A Truly Outstanding Experience -- Compassionate, Prompt, and Professional Care
I've been seeing my regular eye doctor for over 23 years, and I absolutely adore her. She knows my health history inside and out and has always provided exceptional care. The only downside is that her office is nearly an hour from my home. Normally, I don't mind the drive since I only see her twice a year, but recently I found myself in a tough situation.
Recently, just 48 hours before I was scheduled to leave town, I developed an issue with one of my eyes. I did not have enough time to make the long drive to my regular doctor, but I knew -- given my health history -- that I needed to be seen quickly. I was frantically calling around, trying to find a local provider who would see me on short notice and work with my major medical insurance as well.
From the moment I called Pittsburgh Optical, North Hills location, I felt at ease. The entire team was incredibly kind, helpful, and accommodating. They scheduled me promptly, handled my insurance concerns, seamlessly, and made me feel genuinely cared for.
Dr. Huet was absolutely phenomenal! Not only did she examine the immediate issue, but she also provided me with some medication samples to help manage another ongoing condition -- just to make sure I'd be comfortable while traveling. She certainly went above and beyond what I expected, and I truly appreciate her thoughtfulness and clinical expertise.
Even after I mentioned that I'm loyal to my regular eye doctor, she reassured me that if I ever experience another urgent eye issue in the future, I should call her directly and she will ensure that I get seen by the appropriate specialist right away.
I cannot say enough, good things about Pittsburgh Optical. From the front desk to the office manager to the exam room, everyone was professional, compassionate, and patient focused. I feel incredibly grateful to have found such a supportive and responsive team right in my local area. Thank you for everything!
I am not a patient of this practice, but I wanted to share that the staff were extremely helpful and professional when I called in a favor. I was visiting family in the North Hills and forgot to bring my contact lenses. They were able to give me a couple sample lenses to get me through. Thanks to the kind staff here!
I cannot recommend Pittsburgh Optical enough! From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with warmth and professionalism. Their customer service is second to none--every staff member went above and beyond to make sure I felt comfortable and cared for throughout my visit.
The eye exam was thorough, and Dr. Huet took the time to explain every detail of the process. I never felt rushed or like just another customer. When it came to selecting frames, the team provided excellent guidance, helping me find a pair that perfectly suited my face and style.
What really stood out to me was their attention to detail and genuine care. They answered all my questions, handled everything with a smile, and even followed up after my appointment to ensure I was satisfied with my new glasses. Michele, the manager, always makes you feel like family!

Front desk staff was very friendly and welcoming, Dr. Janice Huet was wonderful and listened to all of my concerns fully. She explained the "why" behind changing my prescription in the way that she did. She even gave me suggestions for other specialists to help me monitor a previous eye injury that I sustained. No other optometrist has been so attentive to my concerns. Highly recommend her!!!
Always great service. The doctors are great. You can get in and out. Glasses are done fast. Great glasses selection. I'll be back again next year.
My husband and I have been clients of this practice and eye doctor for over 15 years. We will never go back again. The staff is terrible. I've purchased expensive glasses and when they came damaged from the company, instead of the staff contacting the company and making them make a new pair, they filed a warranty claim. Then when I damaged them myself, the warranty had already been used. Another time I purchased glasses and the lenses were far too strong and making me sick, the girl was rude, there were no refunds, and I would have to repurchase new glasses and pay for another exam. I had just had an exam, thus the new glasses. So that was another fight. After they moved to their new location, it was one problem after another and the staff was unapologetic and confrontational. The final straw was I needed stronger glasses. I had a new exam and picked new frames. The manager was so nice and gave me discounts for previous issues. But then when I went to pick the glasses up, I was handed glasses, no case, and a plastic bag with lenses in them. I asked what the random lenses were for and they claimed I used my old frames and those were my old lenses. I didn't! They were supposed to be new frames. I picked them out and the same manager helped me. I left and then became concerned that maybe I had someone else's glasses. I drove through a snowstorm and smoked my tires trying to get in to their unplowed parking lot only to have the manager insist the frames were my old ones and she doesn't make mistakes. I offered to go home and get all the glasses that I ever bought from them and she doubled down that she was right and I was wrong. When I sat there waiting for the glasses to be adjusted, the manager went in the back and talked about me to another staff member within an ear shot of me. She did that twice! When I left I again tried to resolve the confusion and she still refused to admit she may be wrong, wouldn't even look at me, and was very nasty. I apologized for causing trouble since both staff members became so confrontational and then said thank you and have a good night. The manager said nothing. I ended up crying the drive home. My husband called to cancel his appointment and said he was doing so because I was just there and their staff left me in tears. The person on the phone responded "okay" and hung up. They couldn't care less. *** they have no idea what they are doing there, are rude and there is always a problem. Terrible customer service. *** I'm sure they are happy to see us go and we feel the same.
I've went to this office before getting lasik and after getting lasik in 2020 I continued to go here. I didn't know the difference between all these eye doctors but thought I could still count on them. I immediately got dry eyes after lasik and all Dr Huet would tell me is "your cornea looks great! Just keep using over the counter eyedrops." Of course these eye drops would never help and I would tell her that but she would just give me the same advice. Right then and there I should've been my own advocate and went to someone more professional.
3 1/2 years after lasik my eyes are barely producing tears and I have a condition called MGD. Since Jan. 2025 until today (June 14th 2025) I have spent $20,000 trying to get my life back. Can I completely blame Huet? Ofcourse not. But I trusted her and she totally just mislead me and wasted my time. She could've referred me to someone who understood my situation more but she chose not to. Be your own advocate and don't trust these doctors.
Great place to have your eyes checked & if needed to get glasses. The staff are extremely friendly & helpful. Dr. Huet is very caring & explains everything. Michelle keeps this office & staff well in-check in a warm & friendly manner!
