I went to this practice because I had an injury to my cornea, and their site claims to provide urgent care. As I am visiting my family from out of the country, I don't have an ophthalmologist here. While I was able to see Dr. Wood on the same day, I spent over an hour waiting between the nurse testing my eyes, and getting to talk to him. He proved to be impatient and rude, and mostly spoke with his assistant while I tuned in to understand what was wrong with me. When I asked questions, he huffed and puffed and responded curtly. After another wait of about 30 minutes, I was brought into a stale-smelling room with grimy textured wallpaper, where he and his henchman nurse complained about the difficulty of getting a contact lens into my eye, while pushing my head onto a metal apparatus and aggressively prying open my eyelid. Granted, it was hard, as my eye was very sensitive to the light, and I had trouble opening it, but this interaction left me feeling, well, violated. Later, while paying (an-arm-and-a-leg) out-of-pocket for the aggressive application of that contact lens, the violation was complete. When I expressed surprise at the cost, the woman at the desk said, "Well, we all have to make choices." It's true. But God help me if I have ever have to make the conscious decision to go to that eye doctor again.
My son has been going to this practice for vision care well over 10 years. We've had fine experiences in the past. I was surprised yesterday when I called to make an appointment and was put on hold for a long while. I decided to hang up and try again today. When I called a second time, I was again immediately put on hold. When I spoke to the receptionist she was incredibly rude and when I asked for appointment times she was indirect about what was available. I shared that we've had good experiences in the past but that her energy was not one I wanted to work with. We will no longer be scheduling with this office. Why start off on the wrong foot?
I love everyone that works here, especially the staff at the front desk! They are so nice and you can really tell that they enjoy their jobs. I recommend them to everyone. Bonus - they have the BEST selection of glasses!!
I have been going to chapel hill Opthalmology for about 7 years & I have always love how dr Haas & dr wood plus the staff in the back has treated me. They deserve 5 stars but The front desk service by Angel is horrible she's rude, obnoxious and combative when I tried to check in she talks over you. When I asked for a supervisor she then complained loudly in front of everyone embarrassing me in front of my children. I would give 5 stars if it wasn't for the front Desk service.
Staff and Dr Wood is very friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. They make sure you understand what your diagnosis is and the procedure that they are doing. I highly recommend Chapel Hill Ophthalmology. Great staff and Dr.
Sitting here 45 mins after appt time still waiting to go back. Asked at the desk about delay and was rudely told by the staff "we are a busy practice." They are an overbooked practice. This is the 4th time in several months I have an accompanied a lady here to get help for dry eyes. We have never been here less than 2 hours, and usually more, for a minimal time with the doctor. Dr Wood barely speaks to the patient. I would never come here myself and would not recommend it to anyone.
Was clearly once a great practice but has lost decency and competency. Dr Wood has become rude and unavailable, lacking bedside manner and common decency while speaking with patients. I attended an appointment as a caregiver and Dr Wood interrupted the patient several times while she was expressing her own concerns after she had taken a bad fall. He left the room abruptly at the "end" of the appointment without any indication to us that the appointment was over. He just walked out at the end of a sentence.
His assistant then berated the patient in the middle of the waiting room for not having had a specific type of exam in a very long while instead of asking why that would be the case.
The only good comment I can make is that the preparation for the appointment was handled very professionally by a young man who clearly is interested in his work.
The building is very old and needs temperature regulation and more ADA accessibility.
Tight corners, small hallways, tiny chairs, tiny bathrooms. It was hot.
Would not recommend this practice anymore. My patient said she is considering switching practices after 20 years.
Sad decline.
I had some weird issues with my eye problems that my usual optometrist could not help me with. I made an appt with Chapel Hill Ophthalmology and had the most thorough eye exam I had ever had. They were able to identify the issues and I was quite relieved. Everyone was helpful and nice. They were really busy but things seemed to move along at a reasonable pace. I saw Dr. Wood, who was great, explaining what he was doing as he went along. Highly recommend you want more than just a "which is better" type exam.
