I had my eye exam on Monday, 10/13/25, and while my experience with Dr. Skinner and the technician (in the far back room on the left) was great, the issues began at checkout in the optical area.
When it came time to pay, the payment system went down. My total was $354.93, and after moving to another register with Trina, I added a $3 donation, bringing my total to $357.93. The payment went through, I signed, received my receipt, and left.
On Wednesday, 10/15/25, I noticed both amounts, $354.93 and $357.93, had been charged to my account. I called around 9:00 AM and spoke with Crystal, who said she would "do some digging" and call me back. I never heard back, so I called again at 5:30 PM and spoke with Justin (or Jesse). Unfortunately, that call was frustrating, he frequently cut me off and came across dismissive. After I explained the situation, he said, "Oh yeah, I see what you're talking about. We'll get that fixed."
Shortly after, I saw both charges had been removed from my account. However, around 6:27 PM, Crystal called back to follow up. I told her the charges were gone, and she simply said, "Okay, have a great day."
Then, early this morning (10/16/25, 3:15 AM), I checked my account again and saw that both charges had posted again, totaling $712.86. I immediately contacted my bank to dispute the extra charge and submitted my receipt for their investigation.
As someone who works for NCEENT (Duke Health) and does the same type of work as Crystal and Justin, I expected a certain level of professionalism and follow-through. I chose America's Best hoping to be treated like a regular patient, not a coworker, and while the exam itself was excellent, the customer service afterward was disappointing.
Once I pick up my glasses (expected 10/25/25), I won't be returning.
The two stars are solely for Dr. Skinner and the technician, who were both wonderful.
I haven't been to America's best in a few years now, however decided this year to give them another shot. Today got a call from their Receptionist Ms. Alexandria to comfirm my upcoming appointment. She was very informing about my upcoming appointment sharing a very detailed information on what to expect during my appointment. Great job on going over and beyond on your job Ms. Alexandria. Most times I just get call confirming my appointment, and rushed off the phone.
This place is getting one star only because I did get glasses and they work. But their customer service is lacking. They care about you if you're buying the glasses but if you want to get them fitted correctly or even pick them up. Be prepared to wait.... And wait. They only care about the customers who are buying glasses. Not the follow up. That doesn't have a commission. And they are rude about it. They are like you're gonna wait an hour or more and we don't care. Do not, do not recommend. Run away from this place and go to another if it is available.
I bought two pairs of glasses from this company. After I tried them both I realize I could only see close up. I could not see to walk, to drive my car, I can see the TV or the computer. I went back and they did a quick exam and said they don't see anything wrong with the glasses. I check out and the receptionist claimed she adjusted them. I brought them home and tried them for several weeks and I still can't use them, except for reading. I am sorry but I can't recommended them judging from my own experiences.
If this is America's best we are screwed. I just drove all the way to Fayetteville from Cameron because I looked up online who took my insurance to get eyeglasses and this was the only place that I could get one today on a weekend and I get all the way here and they're like we don't accept your insurance I'm like okay well I guess I still want to do it. I literally signed one piece of paper, took 2 seconds and she tells me to go sit on the blue bench in the back and by the time I get back there I'm like you know what I'm not paying out of pocket. so I walk up and I'm just like I'm going to go somewhere else, and as I'm walking away the 'lady' she's like whispers, waste of time under her breath and so I'm like yeah it was a waste of my time you're right.
So long story short don't waste your time the lady is rude she doesn't know how to greet people. I was in the store for less than 2 minutes and she managed to be that rude. Sorry you wasted 2 mins of your time bc you were so so busy oh and your big nose ring is hideous, think you're trying to deflect from your crap attitude. Didn't work girl. Seeing all these complaints in a lot of them are involved the receptionist maybe you should consider getting a new receptionist bc she's horrible. She was condescending to someone on the phone as i stood there waiting for their convo to hang up. Should've known right then.
I had a very disappointing experience with Josh while trying to purchase glasses for my child for the a first-time. Instead of receiving guidance or patience, I was met with dismissive behavior and a noticeable lack of professionalism.
Joshua seemed irritated by basic questions and made the experience unnecessarily stressful. There was no effort to explain the process in a way that felt supportive or welcoming to a parent navigating this for the first time.
Additionally, the overall presentation and hygiene of the staff and environment raised concerns and did not reflect the level of care I would expect in a setting that works closely with children and families.
Customer service requires patience, respect, and clear communication--especially when working with parents and kids. Unfortunately, this experience fell short in all of those areas. I would recommend this location but I would recommend Joshua / Josh to other parents seeking a positive or supportive experience for their child.
I wish I would have spoke up for myself, my child, and the overall experience.
3 stars because I liked my doctor and the assistant that was in the room. Minus 2 stars because of the process of waiting with no communication once you are done with the doctor ansnif you inquire about the next step you're met with sass. Also the Americas best brand contact lenses are very uncomfortable & I will not purchase them again.
Jesse was top notch. She was able to resolve an issue with glasses I had purchased in December. That kind of customer service will keep me coming back.
