Front desk staff is not very helpful. I came in to pick up sample lenses. The person at the check-in desk checked her computer, apparently couldn't find the answer and suggested that I call later. I had to repeatedly ask her to check if the samples were waiting. We had to ask her twice to please just check. She literally spun her chair 180 degrees, opened a cabinet and found them. At first she was unwilling to turn her chair around and just open the cabinet. This is poor customer care.
The optician was great. That is the only think that kept me from a 1-star review.
I walk using a walker so the first thing I notice is how heavy or lite the door is and McMinnville Vision Clinics door was lite so kudos for them for being handicap friendly. I walked through their door and into the building. Their shop is really small but there's enough room to sit down comfortably and so I did. I was greeted by the man who works on glasses and I said hi in return. I needed to have a screw tightened in my glasses frame. I took off my glasses and showed him where the screw was loose. He took my glasses in the back room and when he came back with them he said all done and he handed my glasses back to me. I asked how much do I owe you and he said nothing it was just a little screw tightening. I said thank you and left the building. If you find yourself in McMinnville Oregon and need your glasses worked on then stop off at McMinnville Vision Clinic, they'll do you right!
We weren't very thrilled with our family experience. My glasses weren't a good prescription, my right lense is blurry. Plus they were shaded so dark I had to keep using my old glasses. The doctor seemed impatient when switching the lenses and I had to tell him which one I could see better in, making me choose toooo quickly, my glasses are terrible. I wouldn't return. Plus my bill was very high!
I never had to pay so much for a cheaply framed glass prescription.
I will say the lady that did the pre- tests was wonderful. The front desk staff are nice.
My daughter can't use her glasses either, she had to go to "therapy" that seemed futile. Very time consuming. She said it didn't help her at all.
Very poor experience for our family. We didn't ever return to this clinic.
If I could give 0 stars, I would.
Long story short: Stay Away from this place to save yourself from trouble.
This place wasted me about $1000 cash out of my pocket, and I got nothing works from here besides headaches.
If you have a little time to read more, here is my story:
I moved to McMinnville back in 2020 September, and my contacts lens prescription was about to expire, so I was desperate looking for a doctor to renew it. I called around and found this place has the soonest appointment time available. Then, here starts my nightmare...
I walked into the office, handed my old prescription to the doctor, and said it only needed to be renewed with a tiny adjustment on the numbers. After completing the test, he handed me a prescription with entirely different numbers, which I did not believe could be mine. Then he told me to trust him because he is a doctor.
Since this doctor looked very experienced(old), I respected him and trusted him as he told me to, and I even ordered a pair of glasses.
However, after putting on the glasses, I got sick with headaches and vomiting. I called the doctor, and he told me to wear it longer for my eyes to adapt to this new prescription. I wore for another three days, still sick and couldn't go to work, called the doctor again, made an appointment again, and hoped he could fix the problem. He did not! He said nothing was wrong with the prescription and referred me to a retina doctor to check my retina. I am only 25 years old. I do not believe I have a retina problem, so I did not go. Then I switched to another optometrist, and everything worked perfectly.
What's more ridiculous? I got billed $300 three months later for my last visit, which I wished the doctor to fix my prescription, but he did nothing besides referring me to a retina doctor. I tried to argue this bill with the manager, but she was just a totally *nice girl* so I didn't wanna waste my time anymore I just paid it, that's all.
I'm not sure why the negative reviews here....but I am traveling 1 1/2 hrs just to see this doctor !
After many years of driving to McMinnville, I thought I should try someone local in our city; but the prescription was terrible for all of us, so we were back to driving a very long way, fir our annual exams.
Both my sons and I get the best service and glasses compared to any other offices we've tried.
Fraud alert--very suspicious that if they see that you have good insurance, be ready to return multiple times "not being charged."
If you choose to risk it, pay attention to how you feel in the exam room.
Zero stars. I have only taken time to do Google or Yelp reviews twice, and never negative! I've had plenty of negative experiences at businesses, but who hasn't? We do our best to leave others better than we found them, that's life.
After 3 returns and their optometrist requesting a 4th visit to "try a better prescription in different contacts" this clinic and its optometrist still fail to get the prescription/fit correct. This is ridiculous, bogus, and unprofessional (I won't go into detail about how this clinic's optometrist complained to my wife on her initial visit about masks, anti-vax, while attempting to make small talk about politics and asked her stance on current controversial political topics). We can shrug that off as all part of being a human being in this political climate.
What there is no excuse for is not getting the prescription right the first time, let alone the second time, and even more pitiful the third time. They wanted to make a 4th appointment because "Doctor is very particular about the fit and comfort of the contacts he gives his patients." How do I give zero stars? We called our insurance provider, our HR department, and are following up with a report to both. We have switched to McMinnville Eye Clinic who come highly recommended by close friends of ours.
Read Kristi C.'s review on Yelp from 11/13/2019--and here on Google reviews there's a review where the optometrist Gary Crowell slapped a 6-year-old's hand after they touched a piece of equipment during an exam.
Our annual insurance coverage for vision exams and hardware is 92% spent up just from this clinic and we've got nothing to show after 3 visits.
Mediocre. I took my nephew in for an appointment and the doctor lectured me on the type of eye Care my children received. My children we're not even there.
He was very rude about it and basically made me feel stupid.
Now if he would have made suggestion of something I might want to look into that would have been different.
My son sees a team of specialists and the opinion of 1 other doctor is not appreciated when it's not asked for.
Also the way he examed my nephew was beyond cinfusing. Not the typical one or two method. His communication was extremely poor.
Do not take your children here! I had the worst experience with Dr. Crowell. I took my 6 year old son in for his first eye exam. My son had trouble seeing through the lens. So he tried to adjust the phoropter to his face. He had barely touched the corner of the device. When Dr.crowell slapped his hand with force causing it to slam onto the chair, then proceeded to yell at him. This is the most unprofessional Doctor I have ever came across. I work at a Dental office, and none of the doctors within the practice would ever treat a child in such a manner. When I told the receptionist about the incident she responded with "we have signs that say don't touch the instrument". I told her I was aware of that, but he should have talked to him or given me the opportunity reiterate the importance of keeping our hands to ourselves. She then said "I'll make a note of it". They didn't seem apologetic at all. As we walked out my son was crying as he clung on to me, he was scared. Parents please be aware of your child at all times. Accompany them throughout all of their appointments. Just because they are medical professionals it should not justify their actions. I can't imagine what would happen if I wasn't there to defend my son. I'm sure this isn't the first incident. If you've had a similar experience with Dr. Crowell, please report it to the Oregon Board of Optometry.
