Lappen Eye Care (South Hills)

Blonde receptionist needs a lesson in social skills and to learn how to interact with tiny kids. This was our first time here and I don't think we'll be returning to this location again after the experience we had this week. I brought my boys here for their yearly eye exams. Both were excited and rambunctious upon entering the office. however I did reel them in; as I always do. They were both very intrigued by the sparkley ballon weights and little gnome display for 4th of July. However, you would think my one son threw glass across the office the way this woman shouted from the front desk when he picked up the gnome doll. For context, the doll was made out of foam. I understand it's a display and I was redirecting him and explaining it was not a toy, before she shouted over me, attempting to correct him. It's possible that she's experienced those who don't redirect their toddlers and felt defensive over the display, but it just seemed like a completely inappropriate reaction to a 3y/o, curious child. She did this more than once to them and was mumbling things to her coworker while we sat there . Both of my kids covered their ears more than once during her interactions with them. which immediately should indicate to an adult that a child is frightened , overstimulated etc. The younger receptionist was very polite, professional and treated us with respect. She even brought them paper to draw on. I appreciated this greatly, as both my kids and myself were taken off guard by how we were treated initially and I think if they were not passed due for the eye exam, due to our last eye doc not accepting our insurance anymore and everywhere having a long waitlist, I would have just left, immediately. I also work with the public for a living. I know it's not easy. I know some parents will let their kids run rampant and ignore them, but that was not the case.

Went for my yearly type 2 diabetes eye checkup. Ms Lappen found a horseshoe tear in my retina and within minutes she had an appointment with Retina Vitreous C onsultants for me for eye surgery. Had Lazer surgery which closed the retina tear and saved my eyesight!!!! THANK YOU LAPPEN FOR BEING THOROUGH AND TAKING SUCH GOOD CARE OF THIS 72 YEAR OLD!!!!

I have brought my children here for their eye exams for the past two years. They are patient and gentle with my younger kids, which, many places are not welcoming for kids. They also are considerate of the cost of glasses and will work with you and within the insurance restrictions and limitations.

I'm not one to leave a bad review but todays visit left me feeling kinda gross! I was a new patient, scheduled my appointment over the phone, I told them my preferred name and told them I didn't have all of my insurance info handy, but the woman I spoke to over the phone was so kind and patient, she told me to come in and that we'd figure it out when I arrived. Come time of my appointment, the receptionist was very short with me from the beginning. I figured they might both be stressed because it was busy. She seemed very upset that I didn't have the info necessary even though I offered to call my insurance and retrieve the info myself (it's a new plan which is why I don't already know my exact coverage). She also interrupted me when I explained to her that all my doctors refer to me by my preferred name only and told me that she would use my government name. Again, I know this is necessary for insurance and billing purposes but I've never had issues with docs calling me by my preferred name and pronouns. Basically, I did what I could to accommodate but by the end of the appt, the receptionist could tell I was visibly frustrated and suddenly her whole demeanor changed and suddenly she was nice to me after being rude and short the entire time I was in the waiting area. I accept responsibility for not having the correct info handy, I was even willing to reschedule the appt. She told me that the last 4 digits of my SSN weren't working before she realized she was looking at my phone number lol. I understand mistakes happen, I work in customer service and deal with people all day everyday. Maybe she was just having a rough start to the week. Regardless, I don't appreciate how she spoke to me, called me the wrong name and told me it was my government name (like I don't know that already), and was impatient with me the whole time I was there. She was upset when my insurance reps couldn't help me over the phone and said "it's been half an hour we need to get you out of here". She could have at least just told me to come back when I had the right info instead of wasting both our time. I'm sure the Doctor at this practice is very kind. I know everyone is just trying to do their jobs but it's important that customer service reps and receptionists undergo sensitivity training with stuff like this. Maybe don't come here if you're trans!

My first time here. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The doctor is very thorough and excellent! I highly recommend this eye doctor. Very easy to park in the big parking lot behind business. It's a dollar an hour to park. A++

Been quite some time since I had been to an eye doctor..the staff was so kind and patient with me the optometrist was so kind.. I recommend this establishment

Love this office. Seriously they do it all right. Excellent doctors that have excellent staff. Plus they are always friendly and helpful.

SCAM. Check your insurance benefits, they charged my mother by over TWICE what she should have paid. Should be ashamed of themselves
