Dr. Kammer was the absolute BEST! I definitely miss him! I went to Dr. Baird for the same eye exam that I got from Dr. Kammer. Nothing about my insurance had changed. Nothing about the exam I got had changed, except the provider. I contacted my insurance and they said my exam was covered. After my exam, I received a bill for $503 for a preventative exam that had always been covered fully by insurance. An exam that I called to ensure was still covered, before I came in for my visit. It was covered. It seems Vanderbilt billing, coded the exam the same as always, but with one exception. They changed the primary reason code to routine eye exam when it was clearly a medical eye exam. This coding error caused both my vision and medical insurances to deny the claim. I spoke to the billing office for over a year. They refused to rectify the coding issue. They consistently told me that it had been coded correctly. However, after several three-way calls with Vanderbilt billing and my insurance, nobody budged and nothing ever happened to help me! I'm the patient and I was forced to be the in the middle of stalemate between the insurance and the provider. Vanderbilt billing did agree to reduce my bill from $503 to $277. However, that amount for a preventative service that should have been fully covered and always had been under, Dr. Kammer is so unfair. It is the complete opposite of patient advocacy and care. Now, I'm getting tons of reminders to a pay a bill that I never should have received. A bill from a place that didn't even value a return patient enough to simply adjust one billing code over the span of a year. This may not mean much to Vanderbilt Eye Institute billing office, but it means a lot to me.

Had an initial consult and was seen by 2 doctors at once. They were both extremely thorough in their exams. They took time to explain what they were looking for, what they saw, and next steps. I highly recommend and will be going back for my continued treatment.

I waited 2 and half hours to be seen for an issue with my eyelid. I was given no information about why the wait was so long, and no apology at all. When I finally saw the doctor, her exam was just cursory - lasted maybe 10 minutes, and I felt I was being gas-lighted about my very real issue. In fact, I was referred to her by the optometrist in the same practice! A few months earlier, when I went to this practice for my annual eye exam for my contact lens prescription, the tech probably spent 10 minutes checking my vision, and then the optometrist spent 5 minutes tops, barely even looking at my eyes! I won't be going back to this practice.

Vandy Eye Institute has been my primary ophthalmologist after a concern was raised by my optician from another clinic. The staff here (front desk, med techs, and doctors) have always been polite, efficient, and easy to talk through concerns. Scheduling is honestly so streamlined: you can do so in person or make subsequent changes online (with phone follow-up). Many of the past reviews are true: the wait time is pretty lengthy, but I view this more as a systemic issue than anything else. Everyone here is focused on discussing patient charts and ensuring overall consistency. I would bring snacks and a water bottle as well as reading material. My one other suggestion is simply for the office to turn on the TV's. The walls are thin, and professional voices are quite audible. If I could hear about others' medical history and my own from the waiting area, I'm sure others could as well. I think staff discussion of patients (no matter their opinion or context) is totally warranted, but it may be awkward for other patients to hear. Plenty of parking in a private lot with elevator and stair access to the office. I mainly recommend this for individuals with more serious eye issues. If you're just getting an eye exam, perhaps choose another location without the hefty wait time.

