Though my experience with all support staff, Dr. Alunni, who performed my cataract surgery and Dr. Gaster, who completed all but one of my post-op visits, was positive, my experience with the physician who the practice is named after, was negative enough to lower a 4-5 star review to a 2.
I've worked in healthcare for 30+ years and have had countless interactions with health professionals, both as colleagues and as providers, and have never experienced anyone as condescending or unempathetic as the Dr. Chang. Perhaps because he has, "performed well over 20,000 cataract surgeries", he has become desensitized to the concerns of his patients and how their quality of life is negatively impacted by visual deficits, as insignificant as he may consider them.
Dr. Chang seems oblivious to the fact that people experience/interpret visual deficits differently, as we rely on our vision in different ways, predicated on the activities we engage in. Some may need to see well enough to function in an office, walk around the neighborhood or read a book, while others need it for higher level activities, where depth perception is critical, like mountain biking, skiing, etc.
I had experienced improved visual acuity, initially, after surgery but that was followed by an, what Dr. Chang considered, insignificant decline, in subsequent weeks. After performing a thorough exam, which is the only positive thing I can say about my experience with him, and not having a concrete answer as to why there was a decline, his response was basically, "well, it's better than it was before the surgery"!
I feel confident that if Dr. Chang underwent a surgery and experienced a setback, he would not be content if the surgeon provided a noncommittal response in regard to the etiology of the setback or was nonchalant about the setback being permanent.
The other experience that was less than optimal had to do with a prescription refill. Their outgoing message instructs patients on what information to provide, not to call back and that they will do their best to contact you within 24 hrs. I left a message regarding the need for a refill of my drops that I needed to apply for 5 additional days. After 24 hrs, I still hadn't heard from a representative. I finally left a message stating that since it took so long to get back to me, it must not be important to continue the drops. It's been 2 days and I've not heard from them.
If you're ok with an assembly line mentality, antiquated communicative technology and the sense that profit is the primary concern, then this is the place for you! Otherwise, I recommend looking elsewhere for your eye care.
This was my first visit and the office staff and Dr Gaster were great! Unfortunately, when I tried pick out my new glasses, the lady trying to help was not very helpful and made the situation very confusing and complicated explaining the difference with progressive lenses. I would hope she would be the expert and not make things so difficult. I left frustrated and didn't purchase new glasses.
The front desk staff is so disrespectful and rude. The practice could be great if you'd get your staff in line. The physician is amazing and the nurses will take good care of you, but good luck scheduling appointments or getting in the door. I hope someone has a chat with that women with the box braids, she truly needs a new job or attitude check.
Not sure how this practice is getting high reviews. Just went as a new patient and sat for over an hour in the waiting room. Nothing. Never called me back, and when I went to ask where I was in line, the staff was rude. Wasted my time and still got nothing done. I had to leave. Didn't even offer to reschedule. Avoid this place unless you like to be frustrated AND get no care.
I've been waiting a month for them to get back to me for a contacts prescription. They sent me a bill that I'm not paying until i get my contacts prescription. You picked the wrong one. the docs i saw were amazing but i am never going back here. i don't put up with this garbage
I was seen mid-June 2025 because my glasses were broken, and I needed to replace them. My appointment went well, and I ordered glasses prior to leaving. They told me that because I was not ordering a color they kept stocked, it would take 3-4 weeks before I got them. I gave them my address and paid for shipping at this time.
6 weeks later (end of July), I called, and they informed me that the frames were on backorder, but they would be ready in one week. I confirmed my address again at this time, and requested shipping information be sent to my email. When I received the shipping information, my address had been entered incorrectly, forcing me to coordinate with UPS to get my glasses. I called the office to notify them of this, and they told me that the address was intentionally altered, although they couldn't explain why.
My glasses finally arrived, and they were not the frames I ordered. They were the wrong color--in fact, they were a color that the office stocks. I called, and the woman in the optical department tried to convince me that I was misremembering what I asked for--despite the fact that I paid extra for this color. She told me they would reorder my glasses and send them to me with a shipping label to send back the incorrect pair.
We are now 7 weeks past that conversation, and when I called to ask for an update, one could not be provided.
I consider myself easygoing, but it has been 3 months since my appointment, and I still do not have glasses. The ones the sent me are sitting in a drawer unused in case the office deigns to fix their mistake. All in all, I do not recommend this office. There has been no proactive communication, and they do not seem motivated to make amend for their own mistakes.
I had Cataract surgery on both eyes (a week apart). I was nervous at first not knowing what to expect. Dr. Alunni did an amazing job! The surgery went great and my vision in each eye is outstanding! Don't hesitate if cataract surgery is needed. It's certainly worth it!
I've never had such a frustrating experience with an office before. I've been calling for days and no one ever picks up. The one time someone did answer, they hung up on me before I could even explain why I was calling. I even left a voicemail and my call was never returned. If you need an eye appointment, save yourself the stress and go somewhere that actually respects people's time and answers the phone.
