Dr. Paul Bernstein is a complete ripoff. I called to schedule an appointment for my daughter to be fitted for contact lenses. The lady on the phone said that we would need to come twice in order to get a prescription. She also mentioned that we could order the lenses through them, but did not say that we had to -- and she definitely did not say that their prices were five times higher than online stores or fair market value. She explained there was a $140 exam fee, which I was perfectly fine with.
At the visit, my wife was pressured to purchase a one-year supply for $2,000. When she called me, I told her that it is a ridiculous price, to decline and simply get the samples and the prescription. Instead, her card was charged $760 for a three-month supply without clear authorization.
When we noticed the charge, I immediately called to cancel the order because we only wanted the prescription. The doctor and staff were upset and rude. They told me we were required to buy the lenses through his office and even asked for the trial lenses back. I returned the samples in order to receive a refund for lenses we never approved in the first place.
To his credit, he refunded everything except the $140 exam fee, stating it was for his time. However, when I asked if we could at least receive the prescription since we paid for the visit, he refused. When I asked what I was getting for the $140 fee, his reply was, "Nothing at this point."
We ended up going to Lens Crafters at the Westchester Mall. Their exam was $144, but they accepted our insurance and our copay was only $50. They provided a week of trial lenses, and we purchased a three-month supply for $164. We are now two weeks after the fact and my daughter loves her contact lenses. We ended up paying $214 versus $760 for the exact same thing.
This experience felt more focused on selling overpriced products than providing patient care. I strongly recommend asking detailed questions about pricing and prescription release policies before scheduling an appointment. I am sure Dr. Bernstein will reply to this review with some nonsense.
I cannot be more impressed and please with Family Vision Care and Drs. Andrea & Paul. They are exceptional!! My mother is a nursing home patient and is wheelchair bound! We had to work some magic to get my mother eyes examined and checked. They both pitched in and made it happen. Their bedside manner was outstanding!! So very patient and kind to my mother who is in a fragile state at this time. It brought me to tears. I would highly recommend anyone to patronize this office. Top notch, A1 service!!
First time visit, Beautiful, clean office and very professional staff. Dr. Bernstein was very meticulous with his work and directing me an understanding what I needed. Quick, fast and easy and I can see better with my glasses.
My first visit to Family Vision Care's office in White Plains was a distinct pleasure. To schedule that appointment, I spoke directly with real humans at the office's front desk - knowledgeable, helpful, thoroughly pleasant staff - rather than, as often happens, leaving a message or waiting to be transferred from a distant, larger headquarters. The office is new, a recent move, apparently, so it's spotless, but that's neither here nor there. It was the staff that gleamed. The receptionist greeted me with a smile and paperwork at the ready; the new-patient forms were clear and comprehensive; and the intake interview with Dr. Bernstein's assistant was handled crisply, politely, and with actual interest (and deeper probing as warranted) in the eye-health-related aspects of my life. Not to be ignored was the camaraderie and mutual courtesy among the staff members working with me. When, in the exam room, I met Dr. Andrea Bernstein, I understood where the staff's attention to detail, competence, and personality came from - from the top down. Dr. Bernstein clearly had reviewed the chart I'd transferred
from a former office and, in fact, requested clarity about a small discrepancy - something noted in the chart vs. something I had written on the new-patient form. THAT kind of attention to detail. Her exam was thorough, she explained everything she was measuring, and she actually employed a couple of measurement devices that were new to me. The end result: a prescription for glasses that finally solved a problem unsolved for years (a bit of vertical double-vision which had previously been handled by "adjusting the frame," something that never solved the problem long term). The office has an optical store - a display of beautiful eyeglasses that are, for me, expensive. When I told Dr. Bernstein I'd like to try searching online, she did not try to discourage me. She explained what to look out for and then knocked me out with the suggestion that if I went the online route, once I had the glasses, I should come in and they would measure the lenses to make sure the online operation had gotten it right. Never have I experienced that degree of courtesy from an ophthalmologist, optometrist, or optician. I cannot recommend Family Vision Care highly enough.
Drs. Paul and Andrea are both equally amazing. Dr. Paul was able to cure my headaches when no one else could. I saw three different eye doctors along with my PCP. He is very thorough and takes his time and doesn't make you feel like a number. Dr. Andrea takes care of my daughters and is amazing with them both. The staff is also extremely welcoming and friendly.
I have been a patient at Family Vision Care Associates for 24 years. Dr. Paul Bernstein and his staff are outstanding. They really go above and beyond to make your experience as wonderful as possible. They are very knowledgeable and are always current with the new technology. In my lifetime, I've transitioned from wearing glasses, to contacts to Lazik and I couldn't have done it without Dr. Bernstein. He's been a wonderful help in adjusting to all the changes and I'm grateful for all the support I've gotten over the years from him and his team. If you're looking for an experienced and reliable doctor who's patience and kindness go above the norm, look no further!!
Very Pleased with my first experience with Family Vision Care.
Maria was extremly diligent in finding a time to get me in that fit my needs.
My visit with The Doctor was thorough and complete. My visit with Toni to choose new glasses was extremely comfortable and patient as its is not an easy task
with so many choices. I highly recommend This office.
As a fellow professional who needs her eyesight for work (I am a pediatric dentist), I don't trust my eyes to just anyone. Dr. Andrea Bernstein is not only knowledgeable and personable but is always accommodating to my busy schedule. I highly recommend her and her staff!
