Duke Eye Center of Cary

I have been seeing ophthalmologists since I was 8 years of age. I have also been an avid reader since age four and I have had FOUR sets of eye and laser surgeries on my eyes! I have had ophthalmologists all over this state having lived in five Cities in my almost 72 years. Yet--I have never been more pleased with any eye center, the front desk team and the physicians than the Duke Eye Center in Cary. But today I experienced another one of the best--over the phone. My vision change suddenly in my right eye. I called yesterday, but spoke to a Duke Scheduler who represented all eye doctors and locations. After 20 minutes of holding, she informed me she was not able to get me in until my appointment in March --three months away. I worried most of the night when I could not see to read. So I called back this morning and was blessed a man name Brandon answered the phone line. He let me describe my sight issues, repeated everything back to me, asked all the right questions, and displayed true empathy. He asked if he could put me on hold so he get me the help I needed. Within a few minutes, he was back and seemed as happy as I was when he shared "I got you in for Monday Morning! How's that?" Brandon was able to get me in on the next business day with a Duke ophthalmologist. . Although we will drive about 10 extra minutes, excellent vision is more important to me. Before I hung up he told me he sincerely hoped everything would turn out ok for my vision. (I about started crying.) This unknown face who helped me today makes such a difference in the lives of others and patients like me. He should be teaching others how to portray Duke as the best in care. It doesn't take great vision to know that someone truly cares.And Brandon does. Thank you.

Dr Fan listens and explains well, professional and personable. Staff is skilled and friendly. Recommend it over Durham site- much less wait time.

Disrespectful of patient time. Avoid this clinic if you can. I politely showed up early to my quick post op appointment. They have a board that shows wait times. There was no posted wait time and I was not informed they were running behind when checking in. I proceed to wait an hour before I complain and the board still shows no wait time (which I've pointed out). After I see the doctor (who is excellent and clearly is very resourceful with their time) they _still_ haven't posted that they're running behind.

Everyone at this location is so nice and helpful and my appointment was right on time. Dr. Fan is absolutely wonderful, very kind and thorough.

I went to Dr. Allingham for my eye treatment. I wanted to go to Duke for the best possible treatment, so I drove 4 hours from Asheville each way. The professionalism paired with kindness was second to none which made the trip totally worth it. I would recommend him/the staff to anyone.

Everyone here is very friendly and professional. The waiting room was busy but I was taken back right at my appointment time. I was here for a lasik consultation and it took about 30 minutes. No problems at all!

This place is awful. The front desk lady was very nice and empathetic. That was literally the only good thing about the visit. Every member of the staff that I interacted with (besides front desk) was condescending and dismissive. I understand that they were busy, but I was left alone for over half an hour in an exam room with no explanation. Dr Borkar told me that you should always expect to be there between 2-3 hours. The exam was quite painful as well. If you're referred here for a retinal specialist, I recommend looking elsewhere.

I was not happy with the kind of customer service I received from one of the employees at the front. After asking her about whether or not my relative checked in and was in the middle of the consultation, the employee asked whether or not I was the "interpreter". It wouldn't have been a big deal had my relative not spoken a word of English, however my relative is fluent in English but has an accent. The assumption was rather ignorant and once I made the remark that it was unprofessional the employee continued to talk about me and was justifying her actions so loud that another client overheard and told me about it in the middle of the parking lot AFTER I had left. Perhaps the ignorant and slightly racist assumption made on her part was an accident however, discussing clients in front of other clients is the epitome of unprofessionalism. Edit: 1/17/2023 I have had multiple negative experiences with Duke Eye Care - Cary. Today (Tuesday at 8:30) I contacted the office to schedule an emergency check up for a relative who has been experiencing eye problems. I was told that I would be scheduled for the following day, Wednesday at 8:30am at the holly springs location. I was later told by my relative that the appointment was in fact scheduled for today- Tuesday at 8:30 - the exact time I was on the phone with the receptionist. My relative contacted the office once she received an email about her missing her appointment- the one that was supposed to be for Wednesday. She tried to get a different time scheduled but was told that it would be preferred for her to go to her optometrist to get a referral so that her OWN DOCTOR - ophthalmologist would be able to see her. She has been visiting the Duke Eye Center in Cary for over a year. She should not be required to obtain a referral from a completely different medical professional from a completely different medical institution for her own doctor to be able to see her- she is NOT a new patient. we will not be returning.
