On February 17, 2025, I had an Eyelid procedure done at Lane Surgery Center, and I'm delighted to share what a truly outstanding experience it was from start to finish.
From the moment I walked through the door, the office staff greeted me with warmth and professionalism. She made check-in effortless and took the time to answer all my questions with genuine patience and kindness--setting a wonderful tone for my visit.
The nursing and technical staff were absolutely exceptional. Beyond their obvious skill and expertise, what struck me most was their heartfelt compassion and attentiveness. They carefully explained each step of the procedure in terms I could easily understand, which made all the difference in calming my nerves.
Everyone I encountered at Lane Surgery Center made me feel truly cared for and confident in the hands of such capable professionals. The combination of clinical excellence and authentic warmth throughout the facility speaks volumes about the leadership and the team's genuine dedication to patient well-being.
To the entire team at Lane Surgery Center: thank you for transforming what could have been an anxious experience into such a positive one. I will wholeheartedly recommend this facility to anyone seeking exceptional surgical care.
The provider (Dr. Sabah) and staff were very supportive and addressing my toddler's eye condition. Although my daughter is still learning to count and read the alphabet, they adapted their adult testing to engage her and without making them feel ashamed of not being able to see or read, made her feel safe, and not judge or shamed her for not knowing blurry shapes or numbers.
I wish there wasn't a TV in the waiting room (for children who don't watch much TV, it's a bit much and not age appropriate) and unfortunately the front office staff were on their phones every moment possible, but overall the experience was very positive.
Dr. Jason Newman is truly a rare gem. He - and his staff in Cottage Grove and Eugene (shout out to Abbie) - have consistently been kind, compassionate, and attentive to my mother's unexpected eye condition.
We first met him when I brought her in for sudden vision changes in January, 2025. The clinic fit her in within 2 weeks and upon discovering her issue (a macular hole), immediately placed a referral to a local retina surgeon for urgent repair (time is of the essence with these). He also took the time to explain what he saw, what to expect going forward, and unhurriedly answered all of our questions.
*Note - Dr. Newman is also a surgeon, but I learned that eye surgeons typically work on either the front of the eye (cataracts) or the back of the eye (retina).*
The retina surgeon - highly rated and outwardly pleasant - did technically repair the hole. Unfortunately the procedure and the common/potential risks were not fully explained; I say this having been at every one of her apts, and as a proceduralist myself (ie I am acutely aware of what "informed consent" for a medical procedure entails). Without getting into the details, suffice it to say the procedure was unnecessarily excruciatingly painful, and the surgeon not only essentially blamed my mother for the agony, he then minimized the unshared/unexpected complication by claiming that though he's had a few patients with this issue before, has never had to actually redo one.
Back to Dr. Newman: upon follow up with him, he 100% agreed with us that a second opinion was warranted given what he saw in office. Not only did it look like she would likely benefit from a "repair" of the prior procedure, she also had a cataract in that eye that was compounding her ongoing poor vision (which he could correct). To address the first issue, he had a referral sent over to a different retina specialist that same day. And the new surgeon was fabulous - his staff got mom in quickly for a consult, he and his PA were kind, clear and direct in the consult, and as hoped, he concurred that mom would benefit from an additional procedure to address what the original surgeon claimed was neither needed nor likely to make a difference if attempted.
What is beyond amazing is that Dr. Newman then went above and beyond AGAIN: knowing how painful and stressful the other surgery had been, and that then was of the essence in terms of the best chance for success, he not only took the time to verbally discuss mom's case with the new surgeon, they decided to do a JOINT procedure on a day THEY DON'T USUALLY DO SURGERY, just so mom could have both the repair and the cataract addressed in one sitting! I cannot stress enough how difficult it is to coordinate two physician's schedules, let alone when they aren't partners in the same practice. And to voluntarily arrange to come in early to do a surgery on a clinic day was absolutely incredible!
To top it all off, that 2-for-1 surgery went off without a hitch. Mom had no pain, no post-op complications, with clinical and subjective success for both the cataract removal AND the redo procedure. Both surgeons called mom the evening after surgery to check on her, and at each of the follow-ups, Dr. Newman has consistently been kind, thoughtful, and considerate of mom, always taking the time to explain things and never rushing us.
Dr. Newman has our family's loyalty. No business is 100% perfect, but I have zero doubt about Dr. Newman's heart for his patients, having seen it in action multiple times over the past year.

I had an eyebrow procedure to correct my peripheral vision. I am so dang excited about being able to see so much better and not having to strain my neck when changing lanes! She did such an excellent job with the scars as well. I am about a month out and you can barely see where she made the cut. Her staff in the office is so nice and I have to praise the surgical team as well. They were so very patient and kind in dealing with something I had anxiety over. I am team Dr. Sabah and Eugene Eye Care Associates all the way!
Dr.julia kuhn is absolutely % the best eye doctor in eugene.she is caring, smart,so very thorough. The whole staff is great.
Unfortunately, I have very little good to say about this office. I went to the Springfield office (Dr. Newman) with an eye emergency and was treated decently there and had little issue. I expect to have to pay more for an emergency; however, that is where the good ended. I had them give me my prescription so I could order a new pair of glasses when I saw Dr. Newman for the follow-up on the eye issue. When I received the glasses, I couldn't wear them, as they made me dizzy. I had an issue with the other eye at 2pm on a Friday, despite Dr. Newman being in the office, they sent me to an on-call Dr. across the street that charged me over $324 for a 15 minute appointment!!! I mentioned this to Dr. Newman, and the response was that he didn't know why they didn't schedule me with him. (Later I looked at my bills and this seemingly is the going rate for an appointment through both places - crazy). Despite this, I scheduled both of our eye exams for December with the Eugene office. When we arrived the office was very chaotic and we waited 45 minutes after our appointment times to be seen. I brought the new glasses with, the prescription was correct; however, Dr. Newman found that there was an issue with the prescription that was issued, so I then incurred the cost to send the glasses back (thankfully, the provider changed the lenses at no cost). Following the eye exams, I received a bill for $349.37 for my eye exam and $314.57 for my husband's exam. Mine required dilation, but they charged my husband $52 more as a new patient. At NO time did they mention that they were out-of-network and we were not covered for our VSP insurance. So, now I'm stuck with an additional almost $675 for annual eye exams, on top of the cost of these eye emergencies. I feel that this office and Dr. Newman took advantage of our situation and failed to inform us of the costs of a regular eye exam up front. This kind of office is the worst possible in not caring about the well-being of you as a person. My advice is find someone that who cares about their patients and isn't just lining their pockets at your expense. I certainly won't be returning. And, by the way, the office that charged me over $400 for a 15 minute appointment was Stirling Vision, across the street. You might want to also avoid them.
A little over a year ago, Dr. Judith Sabah did a surgery on my left eye that is blind and was crossed down to my nose. She did an absolutely excellent job. My eye is straight matches my good eye. She's a wonderful surgeon. I would highly recommend her and I'm sorry I'm writing such a late review. She did this in January of 2024 and if you need eye surgery, I highly recommend Judith Saba. She's wonderful before she came to town. You'd have to go to Portland to have your eye corrected. You no longer have to do that. She's a very busy lady, but she knows exactly what she's doing and she did do a fantastic job. I'm no longer self-conscious of my eye Cheryle Taylor Eugene. She gets excellent service. She has many follow ups to make sure everything is going well. The picture on the left is with my eye totally correct and the picture on the right which show how my eye would cross and a lot of times it would be even worse than that. I'm telling you she does fantastic work.
