Retina Group of New York - Nassau County Ophthalmology Center

Title: Painful and frightening experience - I do not recommend this place I visited Retina Group of New York in Hicksville on September 12, 2025, for a routine eye check-up. I didn't have any vision problems -- I just wanted to make sure everything was fine. The initial tests showed that my vision was 20/20 with glasses. Then I saw Dr. Dang Suveera, who told me there were some minor changes in the membrane behind my eye, but that it was normal for my age and vision. She said she wanted to look more closely at the membrane behind my eyeball. I told her I was afraid because I thought she might touch my eye with a metal instrument, and I said no. Despite that, she insisted on doing the procedure. She said that if something went wrong, she could "drain the liquid in my eye chamber with a laser." That statement made me very nervous, but she didn't explain what exactly she was going to do. When I felt something touching and pressing on my eye, I panicked and pulled away. She stopped, but afterward I felt pain and discomfort for several days, and I still don't feel that my eye is the same. I regret allowing this to happen -- I had no symptoms and didn't need that test. I left feeling violated and afraid. It seemed like she ignored my consent and did something unnecessary just to practice or check something that wasn't urgent. I'm sharing this so other patients know to ask questions, refuse any procedure they're not comfortable with, and be very cautious about what is done to their eyes.

Entire staff is friendly and professional. The office itself is welcoming. They are respectful of my time and I was seen quickly. I have been a patient of Dr. Maisel for 30 years and appreciate the great care he's given my eyes. He takes the time to explain things to me and helps me understand the complexities of my eyes. I highly recommend this practice.

Dr Maisel and his staff are excellent!! So very patient and helpful. My 92 year old father has been coming here for years for macular degeneration. Dr Maisel saved my father's vision. Even the front desk staff are cheerful. Other doctors offices should come here for training! No joke!

Staff is very helpful and polite. Dr. Dang is thorough in her exams, explains everything she is doing and takes her time with each patient

On 10/28/24 I received very professional and compassionate care from Dr. Maisel and his team (Binu & Patricia). Binu asked me good questions that helped the practice better understand how I was doing. Both she and Patricia took time to explain the procedures they were about to perform, helping me relax. All three had reassuring chair-side manners and Dr. Maisel, a great smile.

I was referred to Retina Group by an ophthalmologist because of a potentially very big eye emergency. The appointment was set but they had to cancel. I explained how important it was and Ann Marie was able to get me in the following day. I saw Dr. Dang who was wonderful, explained everything, answered all of my questions (of which I had many) and was able to do the procedure same day. I'm very happy with the Retina Group of NY, highly recommend! And shout out to Ann Marie and Dr. Dang!

I have been a patient of Dr. Coe's for almost 2 years. He is very knowledgeable, compassionate and gentle. Though getting injections in your eye is not easy, his skill and gentleness makes the situation less stressful. My husband is a patient of Dr. Maisel's. He also possesses the same fine qualities as Dr. Coe, as does Dr. Shah also. This is a great practice. Staff is very friendly and accommodating also. I highly recommend them.

Doctor Maisel and his staff has taken great care of me for years. In fact, even though I have moved out of town, I chose to return to their office for followup when I visited recently. This office, including the staff, is professional , efficient, and kind to the patients. Dr. Maisel is an expert in his field . I trust his opinion and value the time he gives his patient after his evaluation is complete.
