I spent over an hour (not included with months on waiting list) at Family Eye Care of Shawnee, completed every piece of paperwork they required, and signed all documents exactly as instructed. Despite that, my time was completely wasted due to what I can only describe as unnecessary escalation and poor internal management. After signing their liability forms, the staff informed me they would not put lenses in my frames because they "didn't want to be held responsible" if the lab damaged them. I simply said we could address that if it happened -- which is the entire purpose of signing their documents in the first place. Instead of handling the situation professionally, the first staff member made an issue out of something minor, then involved the office manager, who immediately told me they were "just going to refund" me without any discussion. The office manager and clerk then inaccurately described my assertive advocacy as "aggressive." The entire process shifted from routine to dramatic, with unprofessional and dismissive communication. This sequence--initial willingness followed by repeated liability emphasis leading to refusal--appears designed to discourage use of personal frames and encourage purchasing theirs, which carry high markups (often 200-300% over wholesale, resulting in total costs of $300-$600+ even after typical insurance allowances of $130-$200). By not buying their frames, I avoided those extra costs, but received inferior treatment compared to customers who do. Many practices routinely accept patient-owned frames with waivers, as these adequately cover minimal risks without issue. Their approach feels like sales pressure rather than genuine risk management, potentially pressuring patients toward in-house purchases. While the FTC's Eyeglass Rule does not require offices to accept patient-owned frames or install lenses in them, it prohibits certain coercive practices, such as conditioning exams on buying ophthalmic goods or placing liability disclaimers on prescriptions themselves. My experience highlights inconsistent handling and escalation that wasted my time after full compliance with their process. I cannot recommend this office and hope they improve staff training, policy clarity, communication, and fairness in handling patient choices without unnecessary drama or apparent bias toward higher-spending customers.

We absolutely loves the staff and the Dr. They were very informative and patient. We went in as a family with all four of us and they helped us each individually. Definitely recommend for your eye care.
