Preface: I have a recurring eye condition that I will unfortunately have for the rest of my life. From my own observations, it's relatively rare, as I've never met somebody else with it. Furthermore, doctors seem to be fascinated when it visually manifests itself. In one instance, I volunteered to have pictures taken as a future resource for new doctors at one hospital I was visiting at the time. Review: I have always taken the same medicine for my condition. For now, there's only one brand that currently exists on the market for this medicine; I'm not sure where I'd be without it. I visited the doctor here (Dr. Mark, I believe) to get a prescription for this medicine (and another less helpful one). Dr. Mark mentioned that he was surprised that I had always taken this. "Why do you take this? It doesn't make sense to me." (As the medicine is for when you have the condition in your eye, and for me, it's technically not IN the eye itself, but I'm always at risk for it) "Well, I'm not quite sure about the method of action with this drug, but all I know is that my eye hurts REALLY bad, and when I take these drops, it makes my eye stop hurting." This answer did not satisfy him. Keep in mind that I've been using this medicine for the past 5 years. This medicine is not a controlled substance, a drug of abuse, nor does it promote the rise of antibiotic resistant bacteria (as it's not an antibiotic). If my condition were to ever get in my eye, it could possibly damage my vision. There's a lot more pros than there are cons, so I was confused why he felt like this medicine was unacceptable for me to use. In the end, he gave me a prescription for a much less effective medicine (as it has a very very narrow window where it is helpful). I stopped by a "minute clinic" later and was paired with a much more understanding doctor who was able to get me the medicine I desperately needed. Needless to say, I will not be returning here.
