My wife, daughter and I went here for an eye exam and glasses recently for the first time. We were examined by Dr. Noel. She was fantastic. Pleasant, knowledgeable and accommodating. The receptionist (for lack of a better title) Connie I believe her name was, was also very pleasant and accommodating. The exam was quick and precise. We looked at glasses at the optical area, picked what we wanted and took our scripts to the counter. The staff behind the counter took very good care of us. Made sure we had what we needed for the glasses according to our lifestyles. Overall a very good experience. I will do a follow up once we receive the glasses.
When you make an appointment with the eye Doctor keep in mind that they do not communicate with the eye glass department. The eye Doctor will verify your coverage to be seen there but you have to check with the glasses department to verify your coverage.
I learned this after filling out the paperwork to be seen and the Dr was very kind when we opted to leave since my insurance didn't cover glasses.
Costco could improve by having the Dr and eye glass dept communicate with eachother. Or at the very least, when someone makes an appointment with the Dr suggest they confirm coverage with the glasses dept.
I love Costco, this store is great, I'm just disappointed that I wasted my time and the drs time with the lack of communication.
I had a disappointing experience at this eye doctor's office inside Costco. When my mom and I arrived, the receptionist was out, so the doctor handed us our paperwork. While filling it out, we were speaking to each other in Arabic. Instead of politely asking us to lower our voices, the doctor told us to take our paperwork outside because we, and I'm paraphrasing, 'clearly didn't know how to behave in a doctor's office.' This felt unnecessary and unprofessional, as a simple request to lower our volume would have sufficed.
I complied without argument, but the interaction left me feeling uncomfortable. I can't say for certain what motivated her response, but I do feel that we were treated unfairly. Regardless of the reason, I expect medical professionals to communicate with patients in a respectful and courteous manner. Based on this experience, I will not be returning.
Dr. Gordeuk was recommended to us by her Retinal specialist in Allentown. She was so patient and kind listening to my mother, guiding her through the exam and explaining to my mother how to adjust safely to the new Rx. Mom has MD and needs to be able to knit and drive to allow as much independence and joy for this 92 yo patient. Dr. G impressed me as a healthcare provider!! We'll be back!!
The Dr's office at this Costco is wonderful and we will continue to use her however the staff at the Costco Optical is something out of the For Eyes Commercial. The two are separately owned and operated. Costco Optical staff all have poor attitudes, poor customer service skills and they are slow, so very slow. It's painful. I even came back at a very slow evening on purpose and it did not matter. This was not always the case, the people used to be great here, so I am not sure what has changed.
I walked in during a weekday non-busy time with my insurance card and asked if they take my insurance. The person at the computer seemed all discombobulated and having trouble using the computer, spent a lot of time, finally said she'd take a copy of my card and call back. Waited over a week, no call-back, so I called using the card she gave me for Dr. Gordeuk. No answer, left voicemail, even though a weekday afternoon, and they never called back. This was a month ago. Not good for the Costco brand or reputation, I was looking forward to it but will have to find someone else.
It is unfortunate I have to leave a one star review. I've had such great experiences at other Costco vision locations.
However, this location has been terrible. Usually a very long wait to speak with a representative. I ordered glasses and when I picked them up, I could tell immediately something wasn't right with the lenses. The gentleman who was helping me insisted they were fine and I just needed to get used to them. I've been wearing glasses for 50 years. It wasn't a matter of getting used to them, they were defective.
Against my better judgement, I left and drove home. I live an hour away.
By the time I got home I had a headache. I went back the very next day and the same gentleman assisted me. He was quite rude and insisted nothing was wrong with the glasses. He adjusted some things. After trying to deal with him for over a half hour, I left .
My next step was to speak to the manager. A few more things happened, but in the end I returned the glasses and went somewhere else. Imagine how relieved I was when the other optical store made my lenses and glasses perfect the first time and had excellent customer service.
I do not recommend this location at all!
The doctor was awesome, friendly and thorough. The people who helped me pick.out my glasses were equally awesome. My family now shops eyewear at Costco because of the incredible value and service. The savings on eyeglasses alone justify the cost of the membership.
