Good experience. Referred by the ER for symptoms of detachment. Dr Jeffrey Karlik seemed confident and competent. He explained things well. He's high energy and speaks quickly so I had to ask a couple times. He was patient and his response was clear. I'm comfortable going back for the follow ups.
He did my cataract surgery with normal lens and my vision returned to normal with no need for glasses it was 4 yrs ago still to this day no glasses!
Very knowledgable and caring physicians. I work in health care, and I completely disagree with the complaints. Dr. Karlik is on the quiet side, but he is absolutely NOT rude. He listened to my concerns and gave me accurate medical advice and treatment plan. The receptionist is extremely nice, she fit me in the schedule the same day I called. We chatted for a little while and I felt she was very friendly. Her personality balances the doctors. Don't go here if you're looking for a Patch Adams personality, but if you want knowledgeable, experienced, and attentive care, this is the place for you. I'm very happy with the prompt care I received. I highly recommend North Hills Eye Associates!
Recently I received cataract surgery from Dr. Jeffrey S. Karlik. Before the surgery the vision in my left eye was near perfect. After the surgery I became nearsighted. Objects became very blurry within 15 feet. Also, a blood vessel was broken in my left eye. Upon office visits after the surgery I was lied to by Dr. Karlik that my vision was bad beforehand. A total falsehood. I now have to wear corrective eyewear because of his botched surgery. I was also advised by an employee of the Pgh. V.A. that a relative visited Karliks office for an eye checkup and was told that they had cataracts. After seeking a second opinion it was determined that their diagnosis was faulty. The patient did not have cataracts. Please beware of North Hills Eye Associates Karlik Ophthalmology. I would like to hear from you if you also have had any such terrible experiences
I give the practice five stars. Very professional team. Been going there for years, recently had cataract surgery. I couldn't be happier with their care,
Would give it less if possible. Front desk barely acknowledged me, asked no questions at all. First part of the eye exam was done, again doctor asked no questions. My contact lenses were still in. Upon realizing this, the doctor was visibly frustrated, placed a lens container and saline solution on a table, said 'take the lenses out and go back to the first room.' All right.
Performed the exam a second time. Back in the second room, asks me my birth date and realizes the chart he has is for my mother, another patient with the same name. OK. Tries to find my chart and there is none! At least 15 years of coming to this office and there is NO RECORD of me at all.
Never had a problem with the previous doctor, Dr. Kobaly. The new owners of the practice lost all my eye exam records and denied I had ever been there. And to note, never did see anyone washing hands or sterilizing equipment after use.
Will not be back here and certainly do not recommend.
Positive first - front desk staff was nice enough. The optometrist who I saw was friendly and listened to my situation and asked follow up questions.
Questionable, but unsure - I realized after leaving (and before reading any of these reviews) that I didn't notice any hand washing. BUT I also do not remember seeing a sink in the room, so fingers crossed there was one outside of the room and he washed his hands prior to touching my eye lids. (Wexford location). Very easy to get an appt, not sure if that's good (lots of availability?) or bad (nobody wants to come here?).
Negative - I specifically called them because I came across their website, the karliks are ophthalmologists, and they had a write up about styes/chalazia. I had already seen my optometrist about a stye problem, had already seen my primary about my stye problem, I needed an ophthalmologist who could do an incision/lance procedure on a chalazion that hasn't gone away for months. I explained ALL of this to the staff when I called. The person the scheduled me with was an optometrist... cannot perform these procedures.
They had to schedule me another appt with one of the Karliks for two days later. The next day I got a call and message saying they had to cancel my appt because Karlik had a "family emergency". Maybe he did, maybe he didn't. I Didn't call back because I was annoyed about the first appointment and I had a bad gut feeling (take that for what it is) about the place. Then I went online and saw the other reviews and really didn't have a good feeling about going back.
It continues... when I made the original appointment, I asked about accepting my medical insurance since this would be a medical procedure instead of vision. They said they accepted it. Just got a bill from them, my insurance didn't cover anything because they billed it as an optometrist visit which is covered by vision insurance, not medical.
The incompetence or lack of listening or whatever happened here is not acceptable to me. I was as clear as somebody could be about my situation and what I needed.
Some may have a great experience with them, this is just mine.
Have been going here for years. Never had an issue until my past appointment. Dr. Chamberlain told me that as long as I got glasses and contacts before January 1, my insurance would cover them both. At my appointment I was told I did not have a copay, and I got my glasses in the office. This week I received a bill in the mail so I called the office to question it. The extremely rude girl that answered the phone made it seem that I was lying when I said I was told both glasses and contacts would be covered. She said "I know for a fact that we would never tell anyone this". Why would I lie that someone said this? Rude, unprofessional, and you lost another customer. Will not be coming back and I regret ever giving my business. On top of all of this the Karlik doctors are rude and have 0 personality. Don't waste your time, find another eye doctor.