Stephanie Jian thank you for ur service! You were amazing I just want that to be clear. You were so good to us and kind the whole time like a professional should be. Otherwise, this is the worst place!! I've gone here for years with my children and the place has changed drastically, the floor is different first of all and it's hot all the time in there! They never use air or heat unless for the employees bcuz they're RUDE at the front desk I spoke to a lady at the front desk today and she just absolutely refused to give me my child's Dr note for school in the beginning she wanted me to wait after where as I told her the last time my son got no note cuz everyone dipped out the office and it was closed by the time they let us leave from our appointment (what a joke!) The doctor I saw was sweet!! She was so good with my children I only had one complaint about her she wanted to switch my daughters Bifocals when they have been helping her see further away better and screens at school. This place overall is a joke!! They make you wait forever my other children see a new eye Dr and they do nothing like this at Nashville they are amazing!! They talk to you and they take care of what needs to be when you ask and they make sure their patients are satisfied before leaving instead of getting rude & smarta** with someone just because they wanna hire ppl that don't even wanna be in the work place to begin with! Do better or just shut it down at this point y'all are complete joke! And this is saying a lot coming from someone like me since I'm usually always quiet but I refuse to shut up any longer when something needs to be done! You don't talk to ppl the way you guys do! All I know is if you wanna save yourself time & trouble you'll go anywhere else I recommend Vanderbilt Eye Institution that one is so much better! So respectfully, kind, & caring! They always take care of our notes at the beginning & they always help if we have a problem or question which I'll say I don't believe I've had one ever but once going here and it was never a major issue. Vanderbilt thank you!! Franklin, yall should do better!! I'm leaving my two cents in hopes nobody else goes through this. Your reviews seem crappy for a reason 2.8 stars isn't good at all that's sad! Smh. I'm switching my other children to Vanderbilt with the rest of my kiddos after this visit. If it doesn't happen it's because yall are trying to pressure ppl into staying with yall because I tried this before and yall tried saying something about you couldn't due to age but lied because I have two kids the same age and you saw one and told me you couldn't see the others how is even possible?! Lies!! More and more reasons why I do not like this place since it has changed!

I go here to see a specialist about a specific condition. This time was like no other. I spent an hour of being ping-ponged between two techs and waiting rooms. The 2nd tech looked at my eyes. When I finally saw the actual Dr., he never examined my eyes. After an hour of playing musical chairs with the techs, I waited 40 additional minutes to see the doctor who called me back, only to sit down and say everything looked stable without examining my eyes himself - not one look. I saw the Dr. for 60 seconds (10 of those were me sitting down and the last 10 were me looking at him like he was crazy for giving me his verdict on the "check-up" without taking a look himself. This appointment was important (at least to me) to make sure there is no disease progression. He just sat down and made an important judgment call from a tech's exam. Why am I going here and paying to see a specialist, but not being examined by an actual doctor?! This was a complete waste of my time and money. I'm sure they'll charge me like they did their job. I have been going to Vanderbilt eye for over 40 years, so I'm used to the wait and shuffle. You dealt with it, because the doctors used to be some of the best (and cared). What I'm NOT used to is wasting my time and money because the actual doctor couldn't be bothered to examine my eyes. Avoid this place. I'm looking elsewhere now. I miss Dr. O'Day and Dr. Felch. They do not have any doctors that can come close to filling their shoes. ------------- UPDATE: Called the number given in the spiel below and spoke to someone who said she would look into it. The doctor claimed HE examined my eyes, which is untrue. Him stating that seemed to be all they needed. Seriously? Making a mistake and being lax one time is one thing but lying about medical care is on a whole different level and considered unethical medical practice in the state of TN. Apparently, Vanderbilt puts as little effort into investigating claims as possible, if at all, and should be held accountable. It says a LOT about "patient care" when they are ready to call someone a liar and be done after 40 years of.being a patient without any real investigation into the matter. Their nveatigation was.... Vanderbilt; "Did you do this"? Doctor: "No." Vanderbilt: "Ok" My advice would be to avoid them. I'll be contacting the state of TN since Vanderbilt can't seem to conduct an actual investigation themselves and this went from a mistake to telling lies about the care that was/was not provided.

I've had annual appointments with Dr. Kim at the Vanderbilt Eye Institue at Frankin for a number of years and had nothing but positive experiences with the doctor and each and every staff member along the way. We are fortunate to have access to such good eye care and would hate to see some of the negative reviews scare potential patients' off.

If I could give minus stars to this office I would give them -5 stars. I called last year (2024) to scheduled an appointment for my 2 years old with Dr. David Wallace and there was a wait of 4 months to see him so they scheduled the appointment for January 2025. However, I received a call in January that it needed to be rescheduled to February (5 months waiting for the appointment). Now, they called me to reschedule the appointment AGAIN to March (6 months waiting). So UNPROFESSIONAL and DISRESPECTFUL to the patients from this doctor and office. So disappointing.
