I do not recommend this ophthalmologist.
She entered the exam room without a greeting and immediately commented on my 1.5-year-old by saying, "Wow, you have a big head," then proceeded to say the same about my husband and me. This was inappropriate and unprofessional. She is not my daughter's pediatrician, who has no concerns about her head circumference that is measured at every well visit!
Based on this alone, she discussed referrals to neurology and genetics, stating that because my other children do not have a lazy eye, my daughter should see a genetics specialist. She also said it "excited" her that she could perform surgery on my 1.5-year-old, which was extremely unsettling.
She commented that based on my daughter's "looks," she did not appear to have any underlying disabilities, implying she did not look "off" or "weird."
Throughout the visit, she was texting on her phone.
Her bedside manner was terrible. I will not be returning and will be seeking care from a more professional and respectful provider.

The best of the best. We adore Dr Susannah Longmuir. We were referred to her when we first noticed our three year old daughter's strabismus and Vandy had too long of a wait time. She is so warm, extremely knowledgeable and thorough. We tried patching and glasses first for several months but ultimately agreed with surgery. Our daughter is around four weeks post op and everything looks great. As anxious as we were to do the procedure, Dr Longmuir set our minds at ease and everything went swimmingly. We could not recommend her more! We are so grateful to be in her care.

Dr. Longmuir is the best doctor in Tennessee, maybe in the whole country, even. Definitely the best doctor I've ever known. She is caring, communicative, really takes the time to build a relationship with her patients. She did surgery on my daughter's eyes that has been majorly successful. The optician down the road told me she's "brilliant," and he is absolutely right. I, hands down, recommend Dr. Longmuir for all your ophthalmology needs. Don't bother going anywhere else.

I had a very negative experience with Dr. Longmuir. I had some questions about the copay--very normal questions about whether or not I could use my HSA account to pay for it. The receptionist had Dr Longmuir come out to speak with me, and she berated me for even asking the questions I was asking. Then lectured me on how she is an ophthalmologist and not an optometrist, and then refused to see my 2 year old daughter for her appointment, until I started crying and I think she realized how immature she was behaving. It was the most unprofessional doctor's appointment I have ever experienced and it was for my 2 year old daughter. Please seek other care for your child's eyes and do not go here.

I am so grateful we picked Dr Longmuir when she popped up on Google! She performed an eye muscle correction surgery on my 5 year old daughter, after my daughter had patched for years. This sweet, likeable doc is so good at what she does!!! I couldn't be happier and my daughter is over the moon happy with how much better her eyes work.

My 8 year old son has had a lazy eye and extreme far sightedness since he was 2. We have been to several eye doctors, including an ophthalmologist at Vanderbilt Eye Center (who was very cold, very short, and didn't give us the information we needed) over the years. We were recently referred to Dr. Longmuir for her opinion on a surgical option for my son. We had done years of patching and glasses. She spent over an hour with us and explained every single detail and every option available. She left no question unanswered. In addition to her in depth detail regarding the medical diagnosis; she was so personable. We ultimately decided to move toward surgery. The surgical procedure was a success and Dr. Longmuir showed extreme care throughout the entire process. She is an ace!!! Best medical experience I've ever had and I'm thankful she was the one to take care of my son. Highly recommend her!
