I am going to try to be tactful and respectful while writing this.
I arrived at 3:15 PM on 2/11 for my 3:15 PM appointment. The two nurses who assisted me were phenomenal. Nothing I am saying involves them. They were amazing. Everything I am saying is directed at Dr. Morias, the other nurses, and the front desk staff.
There were patients there who had arrived at 2:00 PM who still had not been seen when I left at 5:10 PM. Keep in mind, I left because after the two incredible nurses dilated my eyes and took images, I was never seen again. No follow up. No update. Nothing.
The front desk staff left while patients were still waiting. Some nurses left. I saw doctors walking around. Not a single person gave any kind of update. No "we're running behind." No "all rooms are full." No "who are you waiting on?" Patients were just sitting there with no communication and no front desk presence. That is unacceptable.
I had to knock on the door and inform Dr. Morias myself that I was leaving because I have a child to pick up. No one checked on me. No one asked if my eyes were still dilated. No one explained what was happening. The lack of respect for patients' time and basic communication was disgusting.
Because of this, I have reported this practice to the appropriate board. Whether or not action is taken, this needs to be on their radar. Patients should not be treated this way.
This practice clearly needs better systems in place. If you do not have enough rooms, do not overbook. Have a cut off time. Communicate delays. Something. Because what happened today was incompetence with time management.
Make sure my insurance is billed correctly. I was not treated by the doctor. That needs to be reflected. Also, my $20 copay needs to be refunded. I paid to be seen by a doctor and was not seen.
I will not be returning. This cannot be rectified. And judging by the reviews, this seems to be a normal occurrence.
UPDATE 1/20/26: i was able to get in touch someone last week on wednesday, and Kirstynn (i believe was her name) and she was phenomenal, however my review has still stands as she is the only one who has been fantastic throughout this whole situation, and i have been going here almost 7 years. i told kirstynn, who is not even the day to day clinic scheduler, she is a surgical appointment scheduler who called me back. she was kind, thoughtful, and was very helpful. i explained to her i was not upset with her, but i was upset with UNC Health as a whole, for allowing agents to treat their patients the way they do. before kirstynn, the lady i spoke to on my original call, was very rude, abrasive, talked over me, never let me ask a full question without being interrupted, nothing. i was made to feel out to be a liar. that was very inconsiderate. i was told since my neuroopthamologist who had retired was retiring, i would be considered a new patient, which may be true, but however i feel like that is wrong. due to me being her for 6.5 years, i should not be considered a new patient in the practice but a new patient TO THE DOCTOR. i had tried to tell them due to my condition, i needed a neuroopthamologist but she swore up and down i never saw a neuro-opthamologist. i would know better as that is all ive ever seen there. my appointment with the original agent (BRITTANY/Britney), was scheduled for March 24th, however she said then since my dr retired i would not be seen till OCTOBER 2026. Over a year after I originally scheduled. I then asked for a referral to be sent elsewhere, was told I couldn't. I would need my original neurologist (who has since moved to a whole different state) to refer me out if I wanted to change doctors. I told them I wait on this. i asked could i make a complaint and brittany/britney told me i could not. this feels wrong as you take compliments but not complaints? however, a few days later, Kirstynn, who was FANTASTIC, called me, and told me that she was covering for my previous doctor and going to schedule appointments for the time being for him. i thanked her for her help as she was able to get me an appointment in FEBRUARY which is earlier than my march 2026 appointment i originally had and earlier than the appointment the first agent told me i'd have. i thanked her for her kind words and her generous help. i apologized myself if i seemed rude, but as a whole, UNC needs to work on their customer service skills.
used to be able to get in touch with someone at the front desk to be able to schedule or reschedule an appointment. however over the last year, if you do not call first thing in the morning, you will not be able to reach anyone. i have been trying to speak with someone about an upcoming appointment for a week now, and get the same response "all representatives are currently busy", was on hold for 3.5 hours. the lady originally stated she would be right back after answering the phone and asking could i hold, after 3.5 hours, i ended the call as that is unprofessional, even with "higher than normal call volume".
It is absolutely impossible to reach anyone to schedule, reschedule or cancel an appointment. You'll be listening to this automated hold music for hours, as well as - "Your call is very important to us, please hold for the next available representative" till you finally lose your patience and give up. I've tried two phone numbers with the same success. It's outrageous how they couldn't care less about their patients by doing this. If I could give negative 5 stars, I would!
I can confirm all of the above BAD reviews - even without having made it to the clinic. Waited 9 months for my appointment and got it cancelled 3 days out - only then did I check the reviews and decided this is an absolute JOKE + dangerous to settle for this kind of "care". I'll move on - including new wait time. Better safe than sorry !
After booking the appointment 9 months in advance, my appointment was cancelled this week with no explanation. That encouraged me to read through the other reviews which I did,,,and now I feel lucky my appointment was canceled. I won't follow through re-booking my appointment, the health and well being of my eyes is too important to leave to a non-professional office.
0 stars if I could. Came in within the 15 minute grace period and they still wouldn't see me. I even called and told them I was in traffic on I-40 coming from Burlington. Got up to the kiosk and then they said they wouldn't see me. Waste of time and completely unacceptable.
My young son was in a traumatic accident and required emergency surgery out of state. We were referred to UNC Kittner Eye for an urgent follow-up due to our insurance coverage. Unfortunately, they have canceled our appointments twice and continue to push the date back. Despite being told he needed follow-up care every two weeks, they are now saying the earliest he can be seen is 8 weeks post-surgery.
The front office staff has been consistently rude and difficult to deal with. When we showed up in person for a scheduled appointment (which was then canceled because the pediatric ophthalmologist wasn't available), the staff member at the desk sighed loudly and even banged her head on the desk in frustration clearly upset about having to reschedule us. It was extremely unprofessional.
At this point, we're in the process of switching our insurance because dealing with UNC has been more stress than it's worth. I pray my son is healing properly and that their delay has not permanently altered his future.
I am very disappointed with our experience today. We had an extremely long wait, and after my child.. who is disabled... was described as "uncooperative" following dilation, we were told that we would need to return on a later date for sedation to complete the appointment. The actual appointment itself seemed short and rushed, which is especially concerning given my child's needs. On top of that, she did not even receive the protective glasses for her eyes...I had to go back in to ask for them. This entire experience has been frustrating and disheartening.
