Albemarle Eye Center: Sean W. Smolenyak, O.D.

I was a patient at Elizabeth City for years but had grown tired of the long wait times. I transferred to the Edenton office two years ago, and the service has been 5-star and above ever since! The entire office is excellent -- organized, efficient, and welcoming. The tech (I believe her name is Amy) is super nice and very accommodating. She made the experience comfortable and easy. It's definitely worth the drive. I'm so glad I made the switch!

We live in Manteo and the office in Kitty Hawk is definitely closer (about 20 mins) but they don't have a dr that takes my daughters insurance so we had to go to the Edenton office (1 hr and 15 mins) but it was worth it! My daughter and I were both impressed with the staff there. The ladies at the front counter were helpful and friendly when checking us in and out. The girl that took us back (I guess she'd be the Dr's nurse ?) and did the eye test and put her drops in to dilate her eyes was awesome! We left there feeling like we'd just been hanging out with longtime friends. I'll drive that extra distance and time every time just to have that experience.

The entire staff is GREAT. Been a patient of Dr. Smolenyak's for 14 years. Wouldn't trade doctors for love or money I would absolutely hate to have to find another eye doctor, hope he doesn't plan on retiring anytime soon. Followed him from The Kelley Eye Center in Durham, NC when he relocated back to Edenton/Ablemarle Eye Center. He's the best.

The staff was amazing they explained everything they were doing to my Granddaughter as this was her first eye exam and they were very professional and the, Dr. Was also exceptional I will definitely be back with my Granddaughter next year and I will also be coming back. Thank you so much for making her first eye exam so relaxing and no overwhelming

The optical tech was very detailed and kind, but the rest of the appointment felt rushed and unlike any eye exam I've had before. After receiving my new prescription, I was sent to the optical side to review options--expecting at least some guidance--but I wasn't helped at all. When I was called to the desk, I wasn't given a name or any introduction. As soon as the staff member saw my insurance, she simply motioned toward a run-down section of frames, as if she couldn't be bothered. The selection itself was dirty, disorganized, and noticeably outdated. There was no effort made to offer customer service or assist in choosing glasses. I ultimately left empty-handed and very disappointed.

Staff was super amazing, friendly, and caring. Jacquelyn was nothing short of amazing. She explained everything to me and the purpose of it. Her kinds words actually made a difference in my day. Dr. S was great as well.

Everyone was very friendly and helpful. Highly recommend. You hardly ever get the feeling of being cared for as a person not a number but here you're treated as a person

New to the area and needed to get my father in law in as quickly as possible. Not only was I scheduled almost immediately it was one of the most efficient and thorough appointments we have ever gone through. Especially considering all the underlying conditions. So excited to continue his journey with Dr. Sean (Not sure how he spells it !)
