Dr. Nguyen and Associates

Very easy to schedule an appointment online, also easy to reschedule online. However, they are happy and quick to assist via phone. Staff was quick and very friendly. I knew exactly what to expect, did my exam, chose glasses, paid and was on my way.

Very unhappy with the scammy, untransparent pricing. The technician who saw me at first, and then Dr. Nguyen, were both wonderful and I was having a good experience up to that point. But I feel I must warn people about the optician who comes after that to actually calculate how much your glasses are going to cost. I had EyeMed vision "insurance" (at first -- more about that later). At first I said I wanted one pair of regular glasses and one pair of sunglasses, and she was going to put one pair through insurance. She quoted me something like $112 for the first pair and between $300-$400 for the second pair -- but that was while she was just making handwritten notes on her little sheet. When she put it into the computer to get the actual pricing spit out by the program, the price went way up. So I asked her how much for just the one paid (which she had quoted $112 before). Suddenly, the price through the computer was almost $500. No matter what combination I tried to get it cheaper, different kinds of progressive lenses, getting rid of transitions, with my own frame, without my own frame, this woman quoted me something like $500. Then I asked how much it would be WITHOUT insurance. She still quoted me about $20 LESS WITHOUT INSURANCE THAN WITH insurance. Yes you read that right, it was slightly cheaper to pay out of pocket than to go through insurance. We never did get back to the $112 she'd quoted me earlier for one pair, not anywhere near it. Suddenly I remembered that my husband is a vet and I asked if there was a veterans discount. She said, yes it was 40%, but they were already giving me 40% for paying out of pocket so they could not stack the veterans discount on top of that. Honestly there was no rhyme or reason to it, and she was not helpful. I should have just walked out of there, but I'd already been through the eye exam and everything and I didn't want to start all over with a different place (I'm new to this town so I didn't already have an eye doctor). So I went with the "no insurance" price and immediately went home and cancelled my insurance (another total scam). I won't have the glasses for about two weeks. They better be good after all that. Really feel cheated.

I scheduled an appointment because my eye doctor closed her office. I told Dr. Nguyen that I have been getting headaches behind my right eye and I can count on one hand how many headaches I've had in my life. He chalked it up to my age (I'm 43). Well, after switching to daily contacts from monthly and my headaches were not getting any better, I went to a doctor. I've only been sick maybe 5-6 times in my life (I was unusually healthy). So I didn't go to the doctor often. I told the doctor my symptoms and he sent me in for a CAT scan and then an MRI. and well there was a reason I've been having headaches. I have a tumor. It's behind my right eye. So I'm sure this eye doctor is fine but if you have a major concern, see your doctor first. So many optometrist have caught glioblastoma but this one didn't. There isn't anything he could've done. So, I shall try to enjoy the next 4-6 months that I have left.

Dr. Nguyen and his staff have always been so welcoming and caring every time I have had an appointment. I, admittedly, have not been great at using my contacts in the past. This made me so nervous for my first eye exam with Dr. Nguyen because I was terrified of being shamed or judged, but when I went I didn't feel treated that way at all. Dr. Nguyen and his staff were very understanding and helped me find a routine that would work better for the health of my eyes. Knowing that I'll be treated with care and respect has made me stop dreading going to the eye doctor. I would highly recommend Dr. Nguyen and his staff for anyone needing a reliable and welcoming optometrist in Norman!

Everything went great with my eye exam. Dr. Nguyen is an excellent doctor. In addition to Dr. Nguyen, I see two other eye specialists. I very much appreciated that finally one of these doctors (Dr. Nguyen) took the time to explain about the multiple eye scans that all of these doctors take of my eyes.

Seeing Dr. Nguyen was a pleasure. He was fast and very efficient. He explained everything very well and in a way that was easily understandable. The staff was also great! I had a hard time picking between frames and they were very helpful! I would definitely recommend going to this location or Pearle Vision.
