear that I would only be at that temporary location until Nov 1, and that the glasses needed to be mailed either that day or the next in order to reach me in time (the post office is just 3 blocks away on 9th St). Staff said it was understood. Glasses did not arrive by the new promised date. Staff told me that they had been sent. Later learned that they waited 10 days to mail them (and not express mail, either) on November 4, for delivery on November 7 -- i.e., a full week AFTER the date that I would no longer be at the temporary location to receive them, which they knew. I asked to speak to the owner, the staff would not give me a phone number for him and told me they only communicate with him via email. I asked the staff to have him call me, but he didn't. Finally, after I wrote a letter to the owner, he called me, and promised to refund my money, but I haven't seen it yet; even if they do, I'm still out the cost of my frames. The prior owners, when it was known as "Optical Illusions", were great to work with. But given the new ownership, I would never do business with this place again; they make promises that they cannot keep, and I can only conclude they deliberately misled me.

Dr. Obinna Akano and the I and Eye staff were great! The office was super clean and modern. Dr. Akano is through. He listened to my concerns and was pleasant. I have found my new eye doctor!

Phenomenal service! I recently lost my job and am currently on HealthFirst -- I was a bit wary of the quality of care I'd receive, as many clinics that accept Medicaid clinics are often brusque and uncaring towards patients. Dr. Obinna Akano could not be more of a stark contrast. His demeanor is very gentle, warm, and comforting. He was patient with my questions, taking the time to explain as though we were having a regular conversation. It isn't often that a patient feels like an equal -- sometimes it's just an implicit power dynamic or the result of compressed back-to-back appointments and overworked staff -- so when it is the case, it's truly something worth treasuring. The ladies at the front desk were also extremely helpful. All in all, nothing but positive things to say!

So my daughter and I went for eye exams today. I asked the the young lady in front my insurance had an allowance towards purchase of glasses with the exam she said no but I could get a 30 day supply of contacts for $100 dollars thru I and eye I said that's too expensive I rather go online and get them for cheaper since I am not working at this time. After my exam was over I asked for my results and was told by Dr Obinna Akano that it was I and eye policy to charge $100 for the results of the exams that's $200 on top of the charge to my insurance for the exam. Did I miss something here? I'm being charged for the results of an exam I just paid for Sounds like a scam to me.

Staff was really rude and unprofessional with my parents who are elderly. Disgusting. Under new management, do yourself a favor, find a new optometrist.

Great Place!! I came here needing new glasses / new prescription. I was able to get an exam for a very resonable price and my glasses for a great price as well. Very quick turnaround too. Highly recommend! Support local.

Got a great new pair of glasses for a great price! Owner and the woman who checked my prescription were very nice. 1 month later, I bent my new glasses and the owner was able to bend them back into place! Always helpful!
