I had a terrible experience with my vision, I had retinal tears. It all started with my right eye and soon after my left eye, very scary situation, but thankfully I was referred to Dr. Michael Nissen, whom is the BEST RETINA SPECIALIST IN NYC. When I went to his office for the first time I was very nervous, but that all ended as I sat in the waiting room. His staff were very accommodating and compassionate. What caught my attention about Dr. Nissen was the passion he has for his art, and may I add his attention and care for each and every one of his Patients. He exemplifies what total patient care should be across the board. He is very detailed in explaining the prognosis and procedures needed to make things better. Dr. Nissen listened to me as I expressed my concerns (which were, when would I be able to work again). His positive energy and enthusiasm were instrumental to my recovery. Carla, Teresa and Joe made this whole experience a better one as well! This group is awesome! I continue going for my follow ups.. Eternally thankful for their GREAT service.

Recently, I required urgent surgery to repair a detached retina. My husband immediately researched the top retina specialists in Manhattan and was fortunate to arrange an appointment with Dr. Michael Nissen. We met him at 8AM, was diagnosed and had surgery the same day at 4PM. To assess Dr. Nissen's approach and competency as impressive would be to understate the excellent care I received from the doctor, his assistant and staff. I was treated courteously, professionally and, as was needed, swiftly. Since then, I have been back three times for follow-ups. My husband was so impressed with how my appointment time was respected and met by a wonderful and gracious front desk and how Dr. Nissen was caring and direct in his examinations and instructions. Thank you, Doctor. My husband could not have made a better choice to place my care in your hands.

Dr Nissen has the most professionally complete practice. He responds immediately to emergencies: night or day. He is highly compassionate and helpful. His staff are the most tightly run team. They work together with Dr. Nissen, to provide the patient with the best care possible. The staff always welcome me with recognition and smiles. I feel very safe in the care of Dr. Michael Nissen.

Doctor Nissen is extremely professional. Our experiences in his office have been pleasant. His staff is friendly and cooperative and most importantly he takes appointments in order; not when people show up and sign in. Most office visits do not last more then an hour and a half. That's pretty good for any eye doctor. I would highly recommend Dr. Nissen for any complicated retinal issue.

I had a very pleasant experience visiting this office, from the people at the front desk to Dr. Nissen, everybody is super kind, patient and understanding. He is an specialist on retina surgery and my problem was way easier than that, but he took the time to propose a solution for me and it was very helpful. Jules did all the evaluation before the doctor saw me, and she is a sweetheart! Thank you!

Simply, when it comes to care and professionalism with a very human touch, Dr. Nissen is the best. I first reached out to him with a retinal tear at night and he saw me first thing in the morning. I later had floater surgery with him at DHK Center. Though I was awake (which he prefers to stay in communication with the patient during surgery), the procedure was painless with perfect results. Great guy, great surgeon, great experiences. As I said - the best.

I have nothing but positive things to say about my experience with Dr. Nissen & his staff. There is no long wait (like most doctor's offices), the staff is pleasant, don't get annoyed with questions & concerns one might have considering the reason for the visit. I found Dr. Nissen to be quite pleasant, knowledgeable & patient. He takes the time to educate you about your situation & the procedure needed to rectify it...and doesn't rush you out to get to the next patient. While my procedure was unpleasant, I'm satisfied with the treatment I received. Best of all - no discomfort afterwards!!!

Dr. Nissen was great - I had a wonderful experience with him in April. Unfortunately, the representatives for his office are rude, demeaning, and unhelpful, and seem to want to escalate questions into arguments. I received a $600+ bill for services five months after my appointment - an appointment I had believed was covered. I called my insurance, and the representative said that Dr. Nissen's office had incorrectly billed the services and to have the office re-send the bill with the correct information. When I called Dr. Nissen's office, I was forwarded through four or five different representatives. The final two representatives were incredibly dismissive and disrespectful. They thought what my insurance company had said was ridiculous but failed to explain why, and laughed at me multiple times throughout the conversation when I expressed my confusion. The last representative also said Dr. Nissen had diagnosed other eye problems than the one I was there for (which he never told me and is completely untrue), and repeatedly told me I could "pay it off" as if the bill was nothing. I am going to try and straighten this out with my insurance company, but you would better serve your patients by speaking to them with care and compassion when they are surprised with an unexpected and costly bill. I will not be scheduling an appointment with Dr. Nissen again.
