8 month update: Still love the claron panoptix implant but there are negatives too. Low light vision isn't as good and reading very small prints is difficult since the reading focal length of the implant is fixed; you can't move the tiny texts closer as one would do with normal eyes. But, still would recommend this expensive option. My one eye has -0.5 and the other -0.75 and got glasses for that. Works well. Despite the good medical care, their billing stinks, always making mistakes to their advantage. They billed my wife's service to wrong insurance and billed us 145. My $8000 cataract surgery was contracted to make my vision perfect. However, due to the very small residual power, Dr Shaheen and I agreed that I should only get glasses, rather than a lasik procedure that was included in the cataract charges. But guess what, they billed me $45 for vision testing saying that wasn't covered, so paid that charge Dr Davis, please take not, many otherwise satisfied patients are unhappy with your billing department. -------------------------------------------/ Update on Claron PanOptix trifocal IOL 3 months after surgery): This IOL is amazing. After about 60 years of wearing glasses, getting up in the morning and not looking for glasses is great. Distance vision, intermediate vision and reading are all excellent. In fact I can read very fine prints and see farther than what I could even with glasses before surgery. I need a very small correction for astigmatism which Dr Davis will perform if I want. Glasses is another option. These cost about $4k per eye in addition to insurance coverage. Despite all positives of this implant, there are a few details that a patient needs to know. There are some halos looking at bright lights but it's getting better. In very dark lighting, to read tiny prints, you need some additional light. Other than these, the implant is perfect. ------------------------------------------------------ Had laser assisted cataract surgery this week for both eyes with trifocal implants. Couldn't be any happier with the entire process and outcome so far. Very efficient operation - surgery, staff, anesthesia and follow up. Our family has been going to Davis eye center for over 20 years and we are very satisfied.

I had surgery on my eyes back in I think 2012 or 2013 and have never been more happy. I did have to go back and have them tweek one of my eyes but was told this ahead of time. Your talking about somebody who wore - 13 eye glasses. Thick as pop bottles. I was almost legally blind. I couldn't see details 5 or 10 feet in front of me. I asked many guestions and they answered all of them. Dr Davis was extremely professional and staff was great. I'd recommend him to anybody. Not sure about guy with negative comments but for me it was great.

Dr. Davis and his staff did not explain up front what the possible side effects could be. After my surgery, I had flashing in my eye, especially in bright lights or when I looked at anything close-up. Dr. Davis and his 2 optometrists (Dr. Shaheen and Dr. Bischof) all told me they had never heard of anything like that before. They made me feel like I was imagining it. I have since found another ophthalmologist who understands what I went through, and guess what? He has heard of the flashing before!!

Procedure: Cataract surgery Do not use this doctor if you have allergies to any drugs. -Allergic to Cipro. Both nurse and doctor sold me on the "one drop" method. Apparently, they had not read the forms I filled out. Luckily, the surgical scheduler said "By the way, you're not allergic to Cipro are you?" Why yes, I am. The "one drop" contains Cipro. - Allergic to betadine. Nurse assured me there was an alternative. Surgical nurse used betadine. Intense itching for 3 days from either this or -Allergic to adhesives. After surgery, nurse taped eye shut. (This wasn't done in second surgery with another doctor.) Again, intense itching for 3 days. -Paradoxical reaction to Versed (verified by my gastroenterologist). Dr. Davis was unfamiliar with this and said he had never seen it in any of his patients. -Waiting time in patient waiting room prior to procedure. Be prepared for sitting for two hours in an upright chair in a very cold room with your eyes shut and your head down. -Patient literature states "...a sedative to relax you will be administered through your IV before surgery begins." If you are having laser procedures first, there is no sedative given until you are taken to the operating room for the IOL insertion. You will feel everything during the laser procedure. So little sedative was given for the IOL insertion (opted out of Versed), that I felt everything done there too. -Rudeness and dismissal of your concerns. During the next day follow-up, I discussed these concerns with Dr. Davis. His response: "Well, are you coming in next week?" (for other eye). When I responded no, he said "Well, I can always use the open spot". No further appointments were scheduled; I was told to call my optometrist for follow-up care. -Outcome. Dr. Davis may be a good surgeon. The cataract is gone. Unfortunately, the IOL prescription was off. I opted for mono-vision lenses and the reading eye was done first. It would work great if my arms were twelve inches longer. The focal distance is too far for reading.
