Dick Story Optical

I just purchased my latest pair of glasses from Dick Story for a total of about 75 pairs and each and everyone has been special. The customer service and selection are unmatched. I have brought my Kansas City Friends there to purchase new glasses as well. It is always a great experience and we have become like family over the years. Melinda will call and text me with new fun frames! Colby has even brought my new frames to the car for curbside service when I was on my way out of town for Christmas. I can not say enough good things about Dick Story Optical. It is truly one of my happy places! I always leave feeling good and excited for my next pair.

I'm disappointed to leave this review after spending over $1,000 at Dick Story Optical for a single vision pair of distance glasses. Unfortunately, the experience didn't match what I'd expect from an optical boutique positioned at this price point. On Thursday, May 1st, I visited the store ready to make a purchase. I had my prescription in hand and was already familiar with their unique selection of eyewear. I was greeted by Melinda and assisted by Dave, who helped me choose a frame and processed my payment. He let me know my prescription was straightforward and that my glasses would be ready the following Thursday. He also mentioned he'd email me an itemized receipt that evening so I could submit it for insurance reimbursement. Thursday, May 8th came and went with no update. I wasn't able to break away from work, so I stopped by in person on Monday, May 12th. Melinda informed me that one of my lenses was on backorder and the supplier had not notified them. She estimated they'd be ready by Thursday, May 15th--now at two full weeks. May 15th arrived with no proactive outreach. I called around 5 p.m., and Melinda quickly confirmed the glasses were ready and that I could come by before 6 p.m. to pick them up. The call ended abruptly--no apology, no pleasantries. I barely got a word in before the conversation was over. I arrived before closing, and while the prescription and fit were correct, I couldn't help but notice another customer being told their glasses still weren't ready. That made two delayed orders and a concerning trend. Before leaving, I asked again for the itemized invoice. Melinda seemed surprised I hadn't already received it and said she would send it after helping another customer. On Friday, I received an email--but there was no attachment. I replied within minutes to let her know and have yet to receive a response. I've purchased a total of five pairs of frames from this optical, but this was my first time purchasing both frame and lenses. While I understand that occasional delays can happen, the lack of communication and follow-through was frustrating--especially when paying a premium. For transparency's sake, I do have familiarity with the eyewear industry, and I know that when a lens is backordered, there are typically options available to optical shops to escalate or source from alternate inventory. In this case, I wish more effort had been made to manage the delay and keep me informed. I'm giving two stars because the glasses were made correctly. But the rest of the experience fell short. I'll be taking my business to Black Optical, where service and delivery seem to be better aligned with customer expectations.

WOW!!! I came in for a repair for my glasses which snapped in half and they said "We don't know how possible it is to repair these but we can try" since the metal hinge was snapped in half. Guy walks out 20 minutes later and says "I did this for you because you're near-sighted and it's the weekend. These will last you just long enough to go in to your glasses place on Tuesday for new frames!" Walked out with usable glasses all for free! Nice folks, I'll definitely come back <3

These guys are awesome, went in today to see if I could get my sun glasses repaired and Colby fixed them in no time, making them look like new. - Great service and great people. - I will definitely keep you guys in mind when Im in the market for a new pair of frames! - Thank you!

They care so much about each person. David is incredible. He will remember your name, tell you what looks good, and is a calm and nice good guy! Everyone on the team is super. Even if I did go so somewhere else, I feel the aggressive sales tactics, or simply not knowing what will look good. It's about trust in this business. They are all wonderful!!
